Anyone from Sydney/NSW?
mrs kaje replied to NaomiAus's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If your appointments are anything like mine, it will pretty much be a non event! The dietitian one was very straightforward and I didn't learn anything I didn't already know, and the surgeon one was over in five minutes, and I walked out with a date. So easy. -

New idea for protein...and it tastes GOOD!
mrs kaje replied to CanyonBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I, too, keep a few pre-mixed ones on hand to grab if I don't have time for breakfast before heading to work. So handy. -

Received Surgery date...now pre-surgery diet for 6 weeks
mrs kaje replied to joego2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't see anything wrong with it, except the recommendation for packaged meals. My surgeon has 2, 4 and 6 week pre-op diets and I guess it depends on your current health as to what one you'll need to go on. -
So what do you do about pants?
mrs kaje replied to snarkychef's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been buying things on sale. Picked up a couple of pairs of jeans for five bucks this week, and even if I only get to wear them once, I'll feel like I have my money's worth. I've also bought a few pairs of work pants, but they weren't as cheap. I will also try thrift stores when I need to, but haven't yet. -

Did your shoe size change after weight loss surgery?
mrs kaje replied to Okiebon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Looking forward to this happening - I have a terrible time finding shoes big enough. -
How to tell your 4 yr old?
mrs kaje replied to fuzzywhitebunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly what I said in my original post - I will tell them something, but they don't need to know the real reason. -
Best. Present. EVER!

Yes, you can get a stricture as a result of scar tissue, but they can usually be repaired. And they're not all that common, anyway. My dietitian prefers that we don't count calories at all. You can get a Minimizer Ring around the sleeve to prevent stretching. You certainly don't need to be a gym rat to maintain a weight loss. Your friend is not an expert on the sleeve (or on WLS in general, by the sound of it!).

Ah! Penny! Why?!?!?(My 600 lb life)
mrs kaje replied to Kramer17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did any Redditors read the AMA about Penny, by her niece? I meant to read it and her answers have since been deleted. (AMA here). -
Anyone else struggling with this?
mrs kaje replied to arcticmoonx129's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got stretchmarks when I was a teenager (just from growing), and I know lots of people who did, too. It's not just a weight gain or pregnancy thing. -
I have one of those binders, but I enjoy record-keeping so it's actually fun for me (in fact, I have the day off today and I have big plans that include updating my folder. Ok, so that's the only plans I have for today. Stop judging me! ). But yeah, the amount of forms I have been given is crazy! Then I have all the information from the seminars, and stuff I've researched and printed off. Plus I keep a copy of all the test referrals and the results. Printouts of all my progress charts... spreadsheets I've created... ok I'll stop now.

Uh, I think most chicks are just in it for the thrills

How to tell your 4 yr old?
mrs kaje replied to fuzzywhitebunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not even telling my kids, who will be ten and eight. Kids have big mouths. All they need to know is that I'm going in to have something done. Something really vague Also, I don't want to put it in their mind that "oh well, if I get fat, I can always have an operation to fix it, like Mum did". -
Can I use a post op diet to use weight without surgery
mrs kaje replied to brian45502's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm doing it right now, and I don't feel hungry at all. I'm eating five to six times a day. My calorie target is 900, with 101g Protein, 25g fat and 68g carbs. I usually only get 60-80g protein, but I don't often go over the other limits. Usually my calories are in the 700s but I just don't want/need extra food. In the old days when I went on diets, my calorie limit would be 1200 and I would try and keep fat to 30g, but I never considered carbs or protein. And I was always hungry and still craved junk all the time. I don't feel like eating crap at all now ("crap" includes carbs like bread and Pasta, not just the sugar laden stuff), and I don't even really miss it. It's lost its appeal. I definitely think keeping up the protein intake has made this happen. Now to a disclaimer, of sorts - I have surgery booked for 8th December. Even though I'm going great guns at the moment, realistically I know it probably won't last, just like all the other times. If I could do this all the time, I wouldn't be here. -
Husband is so negative about my Weight Loss Surgery :(
mrs kaje replied to Totoro's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husband thinks it's stupid, too. (Just wait 'til I tell him I'm booked in! He doesn't know, yet.) Maybe he was just in denial about everything and you freaked him out by saying you need to do something about it; it's taken him a few days to admit to himself that there's actually a problem. Why can't he do it, too? Is he scared of the surgery? Embarrassed to admit to wanting it? Four weeks isn't long to get used to the idea, but when he sees how well you're going later in the year, he might change his mind about it. Good luck, mate - and good on you for going through with it even when it seems like everyone it against it/you. (Oh, and an easy way to remember how to convert to lbs is this: 1kg = 2.2lb (roughly) so just double your weight then add 10% :-) ) -
When it first came out I read the sample on Amazon and the writing was so terrible that I had no interest in buying it to read the rest. I probably won't see the movie until it comes to TV.
-
I know this is a terrible thing to say, but what are the odds that two people in the same family will have problems with WLS - in a way she's increased your chances of success.
-
I haven't seen or read it but I love how (on mobile) your post goes "...the sex scenes in the trailers for 50 Shades of Grey aroused..." and I'm thinking 'Is she really going to say what I think she's going to say? ' then you go to the next line and it continues "...my curiosity". As for the book/movie, I don't know why people don't just watch proper porn, haha.
-
Yeah, I guess I didn't even consider all the other stuff. I think because none of those issues were ever part of my life, I don't even really think about things like that. I know Degrassi books were published when it was on TV, but again they are a half-hour read and then you move onto the next topic.

No goal weight, bad idea?
mrs kaje replied to ParamoreloverxD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like you're the one with the right priorities, goals and expectations - they just want an arbitrary number on a scale. I think you have a great mindset about it all. If you do later want something to aim for, but don't want to be a slave to the scale, maybe buy a pair of pants in a 'goal size'. That will give you several pounds leeway, instead of focusing on a single number.
