Severe Pain in Left Side Since 1 Day Out of Surgery
shedo82773 replied to mylighthouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have the Sleeve. I had the RNY. But around my 8th or 9th day when I got up from my bed, I felt first a sharp pain, then it just wouldn't stop hurting. I finally called my Surgeon. I was told that the left side is where they put the tools thru and some people have so much pain they have to go in for a LIDOCAINE shot. Luckily I didn't I just rode it out. I would call and see if it is normal. You never know. -
I have always been very open about my WLS. If I can even help 1 person to understand and make a choice to have the help that I have I will be happy!! If someone asks me how I lost my weight I will share.

Hi. I'm Russ and I started out at 470 pounds
shedo82773 replied to RussT's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Everything that you are saying is totally what we all go thru!! Our WLS helps us by making it physically able to follow our path. The mind is a powerful part of this. The surgery is a TOOL but we really have to do the work!! If only the surgery fixed our head too. You have awesome outlook on your expectations!! Good Luck on your Journey!! I look forward to following it. -
First meeting with the surgeon

Writing everything down that we eat is a great habit to get into. Anything you can do while you work your way thru all of this will help you get a better grip on what is to come. GREAT practice!! -
I think like was said above, anyone that has been driving and gets sleepy they find a way to stay awake. Now I'm not saying that sleep Apnea isn't or wasn't a reason for the accidents but I also know that my husband was a long haul truck driver for years and anyone that has done that kind of work knows those poor men are running on sleep-deprived most of the time!! He never would fall asleep and cause an accident. He took other measures to stay awake. But time was money and they have their boss and their dispatch telling them that they need to run BA**S TO THE WALL and get their load down there like yesterday!! Maybe they had a different undiagnosed problem like NARCOLEPSY? Maybe that is what is wrong with my daughter's hubby, he falls asleep everytime he sits down. LOL Or maybe he is just LAZY!! All joking aside it defintly is a very dangerous disease!! Djmhor I am so sorry for your mom.

Are revisions REALLY necessary?
shedo82773 replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Djmohr What you said about the DR's is exactly how I feel. If they made it a little harder and with more education about the surgery then maybe it wouldn't be so abused!! It is so much the MONEY FACTOR!!! Just like my PS did with me. Well, I will give you a good price for Lipo and a breast lift!! HELL to the no!! I feel like he was drumming up more business!! MONEY MONEY is the evil product of greed!! Sorry I just get so involved!! LOL -
Are revisions REALLY necessary?
shedo82773 replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well SHOOT!! I typed all of my stuff and lost it!! I have heard people say that my WLS didn't work. I don't totally agree with this. But like was said it is the choices that we make. Now the Lap Band failing I have 1st hand in knowing about. As you see my hubby had his for 13 years. He lost 100#'s with it but never met his goal. Yes, he did eat around it but it also was damaged during a fill, more surgery. Then in 2013 he went in for a revision to a RNY. It had eroded into his liver. Failed surgery. Then he got abscesses. Was deathly sick for 9 months 3 of which he doesn't remember. His Surgeon dropped him in the middle of his treatment, told him to go to his PCP or the ER. But hubby was so desperate he went back to this Dr again. Then he told him that he was a PROBLEM CHILD and he wouldn't do the surgery. He referred him to Portland, Oregon OHSU one of the best Bariatric Centers. They said they would try to do the RNY but he needed to lose 25#'s and get his A1C down to a 7 or 8. Which doesn't sound to hard right. He couldn't do both, if his Blood Sugar was good his weight went up and the same for his weight down BS up. In the mean time we find out he has Kidney Cancer but there is nothing they can do until he loses 150#. So down to Mexico self paid surgery. When they get in there he couldn't do the Rny because his whole right side is solid scar tissue so he gets the SLEEVE. This was June 3, 2016 to this day he has lost 60#'s. So pardon me when I say it isn't always easy to get another WLS. It makes me so mad when I hear someone say well, I'll jus ge a revision if it doesn't work out. We don't always get what we want. Now I'm not saying he did everything he could to lose his weight but darn the problems his weight has caused us!!! So I guess I'm saying in some cases yes a revsion is in order but if it is just because THE WLS didn't work, then they do need to go thru more counseling to make sure that their mind is on what needs to be done!! -
You might have become Lactose Intolerant. Are your Protein drinks made with Milk? Sometimes that happens after WLS.

You bet!!! Glad to help.

Does anyone regret having surgery?
shedo82773 replied to katragina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I had to eat oatmeal LOTS!! I had strictures and I was very limited in what I could eat or drink without vomiting. Also did your Dr say KETONESn or Keto because Keto is higher fat low carbs and Protein. It helps our bodies burn the fat instead of burning simple carbs. Ketosis is what is dangerous because Diabetic's throw ketones when their blood sugars are high. It over works the liver. -

shedo82773 replied to katragina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says we need to have some carbs so we don't go into keto (which has says is dangerous) He just recommends healthy whole grains like oatmeal. Oatmeal makes me happy! -
I can tell you a better natural way to go!! Take dried Prunes cover with Water and steep them until they are soft. Drink the warm juice and eat a few prunes. You will go!! Good Luck

Great NSV's!!! Sometimes the NSV's are what keeps us going!!
-
LittleLizzieLilliput What you are doing is called maybe not professionally but around the WL peeps is "FOAMIES" I have had my share of vomiting. I had Strictures and couldn't even keep Water down. Strictures are basically scar tissue. All is GREAT NOW!!

How do you guys manage all the sweets?
shedo82773 replied to 11072016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did he say that you can have Beef or Chicken Broth? If you can I would suggest BETTER THAN BOUILLON, Then they have this amazing unflavored Protein Powder called GENEPRO. It has 30 grams of protein in 1 tablespoon. I use it in my coffee all the time. If you try it get a little warm water in a cup add powder and whisk it up then add it to whatever you are drinking or eating, pudding ETC. -

Margie do you mind if I ask how much weight you lost with your band? My hubby had one for 13 years and had many many problems with it. He had it removed Sept 2013. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Very Exciting!! -
My hubby has always told me that he can't understand why I want to talk, read or look at recipes!! He told me that they make him so hungry and crazy at the same time. I'm 3 years out from my RNY and your taste, smell all of it changes. Food just doesn't excite me now. We used to go out to eat many many times a week. Not now it just not the same. Thank Goodness!!

Well...today I am Thankful for my hubby who has been thru thick and thin with me..not just weight but our whole life's journey. My son and daughter whom I love deeper than life itself. My Grandkids who have brought so much joy into my life. My dog Carmella because she loves us back so hard!! My kitty MIA just because she makes me laugh so hard at her ways. My Cousin Rosie who is battling her cancer so hard, she keeps going when I'm not sure I could even go thru what she does. She has always been there for me. I am so THANKFUL for the life I have been given and that I am able to enjoy it like I haven't in a very long time!! This is today, who knows what tomorrow will bring for me to be Thankful for!!

I officially hate vitamins!
shedo82773 replied to GTO315's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I personally have always taken Bariatric Vitamins, I tried the chewables even Flintstones YUK YUK!!! I buy Celebrate Capsules for $15.00 for 90 capsules. I buy 4 at a time so I don't have to pay S/H. I was told that you can open them and add them to food if you can't swallow them. I was told from the beginning that I needed to take a Bariatric Vit. I know that Dr.'s don't always agree. But I figured I would rather be safe than sorry. Thats just me tho. -
And then, this happened...
shedo82773 replied to LisaMergs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, it did happen to me. I got below my goal weight and my Surgeon and my PCP got worried. They thought I was losing muscle because I lost my weight so fast. That was strange for me because I have never in all my 60 years been told to stop losing weight. Then my nieces, hubby and my daughter all said that I needed to stop losing weight they were very concerned about me. Again NEVER in my life had anyone spoke those words to me. Then my Surgeon's Nurse came up to me and ask me if I had ever stopped losing weight. I then told her that I had actually gained 8#'s. Everyone that had said, I was to thin were beside themselves that I looked so much healthier after those 8#'s. I also felt better. What a difference to go from people ( Dr's and all) saying that I had lost to much weight. But...I was and still am so petrified to gain any weight at all. I have maintained my loss for 2 and 1/2 years. I guess I didn't handle what was being said to well because I still see that fat person. I am working hard on being nicer to Myself. When I look in the mirror I still don't see my body weighing 125#'s. I just hope I can eventually see her. It really feels strange when someone says YOU ARE SO SKINNY!! Or you don't look like you ever was overweight. -
How sad!! When does this crap change. Everything that we go to the DR.'s for it all happens because we ae fat!! I remember when I went to the DR for Strep Throat they told me that if I wasn't fat I wouldn't get sick with it. MAN O MIGHTY I can't believe that a BARIATRIC DR would be so callused. I'm sorry. I hope you got some relief from your hiccups!
