SWELLING AROUND GASTRIC SLEEVE - WORRIED. . . . post op 5months.
CanyonBaby replied to thesweetone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@thesweetone The burning may be that you're not getting enough fluids in. Water seems to be the culprit, a lot of times after WLS, so try adding some Water Enhancer drops to the water. If cold water hurts, try tepid (luke warm) water with the drops. You can find the drops in the grocer store. There are lots of brands and lots of flavors. You can add as little or as much as you want, to adjust the sweetness and flavor. You can also mix the flavors! Try to get in 64 ounces per day. Good luck to you! -
"This, too, shall pass", and it will! "Time heals all wounds", and it does! Give yourself time and patience, if you have been reading this site, you know we all go through this, and get past it. IT HURTS TO HEAL!!!! All the best to you......

Today is "overweight" day!
CanyonBaby replied to Mike4132's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
And such awesomeness (new word?!) is well-deserved! Congrats! -
Try adding unflavored protein powder to cold water, then add water enhancer drops to your taste. You can adjust the sweetness level. Also, Try adding the unflavored powder to V8, or Clamato (watch the serving size of the juice, though - carb alert!!!), and also to broth and soups. MUCH better than shakes!

When I had my surgery, the person ahead of me actually backed out at the last minute, so I was rushed in immediately. I think they have a lot of cancelations, for whatever reason, and having a backlog helps minimize costs.

Cottage cheese and swamp ass, how to get rid!?
CanyonBaby replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I gotta say, that is the first time I've heard it called that! Had me rolling off my chair! Not sure what can be done, how long ago did you have your surgery? Are you looking into plastic surgery? I went to a support group meeting here locally last night, where a plastic surgeon spoke to our group. There are a number of options available (most of which insurance will NOT cover), and they are pricey (they started at about 5K to around 13K). There is one for arms (I think it is called bracchioplasty), and it will leave a long scar. Then there are body lifts, and others specifically for the lower torso. If you have a support group where you are, suggest having a plastic surgeon come and speak, it is very informative. There is liposuction, which may help with the newly "fashionable" cottage cheese look! I wish you all the best with this! -
SWELLING AROUND GASTRIC SLEEVE - WORRIED. . . . post op 5months.

What brought you in for the scan? Did they tell you to see the surgeon? They should have told you something? Worrying won't help, but I can understand if you do. But try not to, it can really raise your blood pressure. Try to get your mind off it, and focus on positive things. If they didn't have you make an appointment, it probably is nothing to worry about. Let us know! Good luck to you.... -
Pain at stomach's "exit" incision
CanyonBaby replied to ZoeyBear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It'll pass. Remember, they really stretched and pulled that puppy when they removed the stomach. Try a low heat setting on a heating pad, Use a towel between you and the pad. If it is too warm, turn the heating pad on (off of you), then once it is warm, turn it off, then let it cool a bit before you put it on the towel, then on you. This should help. It DOES pass quickly. Good luck to you! -
@@DWordGuy Good luck to you on your surgery, keep us posted! Pictures are great!

I had to wait until 8 weeks after surgery to take whole pills. Ask your pharmacy for liquid options, or other options. Once again, the pills can get stuck in the staple line, so be careful!

Can anyone help? Bladder or hernia idk
CanyonBaby replied to robertweisman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm guessing you probably strained the incisions, but to be sure, why not call a bariatric surgeon in your area? They can probably make you an appointment. Do you notice any redness or swelling? Does it hurt to touch it? Is there a bulge under the skin? That might indicate a hernia. Do you have an Urgent Care facility near you? It might be advisable to go in if you are concerned. How about a Primary Care Physician (PCP) - do you have one? I think it would be good to see them as soon as you can, so you don't have to deal with complications. Let us know how you do, OK? Take care... -

Do you think it is incision pain? Did they go through your belly-button? Do you know if you did anything strenuous, like lifting more than 10lbs? If you are uncertain, CALL YOUR SURGEON! Don't wait for complications to arise. Your surgical team should be able to advise you as to what to do. You know, I would call them anyway, just to be on the safe side. You DID pay them for this! Good luck and let us know how you are! -
@@kimpossible67 Thanks!!! I need to ask the chiropractor about it before I try it, but I think it would help me a lot. He just needs to ok the moves/positions to make sure (especially) the sacral joints don't pop out - they have a nasty, HATEFUL way with me.....

@@jackiemc1987 Yeah, I was told ok for the juice when I first was post-op, then told NO WAY for later (the dreaded carb thing again!!!), so now I'm back to missing it....what I would do for a LARGE glass of O.J. (or Coke) right now!!!!! -

Oh, Bless your heart! Just think of it as the beginning of your new life!!! And it is! You should do fine, you've been doing great with your pre-op stuff. My NUT has said that the stress of the surgery (this I CAN'T figure out, because I've had 22 surgeries to date, and NONE prior to this made me lose hair!) combined with the starvation mode puts us into the hair loss situation. I, too, have followed (to the T) my Protein and Vitamin (have to for other serious illnesses I 've had) regime, from day one. But I still have loss, although I can officially say it has lessened up considerably since I started the Nioxin shampoo. I figure I have lost about 1/3 of my hair, but I'm ok with it as I had a lot of hair to start with, even though it is fine, but there is still a lot on my head. I can't say for sure it is the Nioxin that fixed it, because I also changed my thyroid meds and that usually helps me a lot with hair loss. Anyway, I'll be praying for your recovery and let me know how you are doing! All the best.....

Tips for beginners
CanyonBaby replied to jackiemc1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Tauruslady5 I sometimes wonder the same thing, then I realize I think that about the surgeons here where I'm at...they churn them through SOOOO fast! But I feel I have an awesome follow-up team. We don't see the surgeon again after we are out of the hospital, unless there is a major issue. We just go for several follow-ups to the primary nurses and dieticians. My pre-op was carefully supervised, as was my post-op diet, and we can call/e-mail the team anytime we feel the need. As far as the Mexican surgery, I think the doctors there (from what I've heard) do a good job, but I just don't hear about follow-up plans. Who do they call? Who do they follow-up with, to make sure there are no complications? Anyone? What if there are complications? Will the U.S. hospitals/Doctors take care of complications after foreign surgeries? I don't know, I would hope so. The "need to treat" thing, maybe. I heard several theories on going to Mexico and other places, such as price, insurance won't cover the surgery, even the "I want it even though I may not really need it, and no one here will do it". I guess people will do what they need to do, and they should know best what is right for them. I can't judge that, because I am not them, in their situation. But I do wonder sometimes.... -
You are talking me into it! I have severe back/hip/sacral joint issues that scare me off of things like yoga, but I hear such good things about it. I am just so afraid of putting my joints out of order, so I tend to stay away from things that might do that. I walk. I garden (and that is dangerous enough!). I have to do more for the other parts of my body. Hopefully I can find some class that can guide me well enough so I don't hurt myself. I hate pain.

@@Tauruslady5 I have recently discovered a lot of folks who have had WLS are not given post-op plans (can you imagine?), and aren't aware of the dangers that can result from doing the wrong things at the wrong (right?) times! In fact, I was just made aware of this the other day by a good friend who is going to Mexico for their surgery, and hasn't been given ANY plans, pre-op or post-op. What can we do? As we are not the doctors, nurses, or dieticians, we can only offer our experiences and suggestions, and hopefully that will help. I'm with you, your advice is excellent! -
I am a success...that has failed to continue
CanyonBaby replied to Roo101769's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@Roo101769 Oh, you do have a battle to fight! So, may I suggest battling it this way? Get one of those divider cups (find in the baby section, near where the formula is - about 3"x3", with a removable top), fill it with 2-3 portions (about 1/2 ounce EACH of said snack) of healthy snack items (such as craisins, cubed cheese, bite-size Jerky - I use a kitchen shears to cut it up, nuts, raisins, other dried fruit....). That way you have a ready-to-snack option at hand, that will take away the craving for the stuff on the dreaded table. The Protein in the snack should help keep you sated until mealtime, and the carbs should give you enough energy until the next time you eat. The key is to keep the portion size small, just enough to get you through. Hopefully this will help in the "battle of the table"! -
I don't know why it would create a stall, I wouldn't think it would. Is it that you cannot get down regular Water that you only use Crystal Lite? How far out from surgery are you? I like to use the Water Enhancer drops for most of my drinking, but am starting to cut back on that, trying to drink plain water. Now that I am farther out (almost 5 months), I can tolerate it a lot better. And I like it better. I'm just of the mind that all the artificial colors/flavors are probably not the best for me. I LOVE iced tea, and am using different flavors (favorites are chai-spice and French vanilla), so that makes drinking more interesting! I understand the surface tension of the water is altered by adding something to the water, thus making it easier to get down. If it helps you to get more in, then why not?
