A Journey To Better Health
Martene81 replied to SalOdyssey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow what an awesome accomplishment...keep it up! -
What a disaster! I really thought that it would be a breeze but just I learned how out of shape I really am! My vitals seemed to be all over the place and my pressure was through the roof. I haven't gotten results but I'm almost positive I won't get clearance after that!

@@MrsB2007 So glad I wasn't the only one who struggled through that lol! Good news though...all was good with the test! No one ever called me but they uploaded the report to my electronic chart and I saw it there. I am so glad...thanks everyone for keeping me calm

This is awsome! I'm diabetic as well and trying to decide between RNY and VSG. Because I diebetes everyone is suggesting RNY but if I can eliminate my diabetes issues with VSG than I definitely want to consider it. Good for you!

@@BryBro63 thanks!! The more I research the more I'm learning it is possible to be very successful with the sleeve. I understand totally that it is a tool and that if I work it, it will have no choice in the matter...the results for the most part are up to me. I just need to put a lil more confidence in myself rather than the tool it self. I definitely keep you posted ???? @@BryBro63 thanks!! Thanks! I'm going to assume things were ok because if not hopefully somebody would be getting me some medical attention by now lol. All I have left to do to is my EGD and last NUT and weigh in on the 23rd then they submit to insurance. I'm still trying to decide on which surgery though...such a hard decision!

Am I going through STARVATION MODE?!
Martene81 replied to x0CheekzVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@0CheekzVSG I have not had surgery yet but had this same concern so I'd like to follow to see how others deal with it. I'm also following your journey on YouTube...best of luck to you!! -
African American vsgers!
Martene81 replied to theshrinkingdutchess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not sure if I posted here yet but I'm pre op and still trying to decide between RNY or VSG. I'm currently 5'7 and 308 pounds and not sure I can lose as much as I need to with VSG?. Is there anyone who was as big as me and successfully got to 150 or so? If so how long did it take to reach goal? How do you feel overall day to day...any heart burn issues, nausea etc. Any thoughts would help...I'm having a horrible time trying to decide and my last appointment is April 23rd. Hoping for end of May surgery since I'm a Teacher and off in the summers so I have a lil more time to decide, I just want to make the best choice. -
So it's been a few days since I completed the stress test...the nurse said no news is good news and I have yet to hear from anyone. How long does it take for the results? Should I call them or just wait to hear if I've been cleared? I've also had my pulmonary test and sleep study already and never heard back should I assume all these were ok?

May Sleevers...where are you?
Martene81 replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If all goes well with my cardiac testing then I will be joining you all! Hoping for May 19th! -
Thanks! I know it's necessary but I've had so many surgeries most recent only 8 months ago (c section) so i feel like i can handle it, but we shall see ????
-
Thanks for the responses. I have a 2 part test so I have to go back tomorrow to finish the rest. I had no caffeine and I'm on BP meds but couldn't take any meds before the test. I'm just not going to worry too much about it. I'll just be super disappointed if they don't clear me for surgery because most of my issues are due to my weight and if that little bit of "exercise" causes me so much exertion then I don't see how I'll ever get the weight off *sigh*

@@Janna337660 congrats on the upcoming surgery! I would definitely like to keep in touch...any advice I can get is well appreciated! The decision on which surgery to have has been very hard but I know I'll eventually have to decide ????

a little about me. Newbie with no surgery date (yet!)
Martene81 replied to rnsamantha's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello and welcome! I'm new in my journey as well. I'm a 34 year old mother of 4 but raise 7 all together. I'm a married Teacher who gained most my weight after having my 4 kids. I'm apprehensive about surgery as well but know it is best in the end. I'm off during the summer so I'm hoping for an end of May surgery. Hopefully all goes well with you and your surgery....blessings to you and your decision to take this important step in your life! -
My "last" 3 month visit is April 23rd. I guess things will be sent off to insurance after that. I'm hoping things move quickly after that...I have Aetna so not sure how they are with approvals. Still undecided about which surgery though, I think that has been the worst part of this whole process lol!

@@shonne17 hello and welcome! I can not say for sure about the deductible because I have not had surgery yet. But I'm pretty sure if you have an out of pocket amount left at the time of surgery then that is to be paid before they will do surgery. @@Cota1262 how are you feeling?? I had appointment with Dr. Kirk today...I'm moving right along in the process. Still trying to decide between vsg or rny. -
Pain Ranking: C-Section vs. Sleeve
Martene81 replied to Garifab_VSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good question!! I have not had wls yet but I've had 4 c sections and was wanting to know the pain comparison between the two. My c sections were painful but not overwhelmingly so. The biggest issue I had was constipation. I keep trying to relive my c section pain (which I had 8 months ago) so I can be mentally prepared for wls pain. I imagine the pain will be about the same...I have a high pain tolerance so I'm sure that will help. I'm hoping for a May surgery so its coming up pretty quickly and if it actually is about the same as my c section I should be ok ???? -

Getting Started! Insurance Requirements for Surgery...
Martene81 replied to Jennifer2322's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really don't see how WW would be accepted as medically supervised seeing how there is no medical professional supervising you. What insurance do you have? Maybe they meant that they would accept WW as a "documented weight loss attempt" which most insurances require and want notated somewhere in your history. As far as the medically supervised diet required prior to surgery; it has to be overseen by a Dr and is usually 3 or 6 months sometimes 12. I would just go to either your pcp or a multidisciplinary Bariatric team to oversee your diet to avoid being disappointed in the end. -
Anyone have a sleeve fail and did bypass? HELP
Martene81 replied to peacheeie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the pre op stage so I can't offer any help but I'd like to follow the thread because I'm trying to decide between the sleeve or bypass. I've heard a lot more people talk about little or no restrictions with the sleeve so for that reason am leaning more towards bypass so I don't have to go through another surgery in the future. hopefully someone can offer some advice on how to help so you don't have to go through another surgery. -
@@Peace Love & Sleeve I am so sorry that you are not feeling well. Have you talked to the doctor about how you are feeling? I have not had surgery yet so I have no idea how you should be feeling at 6 weeks out...what is a kink, can they fix it so you can get to feeling better?
-
Thank you for the responses! I will definitely keep posting to let you all know what I decide. It has been really helpful reading other experiences because I don't know anyone who has had either surgery. hopefully I can keep up with you ladies because I could sure use the laughs through the rest of this process ????
