Hi I had my RNY July 2,2013. Everything that you go thru will make you stronger in the long run. Everything is so WORTH IT!! I have had many surgeries in my life. In fact I have had 14 different procedures. My worse surgery was a back surgery. The second worse was my Panni (skin removal after weight loss) I had a allergic reaction to the muscle relaxant. But I can say this the General Anesthesia is kind of like taking a nap. You may remember the short trip into the Operation room but not anything to do with the surgery!! It really isn't that scary at all. I was given meds to help me relax before the actual operation so I was totally ok with it. I always figured if I didn't wake up I sure wouldn't know it!! Just KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE and relax. Put your trust into your Suregon. You will be fine. I'm not sure of the % of problems but it is low. You can look it up on line too. The problem with your spine and your neck would be more scary to me than WLS. Good Luck -
band to bypass in 10 days!
shedo82773 replied to taurus71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Taurus Thank you for your kind words!! I'm glad that I could help you. This is exactly what this forum is for, to encourage and support each other. I also have a GREAT SUPPORT GROUP that I am in on Facebook, this one is the very best. If you are interested in joining one let me know. Everyone has feelings like yours. How long did you have your Lap Band? Did you have problems with it? My hubby had his Lap Band for 13 years he only lost 100#'s but he was is a very large man. When he had his Band he weighed 515#'s. He wanted the RNY then but the suregon told him he wasn't strong enough for that one. Which he was a very strong man. He is quite a bit older now also. He went in for a revision to the RNY in Sept of 2013. After his band malfunctioned and he couuldn't even hold down Water. When they got in there the Band had eroded into his liver. So they backed out and told him in 3 months they woyld attempt to do it again. He ended up with abcesses and was deathly sick for 9 months. # of those months he don't even remember at all. So fast forward to June 3, 2016 we went to Mexico (paid cash) to get the RNY well since his problem with the band his whole right side was solid scar tissue so he got thenSleeve done. Now comparing to my RNY and his Sleeve he can eat way more food than I can at 3 years out!! He isn't using his tool very well so he hasn't lost but 60#'s since his surgery. This makes me so sad for him!! He has Cancer on his kidney and there is nothing they can do until he loses 150#'s. Of course he has me pushing him all the time!! So hopefully he will get on the ball and lose some weight!! So again if I can help in any way please feel that you can ask me any ?'s and I will try to give you a fair honest anwser. Take care and keep me in the know!! -
Well I wasn't saying that my way or the hyway!! I just was giving my opinion. We all need to find what works for ourselves. If I offended any one I'm sorry. As is with everything in life you and I have our own opinions I will continue to not drink Carbonation at all, Be it pop beer or sparkling Water or Champagne. Congratulations to your husband for losing his weight and keeping it off. Also congratulations to you. Keep on keeping on!!
-
Well now from the prespective of a RNY peeps!! Just my thoughts. Ifn the carbonation isn't a real thing WHY does all or most of the Weight Loss Surgeon's tell WLS people not to do it? I don't remember if I posted on here yesterday but my exsperence with POP is bad!! I had a headach while we were down town I needed to take some Tylenol for t and my grandson had a Moutain Dew so I ask him if I could have a small sip, well I didn't hardly take any but when it hit my pouch it felt like acid it burned so much. Very uncomfortable. My way of thinking ( now don't get pissed) but we go thru surgery to lose our weight, why would we not follow what our Dr has told us? Any how this is just my thoughts. BTW I am 3 years out and got below my goal weight in 6 months after my WLS. I did gain 8#'s but even this small amount has made me feel so healthy!! Good luck everyone. May you all who hasn't get to your goal weight and be happy and healthy.
-
Hang in there!! Even if you have to do all liiquids ( of course talk to your Dr first) But I would think that getting your protien and fluids in while you are not feeling well would help in both areas. I know it is hard but just try to KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!!

band to bypass in 10 days!
shedo82773 replied to taurus71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Taurus, Did you have problems with your band? I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. I can say this it WORKS!! If you follow all of your Suregon's guidelines and do what he or she requires you WILL lose your weight!! Here are my Stats: HW 249 SW 232 CW 125#'s!! I actually lost below my goal weight by 8#'s. I weighed in at 117#'s my Suregon and my PCP were getting worried but I gained the 8#'s and it is amazing how much better I have felt!! Part of my problem was I had Strictures ( kind of like scar tissue) I ended up needing 5 Endoscopes with 4 Dialations. With the last one being on Jan 2015. This surgery is so AMAZING!! I was on Protein drinks for 2 weeks preop and 4 weeks post op. I started out eating super soft foods : yogurt, cottage cheese, SF Jello and Protien drinks to supplement. I still use Protein Drinks to get in all of my protein. This your main focus to get in 60 to 80 grams of protien a day. You Dr might have a different # on your protein. I have a problem with some foods like eggs steak pork but I can eat Chili Beans ( actually any kind of beans) cheese, yogurt etc. Be sure to walk as much as you can after surgery and sip sip and sip some more. Your new pouch won't be able to take to much in at a time so you have to work it for sure. It doesn't take long to get dehydrated due to our small tummy!! Our WLS is a tool as I'm sure you are aware of. I still don't have true hunger. Now mind hunger I have to fight all the time. The WLS fixes your body but not your mind. Good Luck and I look forward to following your new journey!! -
I was a diet Coke fien I loved my Coke!!! But...having the WLS and knowing that this would be my last ditch effort I did comply with the guidelines I was provided. I wanted to be a success and not a statistic and fail like I had with all of my attempts to lose my weight and keep it off!! I know I'm not the only one that has tried many many different weight loss programs, heck I even tried them 2 or 3 times!! I think that drinking carbonation is a person's own choice. Now I have never been a big drinker but I love COORS Lite when it is hot!! I also gave that up for the same reason. My thoughts ( for myself) was why try things out that may or may not hurt your Weight Loss? I did have a sip of my grandson's Moutain Dew because I had a extreme headache and needed something to take my Tylenol with. Let me tell you it felt like I had drank Draino it hit my PRISSY POUCH and hurt so bad I have not and will not drink it again. But...with that being said it is a personal choice!!

I'm a newbie! Just adding my story....
shedo82773 replied to SlimBra's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Slimbra, I always thought I was fat when I was in my teens!! Heck I didn't know what fat was. I got married at 17 (barely 17) I had my first child in 1974 my son. I gained 50#'s with him but I lost 35#'s right after I had him and got down pretty well. Now I weighed 135#'s when I got married but during our courtship lol I gained 7#'s and then weighed 142. After my son I got back down to 150. We tried to have another baby abut it took me almost 6 years due female problems. I gained up to 199#'s with her and only lost 13#'s when she was born!! So it started I gained weight so easy at one time I weighed 285#'s tried many many weight loss diets in the mean time I developed Diabetes high blood pressure and in later years Arthritis and Fibromylgia. I managed to lose 135#'s because I was so sick with all of my problems of course I gained it all back plus more! Fast forward to finally July 2, 2013 I had my RNY I lost real fast down to 117#'s my Dr.'s were worried because they thought I was losing muscle. I had problems with Strictures ( kind of like scar tissue) and had 5 Endoscopes with 4 dialations with my last being January 2015. All is greatr now but it was a long road of taking care of it. Fast forward to july 2, 2013 my HW @$( SW 232 CW 125#'s. I have mmaintain my weight with just a 8# gain!! It was amazing how much better I felt after just 8 #'s!! So yes it is hard and it is a totally different lifestyle but OH SO WORTH IT!!! You are going to be so amazed at how well you will do. Remember our WLS is a tool you have to work it!! And remember KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!! That is something that will help you thru all that you need to do!! You are almost there now!! Good Luck!! -
Yes nerves are normal. You are starting your journey and you know some of the things about it but there is still the fear of the unknown. Can I ask you which surgery have you decided on? Everything that you do to get where you are and beyond I can tell you IT IS SO WORTH IT!! Good Luck I hope to follow you thru your journey.

A Positive Thought...
shedo82773 replied to Rosey posey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
WOW!!! Hi Candidate while reading this post I noticed something awesome. I had my RNY July 2, 2013. I am 5.4 and our STATS: are pretty close. LOL My HW 249 SW 232 CW 125#'s. I went below my Dr.'s goal weight I lost down to 117#'s Both my Surgegon and my PCP were getting worried because they thought I was losing muscle. But after the problems with my last Strictures ( I had to have % endoscopes with 4 Dialations starting in Nov of 2013 and my last one being Jan of 2015) I did gain up to 125#'s. It was amazing that I felt so much healthier after gaining 8#'s. I have been in Maintenance and am still holding my own. I was on 12 different meds including insulin for my diabetes. I am now all meds for it and was right out of the Hospital. Now I take 4 plus my Vitamins!! BIG DEAL if you ask me!! I can now exercise ( which I also have Fibromylgia, Arthritis also) So the exercise helps with that. I walk 4 miles 4 times a week and I am thinking I might up it to 5 days a week which I would never had been able to before!! Life is GREAT!! This has been a life saver for me!! BTW CONGRADULATIONS Well done my friend!! -
4 years after surgery gained 50 pounds
shedo82773 replied to Ingrid33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I just read your post and I have a little bit of info that may help you get back on track. If you go on line and look up, THE FIVE DAY RESET DIET" I haven't done it myself but in another Facebook Support Group I have heard of it being done and really helped them to get back on track. I can say if you write everything down that you eat the GOOD BAD AND UGLY it really helps also. Make sure you are getting all of your liquids in and all of your Protien. These things will help you get back on track also. If you have your paperwork that you got when you first had your surgery there is another option. You have GOT THIS!! You know you can do it because you were all ready sucessful before. You have what it takes!! Last remember to KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!! -
Hi I will say one thing it isn't worth it to me. Now I'm 3 years out from my RNY and I was down town with my daughter and her son who at the time was 5 years old. I had a extreme headache with nothing to drink. I wanted to take my TYLENOL. So I ask my Grandson ( who doesn't drink after no one but his mom) if I could have a sip of his Mountain Dew. Which he let me!! BIG surprise there. So I took a very small sip, when it hit my pouch it felt like I had drank Draino had hit my pouch!! Now mind you I had not had a pop for a long time. As I was told by my SUREGON that pop is a huge NO NO!! It can lead to stretching your pouch. Now I don't know which surgery you had but if you did have the RNY I can truly say it hurt like the dickins!! I won't be doing that again!!

I have a protein that is flavorless. I'm 3 years out and have tried many different proteins. I just found this product 3 months ago and it is great. The name of it is GENEPRO. I bought it online. If you have a AMAZON account you can go there to find it. Sorry about you having a hard time. I add the protein to my coffee mostly You can add it to anything you want the good thing is it has 30 grams of protein. I honestly can not taste it. I just mix it in a little warm water then add it to my coffee Works GREAT!!

Surgery date November 18th 2016... Help
shedo82773 replied to Melissa Black's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi the ?'s youare asking are pretty much normal as we get ready for thiss life changing joujrney. I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. By Thnksgiving I knew that I didn't want to eat dinner with our family so I decided to make a small dinner with things that I thought I could have and enjoy. Well as I prepared our dinner I found myself eating walnuts and rasains, oh what a problem. I didn't realize it but I was headed down a long path of sickness!! I ended up not being able to eat anything for Thanksgiving because unknown to me I had developed Strictures. When I thought back I had been having problems with my pouch by Sept and when I went in for my check up the Dr had said that Im might need a Endoscope to see what was going on, I really thought it was myself getting used to thne new way of my life. So I did have Strictures and I ended up having my 1st Endo with a Dialation right after the weekend of Thanksgiving I had another one in Dec then again In Jan of 2014 again July 2014, by that time I had developed a Ulcer. With my last endo being in Jan of 2015. I changed Suregon's because he actually called me a PROBLEM CHILD!! Since my last endo I have been great. I did miss out on all the holidays that year. The next year I got roped into dinner with my Sister in Law's family, I ate very little then. But last year ( my 21/2 year) We had dinner with my daughter and family. You won't miss out on your Holidays, and yes you will be able to eat you just have to know what food works and what doesn't. As far as having young kids I don't but I am a NANA to 8. I had my hubby helping me right after my surgery, but the main thing to worry about is walking sipping your fluids and try to get in as much Protein as you can. With our small pouch we tend to get dehydrated very quickly. I'm not sure what your Dr guidelines are but mine told me to work on my fluids due to that reason. Also I was told that the protien drinks count towards our fluids. Follow your program and all will work out. It does take awhile to get into the groove or habits of what you need to do. But it will get better. Just know that and everything that you go thru is more than WORTH IT!!! Here are my stats: HW 249 SW 232 CW 125#'s. I went below my goal weight while I was having problems with my Strictures. I weighed 117#'s. I gained 8#'s back and now I feel GREAT!! Good luck Hon, you just follow whatever you are told and you will be successful!!! -
Oh yes BTW you have done excellant with your weight loss. And you are right it is a scary thing when we get to maintance. I have a little more freedom with what I eat and I don't always make the best choices either. LOL But we are human and humans make mistakes Right. The difference now is I don't just throw up my arms and say OH WELL, I pick myself up and KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

Hi I have been in this site for awhile now but I had some problems with my Lap Top so I lost a lot of my stuff. I had my RNY July 2, 2013 my highest weight at this time was 249#'s ( I had weighed 285 #'s before but managed to lose 36#'s and kept it off) my Surgery weight was 232 after my Preop diet of Protein drinks for 2 weeks my Current weight is 125#'s. I went below my goal weight at first due to Strictures. But I eventually managed to gain back 8#'s. The only gain I have had!! Which I am real excited about. Any way I would love to chat with you, and If you are interested I can give you my email and we could connect that way. I'm not being strange I'm not weird but I do love to talk about WLS'S this is something I am real Passionate about. So if you want just look me up.

preop liquid diet(opti fast)
shedo82773 replied to breuxo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I just want to say that as you know it will be so very worth it!! One of the things that really helped me was keeping myself busy with things that you can do with my hands: Coloring, reading Facebook go to support groups!! Remember this isn't a punishment at all it is medically needed. Did your Dr. explain that it is to shrink your liver? This makes it easier for them to get in and move their tools around without making you bleed. So jujst remember it is for the best!! Keep your eyes on the PRIZE!!! -
Im going to try this one Hi

Hi
-
Hi, I had my RNY on July 2nd of 2013. Hw 245 sw 232 cw 125. I basically got to my goal weight in 6 months. I was walk7ng 6 days a week. I kept losing weight and got to 117 #s. My family said I looked anorexic! My PCP said that I looked like I was losing muscle then. I was only eating 400 to 500 calories a day. I felt like I had a adversion to food. I had 3 endoscopes with 3 dilations. It started in November, I couldn't hold anything down not even water. This started my strictures, again in December and then in January I had endoscopes and dialations. In July of 2014 I had another endoscope without a dilation because my tummy was so raw and he was afraid of perforating my stomach. I also had an ulcer and a hernia they think. I wasn't getting help from my surgeon and I finally found a Baratric Surgeon in Portland Oregon at OHSU. So I went to him and he did my 5th endoscope and I had another stricture so I had another dialation. And I've had 3 staples removed also. So now I think I can return to eating the stuff I haven't been able to. Meat is a hard one for me. I miss it the most. ( steak) I feel like I can do this and get healthy too. If you ask me if I would have WLS again in a HEARTBEAT! This has saved my life. I have had a 4# gain by my Dr.s scale and a 2# gain by mine. It's very hard to not worry about the gain even tho they don't think I have to worry about it, I do very much so. I'm afraid that history is happening again. The mental aspect is hard. I've been to a Baratric nutritionist, her anwser was for me to eat 1500cal a day, and eat 100cal every hour while I was awake. I refuse to become a grazer. My calories are better 600 to 800 calories a day. I shoot for 60 grams of protien, but fall short sometimes. I'm learning as I go. Trying to be healthy and maintain my wt. Now. I was looking for a support group in my area but to not finding one. I guess I'll try an online support group.
