Will we ever be able to take vitamins and calcium that we can swallow?
majorsmama replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist insists on chewables and crushing pills but I couldn't do it anymore. The taste was awful. I start back to swallowing pills at about 2 weeks post-op. My surgeon was fine with it, he just told me not to tell the nutritionist lol. I did buy the petite version of the Calcium citrate. The petite are big enough, I'd hate to see what the regular ones look like. -
How much should I be eating?
majorsmama replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon wanted me eating 2oz (1/4 cup) of food, 3 times a day in addition to protein drinks. -
I was in and out in 24 hours. All I needed was my cell phone and charger. I wore home what I wore there.

3 days post op and hungry.
majorsmama replied to gymbremom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you sure the rumbling is actual hunger and not gas or reflux? I'm over 2 weeks post-op and have not had a single moment where I've been hungry. I think you should discuss this with your surgeon. -
What to pack for the hospital
majorsmama replied to thinkingthin15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I used was my phone charger. I wore the same clothes I wore to the hospital, home. I didn't need anything but my phone and charger. -
I'm averaging a pound lost per day since surgery. I had my 2 week post-op appt today and was down 25 lbs in 4 weeks. Since surgery 14 days ago, I have lost 13.8 lbs.

It really depends on the person. My c-section was brutal! However I had virtually no pain after my sleeve surgery, aside from some soreness at one incision sight. Vsg was a piece of cake compared to my c-section.

What's your vitamin of choice
majorsmama replied to dkrause's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bariatric Advantage chewables and they're awful. I'll be buying a capsule/tablet soon. -
How long was hospital stay?
majorsmama replied to tera1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery was at 2:30pm and was discharged at 2pm the next day. -
I am 5 days post-op and am able drink Water fairly normally. I mean, I can't chug it like I used to, but I'm definitely way beyond the sipping stage. From the moment I got to my hospital room, the nurses gave me a pitcher of water and a large cup from which to drink and never encouraged small sips. However, I'm seeing that some people that had surgery the same day as me or close to it, are still sipping out of medicine cups! I know everyone is different, so I am just doing what my body is allowing me to do with the water. Is there any harm to being able to drink fairly regularly at this stage?

I was sleeved on Wednesday the 29th and have had the most amazing and easy recovery. No gas pains at all, and only a little pain around my biggest incision which I only really feel when standing and sitting. I've had no nausea and have been able to drink Water with no problems since the night of surgery. It's been wonderful! Today (4 days post-op) is the first day I'm really eating anything. My surgeons instructions are to eat 2 oz of Soup, yogurt, pudding or cream of wheat 3 times a day. And to drink water and Protein shakes in between, to get the needed protein. After Breakfast (2 oz yogurt) and lunch (2 oz pudding) and my cup of decaf coffee with a splash of milk, my total calories added up to a whopping 87. ???? I am now drinking a Protein shake made with milk to add to my numbers, but dinner will be another 40 calories or so. By the end of the day, I will be lucky if I hit 400 calories. Nowhere in my literature from my surgeon does it mention a calorie goal. Does this low amount seem normal?

How soon did you start driving?
majorsmama replied to Hassan_AZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drove at 3 days post-op. -
I could sleep on either side at 2 days post-op. I had virtually no pain post-op.

9 days out, 8 oz of soup?
majorsmama replied to jademanke@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeons instructions are to only eat 2oz servings of soup, yogurt or pudding at a time. So I wouldn't even attempt 8oz personally. -

Did anyone fake their 6 months supervised weight loss?
majorsmama replied to stephyr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even if he did WW, he's still required to see his doctor monthly. The insurance will most likely want clinical notes. So it's not really possible to fake it. -
Hi Brandon! I was required to lose weight, but not a specific amount. I've lost 40 lbs since January and my surgery is Wednesday. Best of luck!

struggling with liquid diet (August 5th surgery)
majorsmama replied to lauren8486's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm finishing day 12 today and I haven't been perfect. Close, but not quite. On about day 4 or 5 I scarfed down 4 pcs of bacon. On day 10 I ate a mini cupcake. There were a couple of times I ate a round of Babybel light cheese. Today, on day 12, I ate 3 tater tots. It is what it is. I doubt those tiny indiscretions are going to prevent my liver from shrinking. I've lost 16lbs in 11 days. My surgeon told me that he knows not everyone follows the diet perfectly, with no cheats. We are human. This diet however, was not made to sustain humans lol. -
Cheated on liquid diet
majorsmama replied to jppaul16438's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm now on day 10 and it varies day to day. Some days aren't so bad. Some days I'm hungry and irritable. Well let's be real... I'm hungry EVERY day. But it is what it is. I want to have a safe surgery so although I had my one little cheat, I have to stick with it the next 4 days. -
Preop liquid diet
majorsmama replied to doubledinfla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah mine is 2 weeks of clear liquids only. I can have unlimited amounts of protein shakes made with water, broth, sf jello and sf popsicles. Nothing more. Today is day 9. It's awful. Does it get easier as time goes on? Yes. You do get used to starving. But I still fight every day not to grab a piece of cheese or a cracker. ???? -
Cheated on liquid diet
majorsmama replied to jppaul16438's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now I don't feel so bad about the 4 pcs of bacon I shoved in my face on day 3 of my pre-op. ???? The guilt was unbearable though and I haven't cheated since. -
struggling with liquid diet (August 5th surgery)
majorsmama replied to lauren8486's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's my hardest too cause I have to cook for my husband and son. On day 3 I found myself in the kitchen stuffing my face with pieces of bacon I had cooked up for my husband's blt. I felt horribly guilty afterwards and started panicking about my surgeon not performing the surgery. So trust me ladies, it's NOT worth it. Try your best to stick to the program. We are all in this together! -

We can't have fruits or juices or milk on the clear liquid diet. -
struggling with liquid diet (August 5th surgery)
majorsmama replied to lauren8486's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can relate completely. I'm on day 7 of my liquid diet and it's brutal. I drink the Syntrax Nectar proteins as well. They are great mixed with water and they are not thick and syrupy like the premade shakes. The fuzzy navel and chocolate torte are my favorites. They're light and watery which is what I needed because I hated the consistency and taste of the premier protein shakes I was drinking. -
My surgeon has told me that I need to be on Omeprazole (Prilosec) for a year post-op to promote the healing of my new stomach. From what I'm reading online, a lot of surgeons only have their patients take it for as little as 3 days, up to 3 months. I plan to follow my surgeons orders obviously, but just wanted to hear others experience. How long were you told to take it, if at all?
