    Protein drinks

Has anyone used Nu Whey liquid protein shots? I just had these recommended to me but wondering if anyone has experience with it before I sink anymore money into protein drinks. I'm 4 weeks post RNY and still struggle to get all 60 grams daily protein and my blended foods 3-4 times daily.
  2. I'm 3 weeks post op today and have not had one regret thus far!! It's a different way of living but I think everything is better, especially as clothes that I outgrew are starting to fit again! I'm grateful for this opportunity that I've been given to renew my life!! It's also awesome how much more time I have since I'm don't have much cooking to do!
  3. NurseRosemary I am using My Fitness Pal to track my calories and protien. It's a lifesaver for sure. I am not diabetic but definitely had times when my blood sugar was too low. Keep at it...you'll find your balance! And tell your surgeon not to scold you! You need advice and that's why you pay them. You got this!!

    Smaller jeans already!

Thank you friends! MisR I have hard the hardest time with the protein shakes. I've tried several. I don't know where you live but Lucerne (I bought at Safeway) has single sized protein shakes in their milk case. The light version is 180 calories and 21 grams of protein. My nutritionist told me about them. They have 20 grams of sugar so I dilute them half and half. Full strength may be too much. They don't have that medicine/protein taste so I've been on those the last few days and can get them down a lot easier. I'll keep them on hand for quick grab and go nutrition. Hang in there!!

    Dec. 15th anyone?

Congratulations to all of you who have taken this big step to health! Hugs!
  6. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I need to do laundry. No clean clothes so I went to my closet to try on a pair of jeans I've had for a year and they didn't even fit over my hips. Today when I put then on they were loose! I was so happy and amazed! I'm not going to lie...I cried a little. I'm 20 days post op and planning my pureed foods menu that begins tomorrow (I can't wait!) I was feeling a bit discouraged for a couple of days, thinking how could I not lose any weight since I can't eat anything but 600 calories and 60 grams of protein each day. But this morning I got the prize! Fitting into smaller clothes. Eyes on the prize!!!
  7. One thing I didn't see mentioned here, and don't know if this is an issue for you, is not to drink and eat at the same time. If you drink after you eat, it will push the food through your pouch too quickly and leave it empty which could make you hungry again. It's hard for me to think about not drinking anything with my meal!

    Dec. 15th anyone?

I'm 20 days post surgery and what I know for sure is I really don't like the Unjury protein powders!! If I have to drink one more I might throw up! The chicken soup tastes ok but you cannot make it anywhere near hot because the powder clumps up and gets pasty. I've tried every way I can think of to prepare it but if it gets much warmer than room temp, it will clump and get pasty. You make it at room temp or a little warmer but it takes so long to drink it that it gets nasty and cold very quickly. Definitely avoid it.

    Just Me

  10. I am supposed to get 60 grams protein and 600 calories. I can get 50-60 grams of protein and between 550-600 calories daily all in thr form of protein shakes. I know it's still early and I should be more patient. :-) I will be 3 weeks post op dat after tomorrow, at which time I will be on pureed foods. I'm hoping that will give me more energy. I'm getting plenty of rest and allowing for a good recovery. I just didn't expect to plateau so quickly.

    Post-Op Fatigue

I agree with the others. At 20 days post op, sitting is difficult for me still, even though I feel great.
  12. This is good to know! I have 2 days left on my 21 days of liquid only portion of the post op plan and the Protein drinks are so disgusting at this point! I've tried a variety of them as well. I'm going to look for this to keep on hand. Thank you!
  13. I have PCOS from steroid use (I am a severe asthmatic). Steroids saved my life and made it so I can breathe but gave me a lot of other problems. I haven't remembered to ask but since this surgery (RNY) resets the metabolism, does that mean my ovaries could heal? Anyone have experience with that?
  14. I'm so glad I came across this thread. I am nearly at week 3 (19 days post op) and still on liquids. Getting my required 60 g protein and 60-80 oz fluids, and it's all a lot of work! When I finally started losing weight it was at the rate of about 2 pounds each day. But for 2 days I haven't lost anything. It sounds like this is not a cause for concern? My 3 weeks is up this Tuesday but I don't see my surgeon for followup until Thursday so I will ask then. Interesting how everyone is different yet so many of us are the same.

    Low energy post-op

That's what I was thinking. I can be a little more patient! Thanks everyone! Very helpful.
