How do you relieve the too-full feeling?
LisaPunkinHead replied to ZoeyBear's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Weigh and measure -- forever. Also, slow down. Wait a minute between bites (from the time you swallow to the time you take the next bite). Chew thoroughly. Just go back to basics. 10 weeks post-op is not very long. I am almost four months out and I still weigh and measure. -
I just don't hit the "done" button -- I even pay for the premium service and it still says that, even though I have 800 set as my calorie goal.

Victoria's Secret is the best place for bras. They will measure you and bring you different styles.

Your Favorite Post-Op Go-to Foods
LisaPunkinHead replied to Garifab_VSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting -- I did a little research on the New Whey Protein. Reviews indicate that it is mostly collagen protein, which is incomplete and our bodies won't absorb as well as whey protein, which is complete (has all the amino acids). New Whey is a combination of whey, collagen and casein. The label says it's a complete source of protein, but how much I don't really know!! Emailing my NUT for her valued opinion. -
Your Favorite Post-Op Go-to Foods
LisaPunkinHead replied to Garifab_VSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I checked out the New whey Protein -- that looks interesting and I think it would be good to have in my purse for those busy days that tend to wind up low in protein. Also looks like it would be good in a smoothie. I can't do tuna. I don't know why -- it's the one food that makes me want to puke. I have tried it with both low fat and regular mayo, same result. My go-to is boneless/skinless chicken thighs. Hubby grills a bunch of them and I have one for lunch. I like the Quest bars in a pinch. I do fine with beef, which is great cuz hubby does amazing things on the grill with beef!! I have to make sure I weigh it out first, because I can overeat it and then the nose starts running, the hiccups start, and all that fun stuff. For quick dinners on the nights my husband is working and I fend for myself, I like the salmon burgers/patties from costco. I eat 3/4 of one and share the other 1/4 with my three dogs :-) Cheddar cheese -- the sharper, the better. Preop, my favorite, I'll-never-give-it-up food was Peanut Butter. My preop Breakfast was toast with peanut butter. Postop, I have zero taste for it. Go figure. -
Husband treats me like a child Re: food
LisaPunkinHead replied to rp1980's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe go over the postop written nutritional materials with him. My husband went with me to my pre-op classes so he understood the nutritional requirements and what to eat and what not to eat. So instead of being defensive and saying you can do it on your own (which to him will say "I don't need you"), maybe calmly go over it with him and let him know that cottage cheese has a lot of Protein and it is okay on your plan at the stage of your diet. Something like that. He's trying to help. -

That is a remarkable difference. I bet you feel better even this soon postop. Looks great! -
I love running -- you have to work up to it. Couch to 5K is a good running training plan. I also work with a personal trainer at my gym. He kicks my butt, but in the four weeks I have worked with him I have gotten twice as strong. He understands my surgery and some limitations that I have (bum knee and I get dizzy if I get up too fast) and works around them. Worth the $ I spend on it!

I have a Fitbit Flex and I don't use it. I track my intake on MyFitnessPal, and my exercise is running and circuit training, so it really doesn't work for those activities. It's more of a step tracker, and I don't find it to be very accurate at that! Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Almost cried at my doctors office
LisaPunkinHead replied to agalindo17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
scales do not measure anything more than the gravitational pull of our bodies to the earth. Sometimes that's different depending where we are or how the scales are calibrated. I weigh about 10 pounds less at my mom's house in Southern California, but she weighs the same at my house. It's time to stop judging ourselves by that number on the scale -- it's just a checkpoint, that's all!! -
Have any of you experienced becoming extremely cold natured since surgery?
LisaPunkinHead replied to shaunelysse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am always cold now. Better than the hot flashes I used to have, and the sweats I would break into just from going from a sitting to a standing position. We are losing insulation!!! -
Doc said 2 weeks off for me, but I worked from home at the time so I just rested with my laptop in my lap. Except for the post-op brain fog, I did fine!

I'm a size Medium? NO WAY!

Congratulations!!! That's definitely happy dance news!!! -
I have found that most of the foods I have felt deprived from make me sick anyhow. So no, I don't!! I'd rather eat healthy than puke!

H. Pylori is the bacteria that causes most ulcers. You don't want ulcers on that new tummy!!

That I have so much more time now that I don't spend every waking our thinking about what I am going to eat next. Like @@SeahawksFan said, I like structure.

So excited -- I can't remember how long it's been since I got on the scale and the first number was a 1. Except that one time 5 years ago when it was off balance, but I knew it was a mistake. And today I did a 30 minute run! First one since I blew my knee out a year ago (on a run...)! I will be ready for that 10-K in 3 months!!!

When I woke up from surgery, the first thing that came into my mind was "what the heck did I just do?" It gets better. Breathe, take care of YOU, and go along with the process. The first several weeks postop are hard because you are learning to do everything all over again. It will get better.

I think this calls for a chat with your NUT! Use the resources that are provided for you!

My answer to that, after looking said person up and down.... "no, I think I already am...." -
@@Bndtoslv, I am 53. I started running in January 2011 at 230 lbs (BMI about 36 I guess). Got down to 211 after training for and running a half marathon, but couldn't maintain that weight. Kept running just because I enjoy it. Last year tore my medial meniscus and had to wait 4 months before they would do surgery. I was just about the same BMI (236) postop when I started training again, but started walking first, then did couch to 5K. I am now working with a trainer who knows how much I enjoy running, so he has some major leg strengthening in the program and then he has me do some speed work on the treadmill in between exercises.
