I have decided on Lap Band
TruffleBean replied to thybenwife07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh man, I dont have any kids but i would like to. My Family has ALWAYS been big. The weight usually hits you when 13-16 comes around and i thought i was lucky when i turned 19 and i was still 125. I guess it was just a delayed reaction cause here i am 22 and im double what i was 3 years ago(WOWZERS) Ive decided on WLS about 6 months ago, I am still going through all the Hoops. I Told my Husband How i feel and hes been with me from the Start. I Refuse to tell my family members because i know they will react the same as yours. 3 of my Aunts have Diabetes and 1 of them had to get their Foot Amputated. I have 5, Yes 5 Uncles(Blood/Inlaws) Who are all Moribly Overweight, and 1 of them passed away last year because of heart problems that came with the weight. Yet None of these people refuse to believe wls is actually a good idea. I myself refuse to let myself fall down that path. My Own Mother, Who is Overweight, Listened to my Aunts and Uncles about the weightloss surgery a few years back and skipped out on her chance to change her life. She is 40 years old and almost 350lbs. Ive decided i wont tell anyone, I may tell my mother because we are so close but who knows. Im tired of people saying "Its the Easy way out" Or "Just do it the natural way". Ya know what? It is easier, Because im getting a tool to help me. Tools make everything easier or atleast more bareable. Could you imagine having to pound a nail in wood with your barehands(i swear this is what struggling to lose weight is like) because someone said using a hammer was the easy way out?For some people Surgery is the ONLY way out. I Want to have Children in a Few years and i want to Live long enough to see them Grow, Graduate, Get married, Have kids, and see their Kids grow. Ive already decided If you not here to support me? You are not Invited to my new Life. Sorry for all the Rant, but its been a year of hearing peoples opinion and i just decided i need to worry about me and my own. I suggest you sit down with your hub and try to get across why you rather choose to get this Surgery than Die. Im sure he will get it. -
So, I currently have Tricare Prime(west) and i got the ball rolling with Trying to get the Lap-band. We are Stationed in California on Vandenburg AFB. I brought it to my PCM's Attention that Weightloss Surgery Is sounding more and more Effective as im yo-yoing between diets. He went ahead and sent a referal and now im undergoing the Process. Im a 5'5 Female with a BMI of 43 when i weighted in at my Sugerons Office. My Surgeon Does the lapband but he Strongly recommends i get the Sleeve. At first i was so Set on getting the Band but now i believe my Surgeon has completely convinced me otherwise 3 months later. Things i have done to get the Ball-rolling with Tricare: -Appropriate Bloodwork + Breathetek + Surgeon Testing -2 Pysch Meetings -Im on Month 3/6 of supervised Diet with NUT -Became Sober for +8 Months All i have to do now is the Body Bone Growth Test and that will be schedule once payday comes around. My Question to anyone Here is, Had anyone switched or Gained a Different Health Care in the middle of their Process and/or Has anyone Gotten a Second Health Insurance while covered under Tricare and Bypassed(Hehe) thier coverage? Like Medi-cal/Medicare for Example? Tricare doesnt Cover the Vertical Band unless i go to a MTF and Im not sure if i will have to Restart all my work. I Really LOVE the Surgeon and he is Greatly Recommended by his Past/Current Patients. His Team is Very Caring and People have said they will wait on you Hand and Foot like a "Personal Maid/Butler". Any Advice? Can Someone Help me?

Yeah i was told to check out his team. "You only gotta see him 3 times, Its his staff you need to put in check" That one is written down in my notebook. Is there anything i should be looking for, Equipment wise or things i should be aware of when i go there? Like if there a certain amount of crash carts? Room Hygiene? Unhappy Patients walking by? Haha, They will be giving me a tour of the facility as well tomorrow. I have alot of questions i want to ask him and his staff when i get there but i dont want to forget anything. -

Introduction + Consultation(Advice Please)
TruffleBean posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! Im new here. I was suggested this site from a Lady in my Nutritional Group. I want to make friends and i want as much support/guidance as i can get! First off, You can Call me "Truffles". Im 22 years old and have been On yo-yo diets since i hit puberty. I weight'd myself this morning and i was 258lbs. My BMI is over 40. What made me just say "no more" is when i woke up and my whole left side of my body was numb. I could feel my blood oozing in my veins. I was feeling too sick. So i called my PCM and Scheduled an appointment to get things going. Im going through Military Insurance(TricarePrime) To pay for my Lapband. Ive thought about WL surgery since 2011 and im finally going to do something about it. My PCM had got the ball rolling with the required things i need for the surgeon. I saw a NUT and also a Psych. Also got a Fasting Blood Test. Im not so sure about the psych eval. though. She was Rude and When i told her i wanted to get WL surgery she looked at me like i had sh** on my face and told me "You dont look big, just do it the natural way, You'll feel much better"... Yeah she seriously said this to me. Afterwards i didnt bring wls up again and we talked about my eating habits. So i think ima request a New Psych cause... that hurt my feeings alot. OUP! Off topic. Now, I have a consultation tomorrow with a Surgeon in the next town over and ive researched ALL i can about the lapband. My Question to you guys is. What kind of Questions should i ask the Surgeon about himself personally? I mean, I'd like to know a decent amount about him and his experience before i let him stick me with stuff, ya know? And i feel like other people would come up with questions i wouldn't think to ask. Also, just to be safe, Could someone give me a general list of things i Should/Need to ask the Surgeon and his team?
