Same here, pretty much clear liquids the day before. Try not having caffeine the day before if you can. I was not allowed caffeine at all until 3 weeks after surgery. And I didn't miss it! Good luck to you!

BMI 31 - VSG? Would love to hear experiences of similar...
CanyonBaby replied to Tubbs216's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Since you are at the lower end of the scale, may I suggest before you jump in, try living the VSG lifestyle? Since you have family that live it daily, it should be easy to do what they are doing. It might give you what you need to make your decision. Remember, it is irreversible. Good luck to you! -
Congrats on the weight loss and on the opportunity to see the doc. tomorrow! Are your clothes so big they are falling off, then? If so, there are a lot of after-Christmas outerwear sales going on now, half-price or less. Even if you're not at goal yet, it might make you feel better to have something that fits better. This is not an easy thing we have done, people! I am so proud of all of you for doing so well! Reward yourselves...find a way (doesn't even have to cost money) to remind yourselves you've done a fabulous thing! Well done!

For the people actively Losing weight that track food...
CanyonBaby replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know, today I had a very, very softly scrambled egg, which actually was a double yolk egg, and it was all I could do to get through 1/2 of it. I guess I need to buy small size eggs! On Jan. 7th I get to have soft foods, and I am insisting we go to a restaurant. That meal should last me, say 7-8 days?!!!!! -

As far as losing more while having more calories, I wonder if the body then has more to burn (since we put so little in to begin with) as opposed to having too little to burn (perhaps the body goes into self-preservation, thus hoards the calories to prevent it from losing too much). IT'S ALL SCIENCE TO ME....! And as far as the half and half plate thing, NUT suggested to eat the Protein as the priority, but try to eat it all. My program is very slow to advance; I had my surgery on Dec. 3rd, and I won't be on regular food until Jan. 27th. I guess they want to make sure we heal perfectly. The only thing I have with that is it seems my sleeve isn't stretching or enlarging, but staying as it was created. All my portions stay under 2 ounces. Is this unusual to any of you? -

I am learning so much from you guys...thank you! Have you tried the 1/2 Protein - 1/2 carb on your plate trick? I am still on pureed, so I am absorbing all you guys are saying. My workbook tells me to do the half and half thing, and that starts on the soft food stage (which for me starts Jan. 7). Good luck to you! -
OK. So you all know how cold we get after this surgery, and I am no exception. In fact, last night I could not for the life of me, get warm. No amount of sweaters, p.j.s, socks...were going to do the job. I went to bed cold, but my fleecy sheets were great and got me all toasty warm. This morning I was all bundled in my bed when my puppies decided it was time to get up. I peeked my nose out of the covers, an arm soon followed. Then I thought to myself, "man, I can't still be cold, what's wrong with me, am I getting sick, or what?" I got out of bed and threw on a fleece top, heavy wool sweater, heavy pants, slippers that go up to my knees practically, and then donned mittens and threw a throw around me. "Gosh, I must really be getting sick. Seriously, it can't be this cold in here." I go to check the thermostat of the furnace, and it is blank. Oh No! Oh Yeah - it's not me!!! It's the furnace! Oh NO! I call the gas company and there isn't an outage. So what is wrong? is it me? Am I sick? I go to check the thermometer and it says 47degrees. Oh No, Oh Yeah!!!It's NOT me!!! It's the furnace! Oh NO!! What do I do? I call the furnace man, who tells me to check the batteries on the thermostat, turns out they were dead, and all I needed to do was install new ones. Note to self and anyone else...always check the furnace thermostat, it's not necessarily ME!

Did you spouse diet with you?
CanyonBaby replied to kikicoates78's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Mine, too, has been so supportive - I couldn't have done it without him. He's been through most of my surgeries with me, and has endured a lot of *#@>>>>>...... from me. Not earned, not deserved. Thank you, to all those who support us. You are truly loved. -
Anxious but still moving forward
CanyonBaby replied to Shampu's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As a Christian, I relied on my faith address my fears and anxieties. And sure enough, once again (this was surgery #21), my Good Lord not only sailed me through the whole thing, He made sure there were no complications, AND allowed me to make a whole lot of new friends on this site. Good luck and God Bless you.... -
The rumors have started!
CanyonBaby replied to Kabby_Chick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about the truth? What I mean is tell them you have dr. apts to keep you on a health plan, and that you've heard caffeine is not the best thing, and it's not their business anyway. They don't need to know anymore than that (they don't even need that much), but with all the HIPPA stuff these days, they are treading on dangerous ground. Hopefully the less you make of it the less they'll make of it. Good luck! -
Popcorn my most favorite snack!
CanyonBaby replied to Queen P's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
And puff corn! There are a couple varieties: cheese and butter. BTW, it makes AWESOME caramel corn! -
P.S. My husband suggested calling the Red Cross, to see if they may have a suggestion for you. Again, best wishes and God Bless...

I just have to ask, have you asked the volunteer staff at the hospital if any of them could help you? You could maybe go in a couple of days ahead of your surgery and see if it could work. You could offer to pay for their service, also, if it would keep costs down and ensure they would show up to do the job. I hope you find a good solution. Good luck!

Welcome! I started at 223lbs, and the doc. found a hiatal hernia during the surgery. He fixed that and I have had no issues. The hernia has made my recovery go just a bit slower, but all is on schedule. Just take everything slowly while recovering, and you should do fine! Take care and good luck!

This year, for me, has been extremely eventful, including both good and sad events. But the most positive thing I could do I did - WLS. I look forward to New Sizes! New totals on the scale! New friends on this site! New and previously unattainable goals! A New and healthy life without baggage! Every morning I read a special devotional passage out of my Bible, and I'd like to share this morning's passage with all of you: "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11) It is one of my favorite verses, and has sustained me through an awful lot in this life. I am wishing you all a very Happy New Year - God Bless you all!

Once you're farther out from your surgery, you should really see the benefits, and slowly forget about the pain, and nervousness and maybe even fear you had. Then you can experience the joy of a healthier, happier life that you did for yourself. You obviously thought yourself important enough to give yourself this gift, so now it's time to enjoy it! And you have all these people on this site to help see you through any difficulties you may encounter. Pretty good deal! I wish you all the best, just look forward from now on!

I have been experiencing a major change in my skin and hair, and was wondering if anyone else was having the same experiences. My skin is a lot dryer than prior to all this stuff including the diets and surgery. This is amazing (not in a good way!) because I, by nature, am an oily skin girl. My hair, on the other hand, has become extremely oily (go figure!). I am assuming the dry skin is from the lack of fat and cholesterol in my diet. The hair, I have no clue about! If you have had similar experiences, I'd love to know what you having been doing to combat them. BTW, my surgery was 12/3/14, 4 weeks out tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Has it been like this the whole time for you? Have you called your doctor about it? Are you able to keep liquid and food down? It looks like you had your surgery in December, huh? Same here, and today, for the first time, I felt nauseas and didn't want to eat. Maybe it is just that point in healing that we're at. I'm sorry I can't help you more, and I hope you feel better soon. BTW, did you also have hernia repair during your surgery? I did, and I think mine is still healing. I think that was my issue this morning. If you want, let me know how you are doing, ok? Good luck to you.

I think you'll be very happy you joined, there are so many nice and helpful folks on this site. And it's good to join prior to your surgery, so you can get an idea what to expect, from other folk's perspective. Good luck to you and welcome!

How is everyone using the coconut oil-as someone who is unfamiliar with this concept, please explain....Thanks

Don't forget, you just came through a very stressful surgery, mostly on the emotional front. Sure, it is stressful on the body, as well, but a lot of people are afraid of surgery (not saying you are or aren't) but there is always that little uncertainty that goes with it. Now, as a lot of folks know, I've had 21 surgeries. This one was the least painful for me physically, but the most emotional by far! I cried several times afterwards, and was also very irate at a very loving and caring husband who just happened to be hovering too much (I guess his past surgical experiences with me caused this!), and was just hyper-sensitive about everything. That has passed, and now I cry because I can't believe I am finally going to achieve something I NEVER thought I would be able to do-be thinner and healthier and diabetes-free. I'm already diabetes-free, according to my doctor, and I'm thinner, and I'm healthier. It is such an emotional ride! Wow, huh?!! I consider it ALL JOY!! Happy on, now...

Prescribed metabolism booster?
CanyonBaby replied to ChronicJam's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe call or visit your pharmacist, or look it up on the internet. I've never heard of it, but that doesn't mean much! I'd be curious to hear what you find out. -
I've had 21 surgeries, and this is a first for me, too. I think it's got to be the lack of fat and cholesterol in the diet. I need to ast the doctor, next time I see her.

Have you been sipping on protein shakes throughout the day? That's what I've been told to do, it may help to keep your nausea at bay. Good luck!
