Surgery is Tuesday! OMG!
CanyonBaby replied to purpleandgold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys will do great! Have all your ducks in a row, all that you'll need for your recovery so you don't have to run out to the store (you're not going to want to), have all your shakes, baby food, sf popsicles ready to go. Get yourself a heating pad, some Kleenex for the "sad" times, some great movies, an AWESOME teddy bear, some comfy pj's and a whole lot of unflavored protein powder. Now your set, welcome to your "new life"! Bless you on your journey! -
How to Choose Between Band and Sleeve
CanyonBaby replied to marysmom1216's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@losing_the_band And I can totally relate to what you're saying, because after all the crap I have had to endure because of my weight, and the different major surgeries involved because of said weight, I had given up the thought of EVER being "normal" and living without this CONSTANT "weight" around my neck!!! Until, yes it is true, 2 months before I had the sleeve done, I had NO IDEA such a surgery existed, let alone think WLS could be for me. I weighed 232lbs when I started my "journey", maybe not so much in some people's eyes, but what it DID to me over the years was downright DISASTEROUS. And I couldn't fight it. Genetics, health issues, every diet conceivable....nothing worked, and everything was saying "die, fool!". I had given up. My family history tells me I will die by the time I am 65, if not sooner (sis just passed at 56, mom at 64). SOMETHING had to be done. So I did it. It was surgery number 22. Husband said this time he thought I wouldn't make it - wow, for him to say that. I am 53, and am now in remission from my diabetes. My blood pressure is down. My cholesterol is down. I am down 55lbs since I had the surgery in December. Doing ok, I think. THINK....heck, yeah! I don't know how long I have, no one does. But I feel I at least, FINALLY, I have a fighting chance. Today is my 18th wedding anniversary. I'm looking for a whole lot more. To us, my dear, to us! -
@@KatrinaGrace Well, NO WONDER you have incontinence! I'm glad it isn't an infection, but with the situation you have, keep an eye on it so it doesn't turn into one. Will you be able to stop the muscle relaxers soon? I sure hope things get better for you soon, I think I'll have me a little chat with the good Lord above, and see what He can do for you...you're in my prayers!

Loss of husband's support? :(
CanyonBaby replied to Joz31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If he's been supportive UP TO THIS POINT, I can practically GUARANTEE that he is just nervous, worried, and scared. It just comes out differently in husbands! You are (more than likely, anyway) going to throw a lot of crap at him afterwards, and he is going to need to "gird up his loins" to handle it! Plus, there is always the risk of complications, so he is worried about that (just like you are), as well. Is this his first experience with your having surgery? I would almost bet that it is. Go to him, comfort him, and remember, you are not the only one going through this! He is, too. Bless you both....and good luck with your surgery...BTW, MY poor husband has been through 13 surgeries with me...he is a PRO! -
Just keep that joy coming, because you WILL feel joyous when your through the hurdles. Keep the focus on the JOY, for "Joy comes in the morning"..... Safe surgeries for you all, let us know how you are faring......

If you haven't seen your PCP for this yet, you may wish to. Are you absolutely certain you don't have a UTI? Get it checked before it reaches your kidneys. And force yourself to drink more, try the Water Enhancer drops with your water. It does help a lot. Good luck to you and keep us informed!

Oh, yeah, you guys are ready! Think about your normal meal, then compare it to what you are having now. Are you really surprised you are weak? Enter starvation mode, which will be with you for quite awhile now. Your body is going to fight it, and go into a hibernation, of sorts. But this is just the beginning, and I hope you have researched this whole process well. After your surgery, you will look at your meal and say "you're kidding, right? You want me to eat that whole thing?!" or I'll have another swallow of that "DELICIOUS" Protein shake ....later....". Yeah, I'd say you're ready! Good luck to you both, and Godspeed.....

WHEN I am done rolling on the floor, I'll tell you what I do.............................................................................................. OK. I'm done, for now.....I take in as much air as possible into my lungs. I hold it for ten long, slow seconds. Then I GENTLY and SLOWLY (S L O W L Y) release the air THROUGH MY NOSE (not my mouth). I then take very shallow, slow breaths in to see if it worked. If it didn't, I try it again. It is just a matter of relaxing the diaphragm, so it may take a few times. Good luck to you....back to rolling..........................................

Please explain protein for weight loss to me
CanyonBaby replied to mhuntoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of the above. For protein, I use a lot of unflavored protein powder in ANYTHING that is drinkable. Decaf coffee, crystal lite, soup, broth, V8, Clamato....... You can mix it into scrambled eggs, grits, anything very wet. Definitely tolerable, downright good in a lot of the aforementioned. -
Everyone of us who has had WLS is of a different mind and opinion, and we need to remember that those who haven't had the surgery is different, as well. What I mean is that if you categorize every date a certain way, you will start to see them as all the same, fitting into a certain "mold", if you will. I like to see the potential of a person before I categorize them, to see where they fit in my life. It would be hard to categorize a person just by talking with them on the phone (or even on the internet...like this website!!!), because there will always be things you can't address unless you are eye-to-eye. I like to take things one step at a time, revealing WHEN the time is right, IF ever. My theory is this; what harm can it do if I meet with the person, if nothing else, at least I will have a new friend! You will KNOW when the time is right (or not) when to reveal your surgical information. You may feel it is right to do it immediately, you may never tell. You may hint at it. But just one thing to remember, if he does have a weight issue, and is self-conscious about it (and who of us has never been self-conscious about it at some point?), you may be just the trigger-pull he needs to do something about it, when the possibility of that happening may never have occurred without meeting YOU! I have been blessed with a husband of 18 years, who married me when I was 58lbs heavier than I am now (he loves me for who I am, not my weight). We tell each other everything, good or bad. It strengthens the relationship. He knows about every aspect of all my surgeries, because he needs to be able to tell medical staff what my history is if anything should happen to me. If he didn't know about my WLS, he couldn't tell them about things like no NG tube, no N-Saids...if I should go unconscious. Why keep it a secret? If I am good with it, he is. This decision is ultimately yours, and I SINCERELY hope you find someone like mine, you would INDEED be blessed!

Pre Surgery AnXiEtY! 16 days
CanyonBaby replied to MassageMini's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should be able to do all you normally do. And MORE!!!!! Think of the TINY clothes you will fit into, the fact that your life will no longer revolve around food in a negative way, think of how comfortably you'll fit into that chair, or amusement park ride, think of how much longer you will live - to see your kids grow up and have kids of their own....the joys of this adventure are endless, you have ALOT to look forward to! There WILL be difficult times, but like childbirth, they pass. Research the surgery and what comes after, read posts on this site about what people have experienced. You may or may not have the same issues, but by reading up on them now, you will be better prepared. It seems the ones who have the hardest times are the ones who only see the here and now, and don't look ahead. ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD, ALWAYS! See PAST the difficult times, it will help you get through them much more pleasantly. All the best to you... -
2 wks Post-Hard to eat! Feeling weak & shaky
CanyonBaby replied to LeeRN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was pretty much the same as you at that point. Have you tried using water enhancer drops in your water to get in your fluids? You could try using those same drops with unflavored protein powder in your water for the protein if shakes are intolerable. You can also use that same powder in broth and soups for extra protein. How are you with thin scrambled eggs? Lots of protein there. Also add protein powder to milk, and/or dry milk powder to regular milk (I used this ALOT). Are you able to get down yogurt? Stir in a little protein powder in it, or dry milk powder. It DOES get better, just try not to overdo. All the best to you.... -

Dumping syndrome with sleeve?
CanyonBaby replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's an individual thing. I also have heard some that do and others that don't. I don't and never have. I am just about 5 months out. I eat sweets in moderation (very rarely, and very little when I do), no issues. Get it clarified by your surgeon, and maybe do some research on it. There are an awful lot of folks who have the sleeve, and from most I've met and read about, they are happy with it. I wish you all the best.... -
Plastic surgery and pregnancy
CanyonBaby replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I see my scars, and there are many, as battle wounds - a battle that saved my life. My husband loves my scars, for he sees them the same way. The only real issue I can potentially see for you is that you make sure any surgery you have now (plastics) won't interfere with childbearing. Or nursing....... Otherwise, go for it! -
How to Choose Between Band and Sleeve
CanyonBaby replied to marysmom1216's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The sleeve was for me. I just wanted something permanent, something I wouldn't have to "get after", or have anything done to it. I have had 22 surgeries, including this one, and I don't want any more. At some point in time, I feel invasiveness will get the better of me, and I need to stop having things done, or it will. If I continue to follow my plan, and I fully intend to, this "permanent" fix will do what it was intended to do, and I should live "happily ever after"! -
@@kyw78 If you can't find unflavored Protein powder at the store, search for it on Amazon.com. They have several options. Good luck to you!

Slimes for 5 hours? What the ?!?!
CanyonBaby replied to WL WARRIOR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did you check that the milk hadn't spoiled? It seems to me these days things like that are spoiling ALOT quicker than they used to (or is it that I'm just not going through it fast enough?!). Also, how much of the pudding did you eat? It is a pretty heavy substance, and when it hits the sleeve, it might have been taken by your sleeve as someone just threw a bucket of mud on it...it may not take too kindly to that!!! Maybe just have lighter things today, broths, gelatins, sf popsicles, just to give it that tender-loving-care thing. Til your feeling better. Good luck to you! -
Hey, Chris, you appear to be doing fine - great, even! The thing I wander about is why are you still crushing your meds? I was told I could take whole pills at 8 weeks out. Now, I know every doctor has a different plan for each of us, but I'm wondering if you are getting the full benefit from the crushed meds, as opposed to whole meds (which may be time-released). If you haven't yet, ask your doctor if it's now ok to take your meds whole (and avoid the nasty crushed taste!!!). Good luck to you!

Dr. says 40 is too young...help
CanyonBaby replied to mythreekids's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Many people far younger than 40 are having other WL surgeries, and I don't agree that in 5 years you will regain the weight (unless you aren't planning on following the plan for after the surgery). You will have to work to keep the weight off, that's no surprise. But there is also the revision to RNY after the sleeve surgery if the sleeve isn't working. So there are alternatives to the band, but if you will follow the after-plan after the sleeve surgery, I don't see why it wouldn't be a success. I agree with LeeRN, see other surgeons about this. I, too, think your dr. may have ulterior motives. It can't hurt to ask other doctors, and you may get it covered by insurance. -
Maybe try clear broths, to start. Creamy soups may be a little heavy, especially if you are already nauseous. Keep sippin!
