  1. Hi. I'm female, age 39, about 5'5" or 5'6" and 185 pounds or so (approx. 31 BMI). I am curious if there is anyone out there that has been banded with a lower BMI like mine. I have struggled with my weight for the past 7 years and I just can't seem to get it under control. I'm not as active as I used to be with kids but I do get out and play tennis once a week. My weight is killing my ankles, knees and hips. If you were able to have the surgery done, did insurance pay for it? jodi

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

AudricIan, let me just say WOW! It sort of makes me giggle that you're not telling your husband but then again it scary too....I'm sure you feel the same way. I HOPE HOPE HOPE you don't have any complications but if you do you have your best friend and mother. I'm 5'5" or 5'6" and 186 and also considering the band. I've read many threads lately about complications so I'm kind of backing off the idea for the moment but I'm still going to continue reading. I just wish there was a statistical summary of how many patients have the band and how many have complications, etc. What is your surgery date? I'm so excited to see how you do during this process!!!! I am so jealous you live so close to TJ! I live in Kentucky so I'd have to find followup care here. It would also be a MAJOR MAJOR expense for us living on just my husband's salary. Keep me posted on your progress!:clap2:
  3. Jenn - I have not checked into lapband here except to do a tad bit of research on the doc that does them here. From what I have read online, he does not have a really good bedside manner with some people. My BMI is only 31 (I'm 5'5" or so and 186 lbs). No doc would touch me here in the US, I think. I was looking into surgery in Mexico with Dr. Ortiz...I think that is his name. My fear of something "going wrong" stems from my past experience with surgery. I've had several surgeries but this past March I had some major complications from a surgery that caused me a great deal of pain for about two months. It has been very hard to get over. It was a simple surgery so things CAN go wrong and can be horrible. This year had been VERY hard because of those two months of horrible pain. It sounds like you know what you want...I'm still trying to figure that out. I wish you the absolute BEST and hope this makes you a healthier person. Wooohooo for you! :clap2:Please keep me updated on your progress.
  4. Jenn - I live in Ol' Paducah.
  5. Jenn--What city in w. Kentucky to you live? How much to you weigh? Height? Very curious to see someone near me go through this. I've been doing A LOT of reading on the lapband and I'm starting to shy away from it because there seems to be so many complications...some little, some big. I'm also seeing that they don't last a "lifetime" like I thought they would. It seems like they eventually "slip" and have to be removed. I just can't afford to have complications as I would be totally self pay. I'm still reading up on it so I may change my mind. I could just be reading all the negative posts right now. I'd love to know what the average length of a lapband lasts. I also still haven't gotten an answer on what would happen if I went to Mexico and then had complications in the U.S.--would my insurance pay for any complications, etc.??? Jodi
  6. Can someone please explain this to me. If I have my lapband done in Mexico will my insurance company pay for fills in the US? Should I even TELL my insurance company I had it done? What if I have to have an emergency removal of the band for some strange reason...will my insurance company cover it since I went to Mexico? Jodi
  7. Sundance - You were just banded last month and you've already lost 16 pounds silly. That is awesome!
  8. ThinagainJann - How exciting. I'd love to keep up with your progress as I'm just starting to think about having this done. I'm in western Kentucky and I don't think anyone here would touch me. jodi

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hello. I'm female, age 39, height around 5'5" or 5'6" and weight 186 or so. My BMI is 31 according to the calculators online. I would love to get back to a weight of 125-135 as my body looks healthy at that weight. Did any of you have stats similar to mine and get banded? I'm curious to hear other stories. Is getting banded worth it? How will I feel afterwards? My eating problems consist of eating too much at one setting and bad food choices. I'm never really "hungry"...I just eat when it is time to eat. For instance...my husband is cooking dinner right now and I'm not really hungry but I'm going to eat what he makes. Does that make any sense? Will I have to change my diet? I guess what I'm trying to say is will this lapband work for a person like me? How does it make you feel "full" to where you know you have to stop eating? I never really know when to stop now...I don't feel like I totally overeat but I obviously eat too much or I would be thinner.:help: Jodi
  10. GraceUtah - What was your BMI? I'm confused because according to your ticker your BMI is 43.9 and you have lost 94 pounds and 22 more to go. I'm very interested in how you got the procedure done with a lower BMI. Pleassseee respond. THANKS!
  11. Hello. I'm 5'5" or 5'6" and weigh 185 or so. My BMI is around 31. I can't get this weight off and it's been on for about 7 years or so. Does anyone know if I would be eligible for Lapband and insurance pay for it? I play tennis once a week and I feel like I'm falling apart...I've got plantar fascitis (spelling?), my ankles are killing me, my knee and my hip. I can see myself just getting worse if I can't get this weight under control and get it off. jodi
