    ACK! Surgery is this Friday!

Hi everyone I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. I was on Insulin 2 times a day and 500mg of METFORMIN 2 times daily. I took 12 different medications. I am off all diabetes meds plus I take less than 1/2 of my blood pressure meds now. I had hoped to get off of them also but I just can't figure out how to destress!! If anyone figures it out please let me know. LOL I now take 4 different meds plus my Vitamins. I got off my insulin and metformin almost immediately after my surgery. My Highest weight (this time)249 Surgery weight 232 Lowest weight 117#'s ( way too low for me my Dr's were getting worried) Current weight 125#'s. I'm 60 years old I am 5.4. I have Fibromyalgia and Arthritis but now after the weight loss I am able to exercise!! I walk 4 miles a day 4 to 5 days a week!! I know without my WLS I wouldn't be able to do these things at all. So just realize getting off Diabetes medication is a real PLUS to WLS!! Good Luck Keep on keeping on!!
  3. Hi Sally85 I am so sorry for your loss. It really seems like you have been thru HE** for sure. I commend you for still trying to move forward. You know the problem with our WLS'S, is sure they tell us that it will be hard but they don't ( well maybe they touch on it but...) tell us is our mental problems will NOT be fixed with surgery!! When we eat to cope or use food as a pacifier our surgery is just a tool!! A TOOL> We still have to find other measure's that help us cope. For myself having Facebook BaratricPal has helped me so much!! I also have found that because I don't eat when I'm reading this helps me not turn to the food. I try to find things that keep my hands full, coloring, reading, Facebook. I also have found that if I get out of the house and go for a walk it helps me. I call my walks an ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT!! If I go outside and take my walk it kind of clears my head and it keeps me on my program. I don't want to make a bad choice that turns into a all day bad choice or even a week's bad choice. Our TOOL gives us the ability to eat less and make the right choice's most of the time!! Now I'm not an expert no way or shape, and I also have my failures to deal with. BUT each of us can find something that will help us on our way!! The MIND HUNGER is the worse thing that I deal with because even after my 3 years I have no physical hunger but MAN O MIGHTY my mind has its wants!! If you would like to chat with me or just need a shoulder I am here. Good Luck I know you have it in you to be successful you already are you reconize what your eating habits are so in my book YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL!! Keep on keeping on!!

    Skinny people problems

OzRoo, I have the same problem with shaving my pits!! What is the Brazillian Laser treatment? Is it painful? Does it cost an arm and a leg? I also have the knee's going on after I lost 124#'s my knee's started killing me found out it is Arthritis!! Which makes them even more boney!! I sleep with a oblong pillow between them at night. When I ask my Dr why the Arthritis started after I had lost my weight he said, that if it had flared up before that I would be in a wheelchair!! SCARY THOUGHT. I also have a tail bone that kills me now. Had to buy pillows for my recliner and my car seat!! I freeze to death where before I was so very HOT and everyone else was cold!! We are thinking of buying an Electric Blanket for this winter. I won't say that I wished I had WLS years ago because I really don't think I was ready for it. Plus with all the practice Dr's have had and the support from the internet I'm glad I waited. I know 3 people that had the old Stomach Stapling and one gained every # she lost plus, one is sickly and doesn't take care of herself. (Mentally she is a wreck) The other has so many health problems and has gained a significant amount of weight back. So I'm happy I waited until now. I did have some problems with Strictures but all is great now!! If you were to ask me if I would do it again I would have to say with everything in me IN A HEARTBEAT!!! I will just deal with the boney stuff small price to pay to be HEALTHY AGAIN!!
  5. Good luck in your travels and in your journey.

    THREE MONTHS OUT!

Hi Shaunie, you are doing great!! I remember when I was on my 2 week Preop Protein drinks, When I went in for my last weigh in before my surgery I didn't think I had done so well. But I had lost 17#'s. When I thought about it I was ok. That was a little more than a # a day!! I am 3 years out and the way you feel about being afraid to let your guard down is exactly how I felt. I kept thinking about every diet I had been on some even many times more than up to 4 times. Weight watchers 3 times and Nutrisystem 3 times!! TOPS at least 4 times. All I could think of was how many times I had lost and then regained my weight. At one point I lost 135#'s. But it was because I was so sick from my FIBROMYALGIA and ARTHRITIS. I regained back up to 285#'s which was my highest weight except when I was Prego. I did manage to lose 36#'s and keep it off for a couple of years!! But I am here to say if you follow all of your Dr.'s guidelines especially in the 1st year to a year and a 1/2. You really don't have much to worry about. You have been given a tool that will help you to become successful!!! Just keep your eyes on the prize and remember why you decided to take your journey. Every day that goes by it becomes easier and better than the day before!! Good luck!! Just don't let down your guard and become compliant while your journey proceeds!! You CAN do this!!

WOW!!! I live in Roseburg, Oregon!! I also had Tersigni do my RNY. One thing for sure he is a good surgeon but no bedside manner at all!! I had problems with Strictures and I had to have 5 endoscopes with 4 dilations. He referred to me as a PROBLEM CHILD!!! I finally kind of fired him after I went to OHSU with my hubby and found out they would take me on as a PT. He also tried to do a Revision from a Lap Band to a RNY on my hubby but his band had eroded into his liver so they removed his gallbladder and closed him up and told us in 3 months he would do the RNY. He got abscesses and almost died. He was sick for 9 months and 3 months he doesn't even remember!! Long story short because he is Diabetic OHSU wanted his A1C to a 7 or below and to lose 20#'s before they could do his surgery. He could get his A1C down but his weight would go up. And if his weight went down his A1C would go up!! We ended up going to Juarez Mexico, he was supposed to have the RNY but his whole right side was solid scar tissue so they couldn't do it and he ended up with the Sleeve. Not much restriction so his weight loss is very slow. He has lost 60#'s since June 3. But I had lost 132#'s in 6 months. Then I did have a 8# gain but I was way to low at 117. It is just totally amazing that just 8#'s made that much difference. We really wished we would have gone to Tijuana. We have heard real positive things about them. I can say this for sure I WOULD NEVER NEVER recommend BELITE the Coordinator .The lady who set us up couldn't keep herself straight about who she was talking too. So SAD!!! Did your MOM and SISTER have good results with Tersigni? Anyhow I guess we are neighbors. LOL Look forward to talking again.

    1 year & 5 months post-op

You CAN and WILL get there!! You know what to do for sure, you have proved that you can make it Look how far you have come!! Exercise is so important aspect of getting the weight off and keeping it off. Sometimes I feel like it is the only thing keeping me from gaining any weight. Strive to get there. I started walking right after my RNY. Not a lot but I did walk. I pretty much have exercised since my surgery. I now walk 4 to 5 days a week and I go 4 miles each time. I don't know if your surgeon stressed to you how important exercise is but after the honeymoon phase it can help so very much. Good luck and KEEP KEEPING ON!!!
  10. Hang in there!! It will all work itself out. Everything is going to work out for you I'm sure. The insurance and the Dr just need to get on the same page is all. Good Luck and just remember it will be so worth everything that you go thru!!
  11. Hi breuxo Noone can get all ther fluids and Protein in. Just concentrate on sipping and sip some more. Walk as much as you are able to do. I was told to concentrate on your fluids first. We can become dehydrated real fast. Everything will get better each and everyday. Your weight loss is awesome!! Your body just went thru major surgery!! It just takes time. Follow everything your Dr and Nutritionist told you to do!! You will be SUCCESSFUL!!!

    Food Porn

I guess it is because they seen the word PORN!! LOL Hey High Functioning Fat Man can you tell me what part of Oregon you are from and who did your Surgery?
  13. Good luck both of you!! A few tips, I had my RNY July 2013. I got rid of 124#'s in 6 months. I have maintained it all except 8#'s. I went down to 117#'s it was just to low for me!! My DR's were concerned that I was losing tom fast and losing muscle instead of just fat. Anyhow I am so much happier at this weight!! I just wanted to say a few things that I hope will help you on your new journey. Follow the guidelines that your Surgeon gives you, sip sip and sip some more because with your new tummy it doesn't take us long to become dehydrated. Walk as much as you can it will help get rid of the gas after your surgery Talk to your Dr about this but I have used PAPAYA ENZYMES every since my surgery, they help with gas and aid in digestion. They are natural so they won't hurt you. I buy them at Walmart for less than $5.00. One of the best investments going. They have saved me many times. I look forward to following both of your journey's.
  14. Just remember that our WLS is a tool to help us reach our goals. Follow all of your surgeon's guidelines and you will be successful. Most WL people don't have much physical hunger. But most if not all deal with mind hunger. This is something that I fight all of the time. And if you find that you need to get some counseling please don't hesitate to ask for help. Good Luck on which ever path you choose to take. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
  15. There are people that have had RNY (gastric bypass) that have babies afterwards. The RNY is a great way to lose your weight for sure. I had my RNY July 2, 2013. I lost 132#'s which was below my goal. I wasn't healthy at all. Even my Suregon and PCP were getting concerned. I had problems with Strictures ( like scar tissue) I gained 8#'s and have maintained my weight of 125#'s now. I have a life now. My health is better than before. I'm able to exercise and I'm off most of my medications I used to take 12 different medications now I take 4 meds and my Vitamins. If you ask me if I would do it agin I would say with everything in me IN A HEARTBEAT!!! One of the very best things I have done for myself!!

    3 days post op

The things that will help you with the gas is walking which I'm sure they have said that. Please keep on those fluids with the RNY and having such small pouches we can get dehydrated very quickly. Now I'm no Dr but if you get it leared with your Dr I have used PAPAYA ENZYMES for ever since my RNY. They are chewable and they are natural. They also help with digestion. I buy mine at Walmart for less than $5.00. Just clear it with your Dr first. Good luck. Remember sip sip and sip some more walk as much as you can it will help with the gas!!
  17. Hi Shrinkingmeme, That darn Lap Band!! My hubby had his for 13 years, which was in the year of 2000. He did lose 100#'s but he is a Large man. He started out at 520#'s so we had expected a lot more of a loss. When he went in for his fill the nurse damaged his port. First let me say his Dr at the time said he wasn't strong enough for the RNY which was what he wanted and needed. She also used a VANGAURD BAND ( he was the first man in Oregon to get one) it was a BIG lap band. So he never lost any more weight and it came to be that he couldn't eat or drink and hold anything down. The VA sent him to a Dr in Coos Bay Oregon to empty his band. Then he tried to refill it but couldn't. He was scheduled for a revision to the RNY. When they got in there the band had eroded into his liver and he had to much scar tissue to be able to do the RNY. They did remove his band and his Gallbladder. He told him that after he healed for 3 months they could go back in for the RNY. Well he developed abcesses bad He was so sick he almost died. He was sick for 9 months and 3 of them he doesn't even remember!! Fast forward to him trying to get the Dr in Coos Bay to get the RNY well he told us he wouldn't do the surgery because he was such a problem child, but he referred him to OREGON HEALTH AND SCIENCE they told him they would do it if he got his A1C down below 8. And lose 20#'s. Well I don't know if you are familiar with Diabetes but if his blood sugar is down his weight is up so he just couldn't get it done. So we went to Mexico June 3 when that Dr opened him up his whole right side was solid scar tissue from his band and other surgery so they did the Sleeve on him. He isn't losing his weight easily for sure. He has lost 60#'s now. I had the RNY and lost all of my weight in 6 months which was 124#'s. I think people should be compensated or at least Dr's should have to make it right!!! I have heard that the FDA may be pulling them off the market and there are a lot of Dr's that don't even do them anymore. It makes me so mad that so many people have suffered because of the Lap Band!! Good luck on your Journey's!!
  18. I know many people state that the RNY is to invasive for them but...even tho they reroute our pouch etc think about the Sleeve they are removing your stomach like 85 to 90%. Thar is pretty invasive if you ask me. Also if you have GERD the Sleeve tends to make it worse. I do know some have to be revised to the RNY. Also I see that your weight is 245 right, my STATS are: Highest weight 249#'s Surgery weight 232 Current weight 125#'s. I went below my goal weight because of Strictures ( kind of like scar tissue) I got down to 117#'s and both my PCP and my Suregon were worried that I was losing muscle instead of the fat. I managed to gain 8#'s and it is amazing how healthy I feel!! I did get to my goal weight in 6 months and have managed to maintain at 125#'s. Just check out your options. It also depends on your diet if you love carbs sugar etc the RNY gives you restriction and the malobsorbsion too. Which means you don't absorb as many calories. Like I said do your research because noone can decide which is best for you.

    Intolerance

Yes I became Lactose intolerant after my RNY in July of 2013. It sounds like you are experiencing this also. Or maybe the dumping syndrome I'm not a DR by no means so You should talk to your Dr to be sure.
  22. shedo82773

    Help?

It is real common to have problems with your Gallbladder if you still have it. Like James said you could have developed a Stricture also. Please contact your uregon. I know I went thru Strictures and it isn't comfortable at all.

    Feeling excited

It will fly by. But if you apply everything that your guidelines tell you to it will just be a benefit for yourself. Practice eating slow and not drinking while you eat. The process that they have you do is kind of a little test I think. When I had my RNY in July of 2013 they had me do 2 weeks of Protein drinks before my RNY and then 4 nweeks after my surgery. But...every Dr has their own guidelines. The insureance companies just have so many things that they require before your surgery. Like I said it is to your own benefit to practice everything before your surgery to prepare yourself for this LIFE CHANGING JOURNEY!! Good luck, I look forward to following your journey!!

6 Days Post Op How Many Oz A Hour?

When I had my RNY back in July of 2013 I bought those bathroom paper cups at Costco. I would measure out the amount that I should have but to tell you the truth right after your surgery if you are sipping your fluids every 5 or so minutes you should be ok. My Suregon told me ( after I was so very stressed) that my Protein drinks also counted as my fluids. At first there is no way we are able to get in 64oz's of fluids. Just keep sipping and walking and then sip so more. It will get better each and every day. Good Luck
