Boy, what a difference! I only hope my success will be that great! You're really an inspiration.

I'm sorry to hear you were rescheduled. They rescheduled me too. I was rebellious and went out to eat the night they called me, going off of my liquid preop diet. (for that day only). That meant ANOTHER week of liquids for me. But, I DID make it through. I can't tell you HOW many nights I laid awake in bed pondering on it. But, you have been rescheduled. Just focus on what lies ahead. FYI - once you get banded, then you will be focused on when you can get your first fill - seems like there is ALWAYS something you have to wait on! (and I've NEVER been good at waiting). But, the road ahead can only be better for us. HANG IN THERE IT WILL GET BETTER!

another note to bensdad: I haven't had very much luck in locating the name of the nutrionist I used or in finding the information about filing an appeal. I DID find this on 'bariatric edge' website. Might help some. Appealing a Denial If the insurance company turns down your request for bariatric surgery, you may be able to appeal the decision. Many people do not take advantage of the appeals process or know of the laws that govern insurance companies in their state. Work with Your Bariatric Program Assistance is key. It is critical that you work with your bariatric program to determine the correct approach to appealing a denial. Your program is there to assist you and to help you adhere to your policy’s requirements. Tip Write a description of how morbid obesity decreases the quality of your life. Be sure to include details such as difficulty walking, socializing, or maintaining personal hygiene. This documentation can be useful for your bariatric program and health insurance company. Possible Options After Appeals Even if you exhaust the appeals options, you still may have options: - Independent review board: This is an option available to people in more than 40 states and doesn’t require a lawyer. Judgments usually are issued in 60 days. Check your state’s website for specific filing instructions. - Arbitration: Some health insurance companies require patients to use a third party—other than the patient’s lawyer and the insurance company—instead of going to court. - Litigation: This option is expensive and takes a lot of time.

Bensdad, I went to a nutrionist that was in my book for BCBS, I only had to pay the $10 copay. I can find her name and number and you can contact her. I'm not sure what the charge would be if you went to her out of network. I did a quick search but couldn't find her. Can't remember her name. Will keep looking. If you have a network book, look and see if you have dietician's there. By the way, Dr. Davis is great! I wish you luck. I remember reading something, I think it was on lapband.com about a group that helps you to file for an appeal with insurance if you are denied. I will look for that too.

I have BCBS PPO, my insurance covered everything so far, but I had to do certain things to be approved, 1. Have a three year weight history from Dr. 2. Give my own plan of what I have done to lose weight over the years 3. Have a recent physical including thryoid levels 4. Go through a psychological evaluation 5. Go to a nutrionist before hand, and Emory required me to go through a nutrional class. (the class I had to pay for out of pocket, $180) Once I did these things they sent me up for pre approval. I was approved in about a week. Then I had to have an endoscopy done.

Did someone say Prime Rib? Spare Ribs? My family is in the living room watching a program on BBQ, and I would jump on somebody for some meat!!! I have had fish and chicken, but no beef. I am ready for my fill so maybe I won't be so hungry and feel all these cravings.

Deathly afraid of death!

Not sure how this got so out of hand, but I find it offensive that I am not allowed to post MY own opinion. I do believe in fate. I do believe our days are numbered and that God has a plan for us. That doesn't mean that YOU believe the same thing. And, I disagree that Wayne's post says that since you don't believe the same that YOU won't go to heaven. You are reading that in because you don't agree. That would be like saying that since YOU don't believe in God that everyone else has no right to say they feel any different. You want to have your right to post your opinion, but don't want to give us the same consideration. That is offensive to me. I have the right to say Merry Christmas. I have the right to say that I feel our time is set out from our birth. The scriptures back up what I say. And, yes, there are unfair things that happen, (holocaust, children dying) but the innocent have always suffered. It is not for us to question the why, just to know there is a plan for each person's life, set by God. Maybe God doesn't sit in heaven and say, "These two people are having the same surgery the same day. This one will die, this one will live." But, He allows things to happen, maybe by the choices that men make (like a bad doctor). We have no way of knowing this. The scripture also says it is not for us to ask why or to know the reasons for all things, but to have faith and be steadfast in what you believe. The posts made by Wayne and by myself are OUR opinions. There are other people who DO feel this way, and may find solace in our post. There are other people who do NOT feel the same way, and they can skip our post and go on to something else. I work for a Jewish man, and he doesn't believe in Jesus. It doesn't mean that I don't have the right to how I feel or to express my feelings. I know a muslim girl who works at a store down the street, and she just got married because of a family arrangement. She always expresses well wishes to me when I stop there on my way to church on Sundays and wishes me well. I too wish her well. I do not try to impose my beliefs on either one of them and respect their faith and their feelings. So, my conclusion? I will be praying for you. -

Wayne, this is Candy. We were both 'critiqued' by crackedpepper, not LA. -

Dr. Lin (404) 778-5673 - He is with Emory Bariatrics. My Dr., Scott Davis is also with Emory Bariatrics. I really like them. They have been very helpful and thorough.

and one more little tidbit --- if you will search other threads, you will see there are many people with many beliefs. Some are Christian, some are not. Regardless of what any of us believes or doesn't believe, there is no reason to blast me or anyone else because we believe something different than you. None of us really knows if our beliefs are 'IT' or not. All of us could have it wrong. But, that is why we have the right to choose our own beliefs. -

we each can believe what we believe, including, you, cracked pepper. Neither of us pushed anything on anyone and just as you posted your opinion, we can post our opinion. If it upset you, maybe your beliefs are not as steadfast in your mind as you would like. Not our problem. -
Oh Christine, I can imagine how bad you feel. Do you have any idea when they will do the x-ray? I can only imagine how bad it must be. I too would be finding solace in food. That is one of the reasons I have such a problem with my weight now. Food has been my comfort. I know they rescheduled my surgery, and I had been on a liquid diet for almost two weeks. They called the day before my scheduled surgery and told me it would be another week. I rebelled by going out to eat that night. Fortunately, I didn't do too much damage, and went right back on the liquids, but I know it is SO easy to turn to food when we get depressed. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Ann

I have a post op appt. on Dec. 27 and thought I would be getting my first fill that day. I called to verify and was told I had to wait until Jan. 3 for my first fill. I'm kind of disappointed. I'm feeling hungry and am afraid that I will gain weight before the 3rd. I don't see why they can't go ahead and give me a fill on Dec. 27th.

Deathly afraid of death!

I fully believe that when your time comes, you will die regardless of your circumstances. I had a friend who was very negative and told me of someone she knew who knew someone who had died of complications. I assured her that if I died, she could stand up at my funeral and say, "well, it was her time to go". And, over three weeks later, I'm still ALIVE!!! -
Frisky, I had to take a class with a nutritionist. You can have 1 cup portions, and I have had nuts already, so that is not true that you can't have nuts. There is a thread somewhere with what people are really eating, and they lay out their meals. Go read some of that. You did get bad information. And, Granny, YES I am hungry. I thought the lapband procedure itself would end that, but now I've found out that different people react differently. I am one who needs a fill to have any restriction. I have been very hungry and haven't lost as much as I'd like to lose. I have read many posts where others have done similarly, and some said they even GAINED weight before getting a fill. We are in stages, and everyone reacts differently. So, we still have far to go on our journey, but don't be disheartened. We've made the right choice. We just have to take it one day at a time.

I guess I'm lucky, my insurance covered everything. I didn't have to pay for my letter of necessity or for any scheduling.
-
I don't feel any restriction. I need my fill. I've not lost like I want to.

by the way, I read some of you referring to Loganville, that is where I live. I graduated from high school here in 1978. Spent all my time trying to get away and ended right back where I started from!

Hey everyone, I have to add myself to the "Georgia" List. I was banded at Emory on 12/4/07 by Scott Davis. I have seen Dr. Lin there too, but Dr. Davis has been great. I just passed the three week mark but was not prepared for the hunger that I've felt. Didn't realize that I needed a fill for the band to start working. So far I'm doing really well though. I had a lot of redness around my port incision, but went in Yesterday and they gave me an antibiotic and told me I was fine. I had all these thoughts going through my head, what if it was infected? What if my body rejected the port? what if they had to cut it out? Of course, I WORRY TOO MUCH. Now I'm just waiting for my fill on Jan. 3rd. I haven't lost as much weight since my surgery as I expected to, but I've not been able to curb my appetite like I thought I would. GLAD TO MEET YOU ALL. (from true Georgia girl - my first name is Georgia!!!)

I know everyone is different, but I didn't have any nausea. Good luck tomorrow to brownbkae, and congratulations to RonKat & Lachia and welcome to Mile High and good luck to all the december 07 bandsters!!! We're on our way!!!

yes, it sucks when everything seems to go wrong, and my usual way of dealing with all this would have been to raid the refrigerator, and now we can't even do that! But, it WILL get BETTER!!!
-
I had the exact same pain, but mine was gas. It went away in about two weeks. It would get better during the day, but at night it would come back, really bad. I finally realized about a week ago that it went away. Now I have no pain, yesterday was three weeks from my surgery date.

FINALLY, this thread is going somewhere interesting ...
