How long did you have between ins approv. and surgery?
majorsmama replied to SarahLovy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was approved 7 weeks ago and my surgery is the 29th. My surgeons office may do it different but I needed to get approval from insurance before they had me do all the pre-op testing and get PCP clearance. Unfortunately, it took me over 3 weeks to get in to see my PCP. -
I had to get PCP clearance but my PCP and surgeon didn't care when it was. I had to get a chest xray, ekg and bloodwork and take it all to my PCP to review and then she sent a letter to my surgeon. My surgeon wouldn't even schedule my surgery without the letter so it would have been impossible for me to get it 10 days prior to surgery. I hope you can get it worked out!

I'm on a clear liquid diet as well. This week hasn't been too hard because I worked all week and had distractions. Now it's the weekend and I'm going to be home all day and I'm worried it'll be harder. I agree the headache the first couple of days was awful but it's gotten better each day.

Protein Shakes Question-Pre-Surgery Liquid Diet
majorsmama replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There shouldn't really be a calorie goal on the liquid stage. It should really be more about protein and water. I use Syntrax also and it was on the list of recommended protein powders. My nutritionist has mentioned nothing about calorie intake. You can also add calories by drinking broth and having popsicles and jello. -
Ideas for soft food phase....

I'm still pre-op but I've seen a lot of people say that refried beans with cheese and ricotta bake were some favorites. Also, tuna salad and eggs. -
Waiting on approval from Aetna

Mine took 2 days with Aetna. It was crazy fast. -
Pre op diet. Some one help me with this question!
majorsmama replied to nisey2800's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm jealous of you ladies who get to eat actual food! I'm on my pre-op and it's all liquid. -
I have a 5 year old who says mean things sometimes. They don't mean it to hurt us, they just don't have that ability to think before they speak yet. My son tells me my tummy is big all the time. I've just learned to laugh about it. I can't wait to lose this weight and have my son be proud of me.

You'll really have to try them out yourself to see what you like. For example, so many people love Premier Protein and I think they taste like butthole. My fave is Syntrax Nectar because they come in all kinds of yummy fruit flavors.
-
They do them to check for hernias, issues with the esophagus and h-pylori if I remember correctly. It was a piece of cake and I had no side effects afterwards.
-
Day 2 my headache was a lot less severe. By day 3, it was pretty much gone. Hang in there, it gets better.
-
No suggestions but I'm so sorry about your sons death.

Protein Shakes and samples
majorsmama replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Syntrax Nectar protein powders come in fruit flavors that are way better than any chocolate or vanilla flavors and way tastier than those nasty Premier Protein shakes so many people drink. The fuzzy navel and roadside lemonade are my favorites. Mix with water and serve over ice. They're amazing. You can go on Syntrax's website to get their phone number and call for free samples. -
I have Aetna but not an H.M.O. I had to do 90 days of medically supervised weight loss which I did at my surgeons office, with their nutritionist. Once I had completed the 90 days, a psych eval, and EGD my insurance submitted my claim and it was approved by Aetna within 2 days. My surgery is July 29th.

Do you like drinking broth better? Maybe you can buy an unflavored protein powder and add some to your broth to get protein that way.

Protein Shake Questions
majorsmama replied to MOMMY2MGM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am a Syntrax Nectar fan. The fuzzy navel is like a light refreshing orange julius. It's fantastic mixed with water and served over ice. I also have the wild cherry, apple ecstasy and roadside lemonade flavors. They all taste a ton better than any chocolate or vanilla powder I've used. I recommend them to everyone I encounter. They're amazing. And you can call them and they'll send you free samples. Their number is on their website. -
Anyone start pre-op diet early?
majorsmama replied to PureDarkness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have warned my husband that I will most likely be a beast for 2 weeks or longer. It's totally natural to be grumpy and irritable on a diet as strict as this. -
.... and the door slammed shut!

Do you have a 401k you can borrow from? If your debt to income ratio is too high, you will have trouble getting most types of financing. You may look into getting a private loan, such as lendingclub.com. If you are willing to collateralize your home and your credit is good, they are much more lenient with income and DTI ratios. Best of luck! -
Anyone start pre-op diet early?
majorsmama replied to PureDarkness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm supposed to start Wednesday but I'm thinking of starting Monday. I have a weigh-in at my final pre-op appt on Wednesday and I need to drop a couple lbs before then. ???? -
I plan to take as much time as my Dr will authorize. I'm guessing his max will be 4 weeks but don't think for one second I won't try to get a couple extra weeks out of him!

Has anyone used aetna for short term disability after surgery? I'm getting sleeved on 7/29 and have submitted my claim and am just looking for feedback on how they were to deal with. Were there any hassles along the way?

I'm pre Sleeve but this "?" is for post sleeve!
majorsmama replied to LittleMissCopular's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still pre-op but I have lost over 100 lbs twice in my life and I can tell you that you will get a ton more attention as an average sized person than you ever did as an overweight person. It's kinda sad really. Even women treated me better. People were nicer to me. And when I was single, dating was great as an average sized person. I'm married now but I am still totally looking forward to more attention from men lol. -
Newbie here... Um Hi! :)

Why did you give up meat? Post-op, meat will be the most important part of your diet! -
Low energy from pre op diet
majorsmama replied to Norma Galitzen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lucky for us, the sleeve doesn't cause dumping so you may be able to eat whatever it was again some day. Whether you should or not is another question. ???? A lot of times when you give up carbs, your body goes through the carb flu (Google it, it's a real thing) and headache and fatigue are both common. So if your new diet is low carb, that may be it.
