    Progress so far! (Pics)

@@IttyBit thanks! I actually don't weigh everyday, maybe 2 or 3 times a week...bad I know lol. I told myself I was going to weigh either once a week or every other. I haven't incorporated exercise into my day to day just yet so I'm sure once I start working out on a regular basis my weight loss will pick up.

    Progress so far! (Pics)

The dreaded back fat haha! Well I hate all fat and can't wait until I can post a pic at goal! I'm actually feeling great! I had been a little down because I've had some stalls and things are moving slow but I'm ok with it...I'm taking one day at a time. The weight will eventually come off. I hate looking at these pics and can't believe I posted them but they help me keep things in perspective and the more I look at them the more it motivates me to keep at it lol!

    3-Month PostOp Follow Up

Congrats!! I bet it was such a relief to know you're doing great and right on track!
  6. Congrats on the start of your journey!! I had bypass surgery on May 27th and I'm doing great! I'm not on here much but it is an awesome place to find support and great info! Good luck to you!

    No Complications

I'm almost 3 weeks post op and doing great! No complications so far. My pain is finally gone and I'm down 18 pounds since surgery!
  8. @@RNYGal I'm 17 days post op and same thing happened to me around day 8. I also started my menstrual cycle so that even had me going up on the scale. I'm only down 13 pounds since the surgery and although I wish it was more I'm fine with it. The weight will come off so don't worry yourself. I actually don't really weigh myself much anymore because the up and down or no loss at all bothered me at first. This is a process and our bodies need to adjust and that may mean slower weight loss for some. I'm still trying to get a good grip on my fluid, protein and vitamin regimen...so for now thats my focus. I figure once I start exercising I'll see more results on the scale. We have a long journey ahead and it's only the beginning so no worries it'll get moving again ????

    New to this

I've already had my surgery on 5/27 but I'm sure there are many with upcoming dates close to yours. I was a little afraid at first too and didn't have anyone to go through the process with. You'll find great support on this site, lots of great info and advice. My RNY procedure went great im newly post op but I'm feeling good. Good luck to you!

    Gastric bypass

That's awesome you're doing better! I had bypass on 5/27 and Protein shakes and Water have been an issue for me. Instead of getting overly frustrated I decided to just do what I can so I mix my pre made shakes with some ice and hazelnut flavoring and I found a 15 calorie lemonade drink made by minute made that I mix with ice and just drink that as my liquid intake. I know it's not exactly what the plan says but it beats nothing at all which is what I was taking in at first lol. I'm like you, I know God is helping me through this so even when things seem a little uneasy I'm not bothered by it because I know what the end result is...blessings to you!
  12. Congrats @ I hope you hear good news soon and I'm sure you'll be very pleased with your decision for bypass ????
  13. I was in the same boat as you when I first started, I thought I wanted the sleeve but after a little more digging and reading people's (long term) journey with the sleeve, I knew bypass would be best. I am now almost 2 weeks post op with bypass and so glad I made my choice. I've had zero complications no nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea nothing! I have NO issues with any foods I've tried so far which hasn't been much but I can tell I'll be one who can tolerate pretty much anything. I know if I had the sleeve I'd be like so many (not all) on here that have issues with weight gain, because I can see how the head hunger will get you even after surgery and if my pouch was the size of a sleever I could definitely see how most either stop losing after 5-6 months or slowly gain weight back. I would continue doing your research and ask your doctor, ALL of mine encouraged bypass. Just do what you think is best for you. You know your eating habits and patterns better than anyone. Oh and I'm a Teacher so I'm off for the summer but if I wasn't I'd need at least 2-3 weeks unless it was a desk job.

    African American RNY Sisters

I couldn't imagine doing liquids for 6 weeks! Hats off to you hun! I did have 2 week pre op liquid diet so maybe that's the difference like @@caligul said. I do know that those who were sleeved have to do an extra week of liquids in my program...but seems like everyone's requirements will be a little different.

@@Cupcake yea I'm about 10 days out and my Bariatric practice moves us to puree/soft foods on day 7. I haven't tried nearly everything on the list but what I have tried has gone down with no issues. The only thing that I don't tolerate much is water and protein shakes. Even with the foods I do eat, I actually feel like I'm not eating or drinking nearly as much as I should lol. I'm afraid I'm not getting in the protein I need so I eat the tuna, salmon and eggs. I try and mix my protien shake with ice and Torani hazelnut flavoring and it has helped some. I also found a 15 calorie lemonade drink by minute made to help stay hydrated and switch between that and water. I'm interested in everyone else's timeline, what week do you all move to soft food stage?? Also what is everyone drinking besides water...water used to be my best friend so it is actually the ONLY thing I miss pre surgery.

@@caligul I had the same horrible left side pain and still do so you are not alone. Mine felt like something was stabbing me in my rib cage. I'm 10 days out and it has gotten better but it is still very painful. My Dr says it's normal and that it will take some time to heal since that is the side they did all the work. How is everything else? Hope it gets better for you!
  17. So I know a lot people gain weight in the hospital like I did...my question is do you factor that weight in your weekly weight loss?? I gained a whopping 8 pounds while in the hospital but has since lost it of course. I'm 1 week out today and counting those 8 pounds I'm down a total of 16, and without those added pounds I'm down 8! I'm not a stickler for numbers at all, I do however want to track my weekly progress so wasn't sure if I just omit those 16 or what anywhoo...I'm pleased with the first week and hope to keep rockin this thing!!

I am a big fat phony failure

I'm newly post op so I haven't had to deal with running into people and having them ask questions about my weight loss but if I did I guess I'm one who doesn't care about sharing what I did to lose weight. Now don't get me wrong I absolutely feel like it's nobody's business that you've had ANY kind of surgery but generally when people are complementing on how well you look and asking what you did, it's usually for informational purposes...well for me it is, I always wanted to know people's tips and ideas on how to lose weight when I saw they had loss a good amount. So in that situation I would feel horrible about lying about my surgery and giving tips and tricks that yes I do but let's face it is not the only thing that led to my weight loss. So when people ask I'll just be honest, nothing to be ashamed of. The only thing that I'd be ashamed of is telling one set of ppl something and another set something different then you gotta remember if you told these ppl or oh shoot does he/she talk to this person....way too much! Be proud of your accomplishment no matter what steps you take to get there and don't be afraid to share it ????
  19. @@nancynew I am so sorry you are dealing with issues but I will say this to shall pass! Just hang in there and I'm sure things will continue to get better. It is perfectly normal to feel a lil regret under the circumstances I'm sure we all have at some point. As far as protien I'm in the same boat, water and protein shakes are not cutting it for me so I know I'm lacking in that area. Hopefully we can figure that out soon ????

@@MochaGyrl I'm doing good with puree probably too good lol! My stomach has tolerated everything so far, I don't even get a signal that I'm full which is scary. I have not tried much but I've eaten a scrambled egg, deviled egg, tuna with cracker and I made my family some meat loaf and had that and everything went down perfectly. The only thing I do notice I have issues with is liquid. I've only had water and have tried my protien shakes and after I drink the shakes my stomach gets gassy so I end up drinking and ounce or two at the most. I do try and eat a jello and have a sugar free popsicle but I know I'm not drinking or eating as much as I should. I'm not concerned too much about food because it seems as though I can tolerate more than I should, but I'd like to do better with fluid intake. I'm actually one week out today and am down 8 pounds since surgery, 16 counting what I gained in the hospital and 31 from my starting weight. I'm pleased with whatever I lose even if its only a pound...just glad to see progress ????
  21. Martene81

    Weight gain in hospital?

Ok thanks!! yea I figured using that wouldn't serve much of a purpose. I'm just glad to see some progress I'm actually down 31 pounds from my starting weight and that's more than I've ever lost in life lol.

    Any teachers in here?!?

@@myjourneyagain I'm actually doing really well. If I didn't still have pain I'd be doing great! I'm still trying to get a good routine of getting my fluids and protein in but I'm just not hungry or thirsty at all ever so hopefully I'll do better with that in the coming weeks. Good luck to you!!
  23. Martene81

    Any teachers in here?!?

I'm a Teacher and my last day of work was May 26th and my surgery was the 27th! I had RNY and am glad I'll have all summer to recover but if I didn't have that option I'd probably schedule for Christmas break and take an additional 10 days either before or after that giving you a little over 3 weeks to recover. I think the people who say they are back to work after day 6 of surgery are those who work in an office setting that don't deal with people throughout the day. With the way I'm feeling I can't imagine returning back to school dealing with kids, parents and Teachers all day. I'm not sure what you teach I'm a Special Ed Resource Teacher so my days are a little more laid back but even still, I'd want as many days as possible....good luck!

    ER Visit - TMI

Sorry you are going through this and thank goodness it is not anything serious. I did remember seeing one of your other posts where you recently said you ate 2 hotdogs...maybe that along with other things you are eating is giving you some trouble. Maybe you can retrace your eating and see if avoiding certain foods will keep this from happening again. Good luck!

    Day 1 Postop

Congrats on your surgery!! I had bypass on 5/27 and am doing great but I still feel like someone is stabbing me with a knife in my left side ???? and I don't think it's gas. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
