Catcutie replied to aHealthierMe121714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get to start soft foods on Monday - so excited. Stats: 10 pounds lost since surgery on the 29th, 30 pounds total loss to date. -
I started my process May 26, 2014 and had surgery by December 29, 2014 - so seven months total.

16 lbs is amazing. I'm only down 3 since surgery on 12/29. -
Please recommend an unflavored protein powder

I use Mercola's unflavored Miracle Whey. All of them make me nauseous, even his flavored ones, but this one I can tolerate. -
December 29, 2014 sleevers

Another 29th sleever here. Sipping water and broth...trying to get in 40oz today. I seem to be having an allergic reaction to my hydrocodone pain med...fortunately pain is getting better. -
jenjen262, I think many of us questioned whether this surgery was worth the risks and we each made the decision on what we believed was best for us, which means some determined surgery was best for them and and some did not. It took me years and countless more diets and exercise plans, that I ultimately failed, but brought me to the realization that dieting doesn't work for me and eating healthy and exercise did not lower my weight significantly (I'm 56) and I needed a tool that would give me a break from diet induced hunger and limits my food intake capacity so I could practice healthy eating and still lose weight. If you think you are having normal cold feet, know that it's likely that most of us felt hat way before surgery, I know I did, but we wanted to take the risk anyway and are happier for it. But if in your heart of hearts, you are not ready for this surgery and it's risks, do not do it. Best of luck to you on whatever you decide.

Hello 12/29 sleepers. How is everyone doing? I Got out of surgery 3pm. My surgeon found a hiatal hernia and repaired it while doing my sleeve. Had some nausea and dry heaves right after, but gone now. Waiting to have sleeve leak test this morning and if all goes well, be discharged today. Am walking, and sip, sip, siping and happy to be on the losers bench at last. -

Checked into hotel and going to see the movie "Wild" for some distraction to calm the nerves. Checking into Swedish Edmonds at 8am! Wishing everyone all the best tomorrow! -
Keep waiting for the shoe to drop...

Thank you all for posting, it is reassuring. My surgery is Monday and have been bracing myself mentally for possible problems...they could happen, but it nice to think it will go really well also. -

I use MyFitness Pal for tracking food/exercise and find it very handy. -
I'm having the same pre-op diet nausea problem (day 4 now). Talked to Dr. office about the nausea today and they suggested taking an acid blocker to see if that helps, and if not they will prescribe an anti-nausea med. The nurse said that especially if you suffer from GERD, your stomach could be producing too much acid for the minimal amount of food you are taking in, so your stomach is irritated. I took a prilosec about an hour ago and feel a little better, though still queasy.

Liquid Diet help!
Catcutie replied to gettinghealthymom1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just keep thinking that this is shrinking my liver and will help my surgeon preform a successful surgery with minimal complications and that this is only for a very short time in the scheme of things. Plus it's a head start on all the weight I need to lose. It's tough, I know. Hang in there! You can do it and in a few days your hunger will be more manageable (and it helps to avoid food situations if at all possible - easy to say, hard to do with Christmas this week). -
The Miracle whey I got from Mercola tastes awful to me, but the Premier Protein drink is decent, though almost too sweet. Talked to Dr. office about the nausea today and they suggested taking an acid blocker to see if that helps, and if not they will prescribe an anti-nausea med.

Today is my second day of pre-op high-protein liquid diet. First day went okay but today by second protein drink (20 g) began to feel very nauseous. Had third protein drink this evening and nausea came back even worse and not hungry at all. Has anyone else felt nauseous doing the pre-op protein liquid diet?

Struggling with nausea on my pre-op liquid Protein diet (have had Protein shakes before without this side effect). Dr. office said it could be too much acid build up (been struggling with GERD this past year) and to try an acid blocker, and it that doesn't work they will prescribe something for the nausea. Just took a prilosec and waiting to see if that helps. The good news is that the nausea is killing my appetite! Hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas despite the limited diet so many of us are undergoing this last week before surgery! -
Thanks Elode. I split my Protein serving in half, with more Water and didn't take Multivitamin. It seems to have helped - still queasy but nothing like yesterday.

My surgery is on 12/29 also and am excited and nervous. Yesterday was first day of 10-day pre-op diet of Protein shakes (using Mercola's Miracle whey - taste is yucky, but no artificial sweeteners). Feeling hungry and tired, but can't sleep, hence this 2 am post. Pre-op diet requires getting in at least 80 grams of protein daily, but cannot exceed 870 calories a day. Like some of the others who have posted here, my surgery location is 3 hours from home, so have been coming to this site for information and experiences. It has been so helpful to read the posts on here.
