  1. For those that say they can eat what they want when they want (with bypass) is it without getting sick? I ask because I'm trying to decide on which surgery and the my reason for leaning toward bypass is because I don't want to worry about regain in the future. I want to not be able to eat anything HOWEVER I do not want to feel sick or weak all the time. I would also like to eat certain foods from time to time in very small portion if I choose to. Do you feel your weight gain is from no reaction to certain foods when you eat or have you just learned to eat through the "pain"?

    No Complications

This post is funny! I was glad to read it though...I'm still in the pre op stage and trying to decide rather to go with the bypass or sleeve. I am apprehensive about the bypass because I'm afraid of the unknown...for some reason I just picture myself being a bloated nauseous mess most of the time...I know that is probably far from the reality but that's what I associate the rerouting with. Reading you all's stories gives me hope that I can possibly have this surgery and not feel "sick" for the rest of my life. Did any of you feel that way when you were trying to decide? And what made you go with the bypass over the sleeve? Do you feel nauseous or sick a lot or is this just in my head lol! Do any of you wish you would have had the sleeve instead?

    Oklahoma (tulsa area)

Hello. I am also going through Bailey Medical Center in Owasso where I live. I've just started the process but am hoping to complete everything and have surgery in May. I was first very set on the sleeve but have since started looking into the bypass. I plan on attending the meeting in March and hopefully can learn more about others experiences with either of them. Dr. Varnell is my surgeon and I'm pretty excited to get all this done. It would be nice to connect with anyone on the same time line as me...I don't know anyone who has had the surgery so it's so hard to talk to friends or family when I have questions ☺
  7. So I'm starting to worry about getting my appointments scheduled in a timely manner. I'm in the beginning stage of the process and told myself I was not got going to worry and just go with the flow...well...yeah right! I have Aetna and have a 3 month process to complete for insurance purposes. I'm sure we are all familiar with the process...well I'm worried because I've had my initial consultation which counts as month one visit/weigh in with the surgeon. That was on Jan. 20th. I was told I would be contacted by the navigator to schedule everything else. I decided since I had not heard anything yet, that I'd contact him myself. Well he claims has not gotten any "paperwork" from my surgeon and can't move forward until then...hmmm! So I'm not sure about how this whole process should go but I'm worried I won't be able to get all my NUT visits, exercise visits and other appointments done within the time line required by insurance. Sorry this is so long but I don't know how all this should flow and I'd hate to miss something during this 3 months and end up getting denied in the end. I plan on having surgery at the end of May. Does anyone know what Aetna requires for appointment scheduling? Or can offer me a time line of visits that insurance will approve of? Sorry if my post is long and confusing but I feel lost lol!

    Scheduling/appointment worries

Thank you all for the advice! I had to do a pushing but I got the ball rolling and all my appointments are booked! Now I'm just waiting to complete them all and hopefully have surgery in May!!

    Scheduling/appointment worries

Thanks!! I did check to see if I could schedule everything myself but they said I couldn't...that they would contact me to get that done. Hopefully someone will do that soon otherwise I may not get these visits scheduled. I'm mainly concerned with the NUT visits as I'm unsure how many insurance requires you to have. Well good luck to you...looks like we on the same time line. When are you hoping to get surgery. I'm hoping for end of May.

    And my journey begins....

I feel the same way! I've just begun my process as well. Had my first appointment with the surgeon on Jan. 20th. I have a 90 day process to complete for insurance. I'm beyond excited, I feel like this is going to change my life for sure! It's hard to share my excitement and emotions with friends and family because they don't understand. When do you plan to have surgery...we may be close. It would be nice to follow each other, I'm having a hard time finding people just starting out on here ????
  11. You look great!! We have the same body type...I'm also 5'7. I'm just starting the process at 308. My problem area is my stomach, I carry most of my weight there...did find that your stomach went down as you lost weight? It is so hard picturing myself after I lose the weight...but seeing your pic gives me hope ????

    Anxious! (rant)

I understand your excitement!! I'm very early in the process...still have 3 months to go ???? I'm sure it's very exciting to be where your at and I'm sure time will fly by and your surgery day will be here before you know it!

    Newbie

Hello all! I just wanted to introduce myself. I am new to this site and in the beginning stage of my wls journey. I'm a 34 year old Special Ed. Teacher and live in Owasso Ok. I'm married and have 7 children. I have struggled with my weight since the birth of my first child 15 years ago. I have contemplated wls for many years but just recently decided that it was a must for me. I have my 1st appointment with my surgeon on Jan. 20th and will complete the 3 month program per insurance requirement. Since I am off in the summer I'm hoping to have everything complete and approved for an end of May surgery date. I'm really hoping to gain a lot of information from everyone's experience and am looking forward to sharing my journey with you all as well
