    3 years 4months later 144 pounds gone

    AWESOMENESS!!! Looking great!
  2. Hi LaLa Weez I am 5.4 and had mine laparoscopically. I had mine Sep 2, 2013. I had quite a bit of scar tissue so it did take them 45minutes just to get thru it. But all went well. Here are my STATS: HW 249 this time I was up to 285#'s but managed to lose down to the 249 SW 232 LW 117 CW 125 I got to my goal weight in 6 months so I have maintained my loss for 2 and 1/2 years. I hope you get awesome results from your upcoming surgery.
  3. Hang on you are about to take an AMAZING journey!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! Researching for 4 years you are more than prepared!!!

    Will it ever happen?

Embrace the time between now and when it happens. This a great time to work on the changes that you will need to do. Like not drinking while eating, practice chewing and chewing more. Slow down when you eat. Maybe start walking some. And do your research on surgeries. Keep going on sites to learn all of the ins and outs of whichever surgery you are having. I know it is very hard to keep up the joy when you keep getting knocked down again. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
  5. I had my Panni done Sept 2015. I really didn't have much pain afterwards but...it may have been because I took my pain pills before I was hurting. My PS didn't give me a binder. I even ask the nurse to call him to make sure. I did come home with 3 drains but they were removed in 7 days. But I was really and still not totally happy with it. My PS told me that he would pull all of the skin and fat to the front and he also told me that it would take care of my FUPA. NOPE. I started asking him about my upper stomach right away because he cut me hip to hip and up straight on my stomach. He did remove 10 plus #'s. But then he told me that I needed LIPO done. If he would have told me that I would have paid the extra for it. Afterwards, he told me that he would give me a good price for Lipo and a breast lift for $6,000. I think he was making sure he had more business. My insurance paid 100% all except $8.00. I am not happy about him doing what he said!! I hope everything is ok for you. Oh yes, my skin is TIGHT!!!
  6. If it is on your left side that is where I was told they put the instruments in. They also told me that some people have such pain that they go back in to the Dr to get a Lidocaine shot. Mine didn't seem to need that. I'm glad everything is going good for you. Each day makes you feel better as you go along.

Day 2 of the pre-op diet

The first Holiday Thanksgiving after my RNY (2013) I thought I would be ok. I didn't get the chance because I had Strictures and needed 5 endoscopes with 4 dilations. But I really have NOT enjoyed any food situations at all. It just feels like so much work for the small amount I can eat. Luckily, I have given my daughter the cooking for all of the Holidays. So I don't have lots of food to eat at home. I hope everything goes great for you. Good Luck

How did WLS effect your marriage...

We do become more intuned about food. But....he does seem to be overdoing it a bit!! LOL It is so hard not to see others eating large amounts of food and then to think back at what I use to eat myself. I would go all day without eating and then at dinner time I stuffed myself until I was miserable!! Now I can't stand that over full feeling!! Since I had my Panni a year ago it feels like it is pulling my skin so tight. I hate it!!

    Drive home

One thing I liked about my Dr is he gave me a script to fill before my RNY, so it was all done. The ride home, which I also lived 2 hours away. Wasn't to bad as I had to stay in a Motel until my 1st week checkup. So going home wasn't bad at all. I was tired so I slept most of the trip. I wasn't allowed to drive myself until I was off all pain meds either.

    Winter or summer surgery?

I agree with James about having your surgery early in the week. I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. Because of a problem with my bladder waking up after surgery I had to stay 1 extra day and night. They had to straight cath me 2 times. Not fun!! They drained an IV bag of urine each time. It had never happened to me before. But has since when I had my Panni done Sept 2015. Because of this I was still in the Hospital on the 4th of July. When we made arrangements for my surgery it was IF he was going to be in town. They said he would be in town. But I never saw him again, I was released by an old Army Dr that was filling in for him. They had what they called TRAVELING NURSES so the regular nurses could have the time off for the 4th. I wouldn't schedule anything close to a Holiday or the weekend. You just get whatever and whoever is on duty. But ITS al GOOD!!

    Sleep Apnea & Anasthesia

My husband has had his sleep apnea for many many years. He fought about using it for many years. It drove him crazy. But...he has it so bad now that he sleeps with it every night. Before he could peel the paint off the walls with his snoring plus he had Restless Leg Syndrom!! Not a good night's sleep for me for many years!! LOL Now he wears his every night, except when he gets a real bad cold because it makes him feel like he can't breathe. When he had a failed revision from the Band to a RNY it made him feel like he was smothering. But that was a whole different thing. He went to Mexico last June and had a Sleeve done but so far with his 65# loss he still needs his CPAP. One thing that helped him was a full face mask. It helped him breathe without coming undid. Thank You DR's!!!
  13. Feeling and seeing yourself smaller is a BIG one!! I still see my highest weight at times. It took me forever to stop going to the Plus Sized racks. It actually took my daughter telling me over and over that I didn't need those sizes anymore. I still have what I call my "FAT DAYS"!! It is very hard for our minds to catch up with our bodies. Our minds definitely did not have the WLS!!! I'm 3 years out and I have maintained my 124# loss for 2 and 1/2 years, I still haven't caught up yet.

    Stevia

I would think that would be fine. Is it on your list from your DR? I do know I have been checking into the KETO diet and it is one of the approved sweeteners.

    Motivation Monday

IT IS WHAT IT IS....BUT IT WILL BECOME WHAT YOU MAKE IT!!!!
  16. Congratulations!!!! It will be here before you know it!! I had my RNY July 2, 2013. I went below my goal weight in 6 months. I gained 8#'s back and have maintained my weight loss for 2 and 1/2 years. Here are my STATS: HW 249 (this time I had got up to 285#'s but managed to lose down to 249) SW 232 LW 117 CW 125#'s. I have improved my life so much. Everything I went thru has been worth everything!! I use to take 12 different meds. I was so insulin resistant and was on Insulin and pills to try to get it under control. NOT able too. Now I am off all diabetes meds and I take 4 different medications now plus my Vitamins. GOOD LUCK!!

    Premier protein

If they make you feel bloated you might be Lactose Intolerant. I did Premier drinks 2 weeks proop and 4 weeks postop. It gave me the back door trots so bad I couldn't leave the house without a pad on. TMI I know but so very true!! My PA told me after I was almost done with my postop that I was more than likely Lactose Intolerant. I also use GENEPRO. It is great stuff. And it is made by a VETERAN. So we get to support them too. Lots of peeps become Lactose Intolerant after their WLS.

    2 week pre-op diet

Mandyann, Being on preop diet does put the stress on our bodies. Your calories have dropped so your body might be crying. LOL How long do you have to do your preop? I did 2 weeks on Protein drinks and I did feel kind of weak and just out of sorts.

    Pre-op Hot Chocolate

They do carry a Hot chocolate mix with added Protein and it is very good. In fact I think BariatricPal Store sells them.

    Hiccups Anyone?

When I'm full I get the hiccups. There is a nerve that gets pushed when you are full which causes this. I can't remember what it is called but I know it is something like "the vergus nerve" sorry I can't recall the name. Sometimes it doesn't happen until I'm overfull. That is a sad time. Miserable.

    Fruit and veggies

I am 3 years out from my RNY and I still don't have much room for veggies or fruit. I can eat a banana once and awhile. But by the time I eat my Protein I'm full. I did have some sliced tomatoes and 1/2 ear of corn this past summer. I ate just those. I was like I am not going thru another season without eating some. LOL Once and awhile I will just have a small bit of Beans and then eat some veggies but not often.

    Head hunger

I am 3 years out from my RNY and I still don't have physical hunger. I think I am one of the lucky ones. But...head hunger is REAL and I still deal with it all the time!! Sorry, I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear.

    My story

LisaMergs, I do not like Premiere Protein drinks. If you are Lactose Intolerant which happens to many people after their WLS, it will play havoc with them. It was what my Surgeon recommended when I had my RNY. Let me say I had back door trots so bad I couldn't even leave the house without a pad on!! Finally after I was almost finished with my Postop (I did a total of 6 weeks on it) my Dr. told me to try something else because I was Lactose Intolerant!! WOW!! Thanks a lot!
