  1. Same here! And they rode off into the sunset, happy at last............. .....
  2. Are you taking all the vitamins prescribed? The B vitamins are essential for energy, so make sure if you don't already take them, call your surgical team and ask what your dosage should be. Also, have you had your thyroid level checked, before AND after the surgery? This little guy plays an important role in your life, and if he is not acting properly, you will have some not-so-good consequences. All the best to you....keep us informed!
  3. Welcome to healthy! Having the right things in your body produces "right" feelings, and energy! I am so glad for you, enjoy the ride!
  4. When was your surgery? If you are nauseous try using warm Water instead of cold, especially after just waking up (the tummy is contracted after not having anything in it for so long). How are you with the Protein shakes? You can try unflavored Protein powder with the addition of Water Enhancer drops to help get in additional water - they really helped me with my dehydration issue. And if you are still concerned tomorrow morning, please call your surgical team for additional help - that's what you paid them for! All the best to you...

    Pain meds

Your pain should be easing up soon. Have you tried a gentle, low heat heating pad or hot water bottle? Make sure it is not too hot. Try to do something to get your mind off it, and don't forget to walk - that will help the muscles get back to normal. All the best to you....

You guys are all fat losers

And thank you, for that inspiring, yet truthful comment!!! BTW, LOVE your title!
  7. Back to the basics, as others have suggested. And then others have said adding extra carbs for a day or two kicks things into action. Everyone is different, you may have to find a different plan for you. Let us know how you do!
  8. Oh! For the hernia, take small sips of warm water, so it's not such a "slap in the face"! Especially when you wake up. The tummy is contacted from having nothing in it, so wake it up gently. Try water enhancer drops in your water to help you get more in....works for me, now I'm forever in love with them!!!
  9. When did you have your surgery? The pain sounds like the gas they infuse into you during the surgery. The best way to get it moving out of you is to walk. For brief amounts of time to start, then gradually build up the length of the walk. Not to exert yourself, just to get things moving. And remember, gentle heat, on the lowest setting, for your heating pad, and not for long periods of time. If you are concerned, call your surgical team, they should be able to help with this. Most likely you will just have to wait it out. It WILL pass, as everything does, but it can seem like forever. Do something (read, crafts.....) to get your mind off of it. All the best to you......
  10. I can't help it. All I seem to be able to do today is LAUGH! And it is really a sad day for me, as my husband is off on yet another detail for work, away for another week. I have had this bloody bronchitis for nigh-onto-a-month now, and it has seriously brought me down. Especially since I can't take the typical cold meds I normally would be taking. Coughing scares me, and it is all I am doing right now. It scares me because it causes me to break ribs (I have hyperparathyroidism), which then don't heal properly, if at all. I actually had to have one removed because of the danger it posed to my lung. Talk about a painful surgery!!! So the point of my post? I sincerely hope I do not offend anyone with my laughing, as it seems EVERYTHING is amusing right now (can't understand it). I am a jovial person by nature, and like to see the light side of things, but that can be misconstrued as disrespect. But it truly isn't. So I apologize to anyone who may take what I say as such, and thanks for listening!

Can I POSSIBLY be on the mend?

Thanks, just a part of life. Nothing a couple of cute, curly puppies can't cure....wait a minute...I have said puppies and all they do is....I just can't bring myself to say it....I'll still take the puppies!
  12. You know, I never intended to tell people about it, as so many seem to think if you don't have a lot of weight to lose, you shouldn't do it. I started at 232lbs, but my diabetes was getting out of control, and nothing else was working, so I did it. And I find myself telling people that I had the surgery, and for one major reason: hopefully I can pass on that having this surgery reduces if not STOPS the diabetes, thus giving a person a much better quality of life. It stopped my diabetes; no more meds, I only test once a week, no more shots..... AWESOME!!! The word NEEDS to get out, and hopefully help others with diabetes. So I tell all who would be interested, and especially all who I know already have diabetes.

    A great Start

We lose a lot on the pre-op/post-op diets, then when we get to the normal food stage, things slow down, and even stop (the infamous "stall"). The thing is not to get too used to such a fast loss, as then the stalls will seem unacceptable and then you deem the surgery a failure. You will stall, and it may last a long time. Your body has to adjust to the new program, and it may seriously fight it, thinking you are in starvation mode (and you are). So be prepared, love the major loss you have had, and get ready for the long-haul - the slowing down of weight loss, the "rearranging" of your body composition, and the mental battles that inevitably come upon us all. Good luck to you on your journey!

    Week 2 Soft Foods

Everyone's plan seems to be different, so follow your team's advice. If you're experiencing pain, and you're concerned, call your surgical team for answers. Maybe pull back on the heavier foods, going back to liquids for awhile, until you are more comfortable-feeling. That staple line is very, shall I say, "unhappy" right now, so comfort it a little with liquids. There's a lot of healing going on, and even a little bit of solid food stuck in one of those "wrinkles" can cause you an awful lot of grief. So many seem in such a hurry to get back to normal food textures, but the body needs to do it on it's own terms. If you want crunch/texture, try sugar-free popsicles. All the best to you...

    Protein

Try using water enhancer drops with the unflavored protein powder in your water. It not only will get you the protein you need, but will make getting in your fluids much easier. And you can adjust the sweetness level. Dasani has some good ones that don't really add sweetness, just a hint of flavor. Using extracts (eg. lemon, orange, rum, vanilla, maple, peppermint...) also add flavor, but no sweetness. All the best....

    Low heart rate

My husband has a very low heart rate, due to all the cardio he does daily. It's a good thing you have the monitor; maybe write down all the little oddities you notice while you are wearing it, so your team can deduce what the issue is. All the best to you....
  17. Everyone is different in this regard, I was weak for weeks! If you feel it is unusual, call your surgical team for advice. Make sure you're getting your fluids in as well as your protein. Baby yourself a little!
  18. No, I don't think you're being a baby about this, this is serious "*%$@. I agree with a previous poster regarding getting a different doctor for your follow-up appointments. Just keep your chin up as you face this; in time you should see how beneficial the surgery is, and how it will help you avoid things like diabetes and other nasties. We are here for you!

    Protein before surgery

Popsicles, my dear, sugar-free popsicles. They are a life-saver when you need the crunch/chew factor. POPSICLES!

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

Not to insult anyone here, it's just not in my nature; but I HAVE to say I am enjoying this SOOOOO much, and am getting such a good laugh (much to my lungs' dismay - cough, cough)! So can I say Happy April Fool's day, everyone, and don't let this make a fool of us all.....

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

And as for the grammar-thing, I think most people are just in a hurry, and can't be bothered with grammar. So are we to be proper in all areas before we get a response, let alone a kind one? Education, or lack thereof, plays a large role here, as well. Not to mention the fact that this particular site tends to omit letters, punctuation, and sometimes complete WORDS. I can forgive that, who am I to judge? And if I am going to judge something so small, I fear for myself in all the REALLY bad things I do, say and think..... Yes, I deliberately did not put a period there, for emphasis' sake! Onto important things, now, like cat litter-box cleaning..........
  24. Sorry, sweetie, I am afraid you are stuck with your sleeve. So make friends with it. And this may help. Get some unflavored protein powder, off the internet if you have to. Have really cold water, add the appropriate amount of the protein powder, then add some water enhancer drops (found at the grocery store) then mix well. It will be cloudy, but it will taste (in my opinion) thousands of times better than the shakes. Also add the drops to plain water to get in your fluids. Take some time for yourself, get a book about the sleeve, thoroughly read about what just happened to you so you can fully understand. It's time to start facing the reality of what you have done, and accepting it on it's terms. If you follow your program, it will work. Period. This site will be very supportive, but you have to do your part, as well. So, have a firm chat with yourself, and maybe say a prayer for healing, as well as thanksgiving, for this MIRACLE surgery that can give you your life back. All the best to you....
  25. Ok. Finally someone else has the same issues as I have, not that that is a good thing! I regularly see a chiropractor, who helps put things back where they SHOULD be. But it doesn't last very long, as I haven't yet built up those muscles to keep the joints in place. That's the thing. My nurse has told me our bodies WILL change in stride, gait...as we lose weight. THUS it will require us to change, as well. Things will need to figure out where they are going to be, in the body, and it may take a while to sort itself out. My Chiro-guy was shocked to see how much things have altered in my body due to the weight loss, so he's having a field day (!!!) messing with my body (while I am in excruciating pain, I might add!). This is going to take time, but may I suggest seeing a GOOD, REPUTABLE chiropractor to help you with this? Research the Chiro's, people, and try to find a REALLY good one. This is the voice of experience speaking here!!!!
