I don't have a memory foam mattress, but I did sleep on a wedge pillow for about 2 weeks postop. Just hard to move myself around when I needed to engage those abs that were sore!!

I had a 10 pound restriction for four weeks and no running for 6. Soon as that 6 weeks was up I was out there again!

How much can you eat? (volume/weight wise)
LisaPunkinHead replied to SlimJill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 months out, I can eat 3 ounces of Protein and 1/2 cup max of veggie. Still do Protein shakes for breakfast most days. -
Congratulations!! It is a great feeling!!!

This is definitely an amazing journey. For so long I just wanted to be at the end of it, but now I am enjoying the process so much (except for the mayonnaise incident last Thursday) that I don't want it to end. Which is good, but it won't!! As for bat wings -- my trainer said mine will go away as weight comes off, but he has me doing some extra arm work now too. He even noticed I'm getting a "biceps line"!!!

HA!! I'm not even a Southern Girl, but I get it!! And I say the same thing!!! -
Great job!! I have done 2 half marathons. You are right where you need to be training-wise. Every two weeks, add a mile to your weekly long run. Your last long run should be TWO weeks before your half. Back off training for about five days before the half -- do one or two easy runs and then maybe a walk a day or two before. The concept of carb loading doesn't apply to a half marathon, but still eat well the day before (no junk and nothing new). Keep hydrated. If it's hot, there are tablets you can put in your Water that will add electrolytes. Keep your pace even on race day -- don't start out too fast. Stay at a slow pace, even if everyone else is passing you up. You need to conserve that energy for the whole thing!! And no putting yourself down about "jogging" versus "running." It's all the same thing. You are a runner!!!

Curious what you all did?
LisaPunkinHead replied to Nylaj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I worked at home when I had my surgery. Surgery was Thursday, I was back at work (working from a recliner) on Monday. Major post-surgical brain fog on Monday, but Tuesday was better. -
My surgeon said no caffeine ever -- even had to sign something that said I understood that. Caffeine is acidic and increases the risk of GI bleed, with in our small tummies would not be a good thing.

3 weeks post op gastric sleeve....always feeling really full when I eat
LisaPunkinHead replied to msredd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used a baby spoon and an app that timed 90 seconds from one bite to the next. Helped me take small bites and eat slowly. At 3 weeks out I couldn't eat more than 1/4 cup at a time. -
Question to anyone who didn't lose much hair
LisaPunkinHead replied to mataz78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am four months out and haven't lost any. Only thing I can attribute it to is that I have made sure I get a minimum of 60 grams, and usually closer to 80 grams, of Protein per day. Maybe I've just been lucky so far.... -
Is this too optimistic?
LisaPunkinHead replied to Gingerish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc told me 2 weeks off. I worked from home at the time, so I did work on Monday (after Thursday surgery) but I had severe post-op brain fog and wasn't too productive the first few days. But I was able to lie down and rest when I needed to. Had I had to drive to work, I wouldn't have been able to do it. -
These milestones are so motivational and fun to hit!! Congratulations!

HUNGER - is it really reduced?
LisaPunkinHead replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am four months out and I do feel hunger, and if I have gone 5 or 6 hours without eating I can feel that desperate hunger. But 3 ounces later I'm full. My challenge when I am that hungry is to still eat slowly so I don't make myself sick. -
Internal stitches pain
LisaPunkinHead replied to TXBrittBritt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had it -- in my case it lasted about 5 days because I overdid it one day. I had to take the pain meds then too. But they dissolved and it went away. -
53 when I had my sleeve in February. And I'm not too old -- I just bought myself another 10 years!!! And I am happy to be able to walk through it!

Kaiser patients - what to expect
LisaPunkinHead replied to casper_808's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on what facility you are using. I was at South San Francisco, and I was referred just before Christmas, had orientation January 6, and surgery February 19. A friend of mine went through the program at the same time (we met at orientation) and she had her surgery 5 days after mine. I did not have to wait between appointments. I had my surgery sooner because I called to see if the psych had any cancellations (he was booking 6 weeks out). I only had to lose 12 pounds. I hit my goal weight, saw the psych, emailed my surgeon, and he scheduled me. It was a fast process but while I was going through it, it was slow!!! -
What about the boobies!?
LisaPunkinHead replied to Sleevie.Nicks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 40C presurgery, 38D a month postop, and now 36DD -- My band size has gotten smaller, but boobs are exactly the same size. They are a bit saggy, but I'm 53 so they would be anyway. -
Honestly, tell me the truth. NO more Booze or caffinee?
LisaPunkinHead replied to Michelle Tarver's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor and NUT said no caffeine, no alcohol -- forever. Period. Caffeine because the acidic content increases risk of a GI bleed, alcohol because it is something that we can become dependent on, since we don't have food anymore. I'm a recovering alcoholic, so the alcohol part didn't bother me. But I did not know if I could give up my 2 cups of coffee a day. But I did. I decided that doing this process the right way trumped coffee. I drink decaf now. Stopped drinking coffee a week after I was told I would need to and didn't even have withdrawals. -

I'm 53 and feel like I will love a lot longer now!!! I had knee surgery last September and knew I was going to be on the way to replacements or needing a wheelchair if I didn't lose weight. I feel so much better now!!! -
Sleeping 45 degree, for 4-6 weeks!?!
LisaPunkinHead replied to lauragp74's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My doctor did not tell me to do that, but I felt more comfortable doing it -- I have a wedge pillow that I got at Relax the Back several years ago. It's adjustable so I can have it as a back rest to sit and read in bed, or as a wedge to sleep on it. It was a lot more comfortable for me because my abs were sore and the large incision was uncomfortable. -
