Average surgery time
PaulaleeB replied to DevilAngela13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had a drain at all. I assume a leak test happened while I was under. I am 20days post op and it has been a very easy recovery. -
I spoke with a sleeve veteran of over 3yrs at a support meeting. She said when she hits a stall she goes on what she called the 5:2 . Two days a week she she goes back to high protein and only 500 calories. The other 5days she eats between 700- 800 calories and eats as much no processed food as possible. She says that always kicks her metabolism into gear again.

Carolvalen, Congratulations you have experienced your first major trial to your post sleeve experience. As a result of your choices you feel like poop physically and emotionally . BUT, more importantly you are facing this blip in your program with an eye to the future and a clear understanding that you want to make changes and getting back on track. The blip I feel is inevitable on our wt loss journey, but how you choose to face it and get past it determines your success in the future. You may want to go back and write down all the reasons why you wanted and needed your surgery. Keep the list with you so when your cravings hit, pull out your list and read it. This has helped me. The other thing I want you to do is talk to yourself out loud as if you were talking to a dear friend who has gone through what you have. My guess is you will talk to this friend without shame and blaming and failure. You will be encouraging and compassionate. Don't you think you will benefit more from a place of positive self talk? You are not ready to throw in the towel, so pick your fabulous self up, dust off yourself and make the choices you know how to make.. Welcome back on track. Onward on your journey to health. Enjoy your new day. Paula

My first "hankering" was for shrimp. I'm on mushy, chew like there's no tomorrow, soft foods. So last night I ate 4-5 med sized boiled shrimp. They were wonderful and not painful.

My surgery was 2&1/2 hrs long. Is your doc going to repair a hernia? Was it the doc who told you 5hrs? -

Dec 29th sleevers ?
PaulaleeB replied to aHealthierMe121714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I understand your next Dr. appointment isn't until Feb. I think you might want to call his/her office and let them know your symptoms. Then they can give you a sooner appointment or give you some helpful info over the phone. Let them know what is going on. -

January 2015 Buddy Group anyone?
PaulaleeB replied to time for june's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey ms nicnic, those were my exact times for check in and surgery. I had such an easy time of it. No nausea, gas or real pain. So I am sending you my good karma and hoping your surgery and post surgery go like mine. I'm passing it on to you. Oh and I'm a big baby when it comes to pain etc so it really was easy. I am going on my second wk post op and getting into the groove regarding how all this works. I've even started walking. Enough about me-this is about you and how smoothly it will be for you. I'm holding your hand long distance and will have you in my heart tomorrow. Be we'll. Paula -
January 2015 Buddy Group anyone?
PaulaleeB replied to time for june's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To be a Healthy mama -of course you are terrified about ending your love affair with food. I felt exactly the same way. Food has been a source of comfort, pleasure, and for me (embarrassingly) a recreational past time. I shared these feelings with my best friend the night before surgery. She said "think of your relationship w/food like a relationship with a toxic boyfriend. Sure on the surface he is fun, but time after time he lets you down, the fun is short lived, and in the end he makes your life miserable. ". I don't know why that perspective helped me, but it did. Time for a change. New friends, new life, new you!!!good luck and welcome to the sleevers!! -
What to expect right after surgery?
PaulaleeB replied to JerseyJules's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a certified big baby, afraid of pain and nausea. But. I had virtually no pain. I had a slight headache and the nurse gave me IV Tylenol w/codeine . I have. NO memory of recovery rm. but when I was moved to my room I was awakened to go to rest room. My largest incision was very sore when I moved I held my hand over it. I didn't vomit, feel nauseous , or experience any real pain. I was up and walking to bathroom every 2hrs and had ice chips and water toward the end of my stay. I was released within23 hrs of surgery. My husband drove me home 2hrs away and as was suggested I had a pillow to hold over my incision and a quilt for warmth SO I am sending you my good karma for your surgery. Think of me and assure yourself that surgery will be the same for you. It was far less painful than having wisdom teeth taken out. I'm 12days post and doing great. My incision is still a tiny bit sore but hardly worth mentioning. My hardest part is staying off the scale and drinking enough h2o. Be well and breathe in my positive energy. Paula -
Ok. That's it. Next year when I'm down about 100lbs in my newly sleeved body I'm inviting all you fun loving flouncers to my place in La Quinta, CA . (20 min. S of Palm Springs) bring your high heels, cute flats, sense of humor, wacky spirit and anything else you may need to flounce around. We can hold a flounce-a-thon, a flounce-a-Rama, and what ever else sounds like fun. Mark your calendars. No haters or Debbie downers admitted. I better go drink some Protein, I've been on a rave......

That article on the stall was fabulous. I needed to read this thread and I haven't stalled yet. It's as though MY old mind says " i've undergone the surgery, I've given up over eating , eating everything I want, when I want, and now I have to pay attention to every sip of Water and gram of Protein. SO I DESRVE to consistently loose weight". How ridiculous is my thought process? Almost too embarrassing to even admit to it. I hope if you are still in a stall you can give yourself a break and let your body find it's equilibrium. We are all in this together.

January 2015 Buddy Group anyone?
PaulaleeB replied to time for june's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm newly sleeved. Not even one week out. I'm in La Quinta -close to Palm Springs . Though you wouldn't know it 'cause it's mighty cold these days. -
I am post surgery 2days. I am a big wimp when it comes to pain. But this surgery has gone surprisingly well. Only used pain meds twice so far. I too was scared to death. It is difficult to get down to get down all the liquids, but I'm sure it will get easier. I'm walking around the house 1x per hour. I am using Gas X strips and the gas isn't bad at all. I really need to slow and reduce the amount I sip and I think that will help. Remember you are stronger and more brave that you know. Keep posting!Paula

Any December 30th Sleevers ?!
PaulaleeB replied to hootney1214's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had surgery on the 30th. I had excellent care and other than soreness at the largest incision site things are going well. My stomach hurts after very little to drink or eat (yogurt only). But that is to be expected. After all my preparation and apprehension I'm starting my new journey. -
Who is pre-op and who is post op?
PaulaleeB replied to WeeWers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Two days post -op. Challenging getting in all the fluids. But I know it will get easier. I have chosen not to get on the scale for a while at least. Not much pain or nausea, just really tired. I want to start my protein but it all makes me gag. Any ideas? Hope you are all doing well in2015. -

Drinking broth and hoping for a relatively painless recovery. Dec. 30 sleeve seems like a dream after all these months of insurance, doctors, evaluations and mind prep. I'm as ready as I can be. Here I go. -
I'm going in on Tuesday for my sleeve. I don't know if you have had any replies from people that are Muslims. I just wanted to wish you we'll and I don't want you to feel alone. Paula
