Surgery canceled because of nicotine
shedo82773 replied to AndreaNicole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry. Maybe you can go to another program to get your surgery, after you get finished with the smoking. I know how disapointed you are, it sucks and hopefully your DR will cut you some slack. Again I am so sorry!! -
Hi Ya, I can totally relate!! I have always had a no butt syndrome. LOL I'm sure there isn't a club for this...but I have had the hardest time with my tailbone. I'm not sure if it happened because of my accidents when I was a teenager and then again going roller skating in my 30's. Also my many falls from my horseback years. I can not tell you how many different pillows!! Now I am 5 years out and I just found out that they can put something around your tailbone. I envision fat from my upper body and filling up my tailbone. I did find this out from the program called "BOTCHED". I did ask my DR that works on my knee with a gel injection, I ask him about putting something in my bottom. He just kind of smiled and looked at me like I have birds feathers sticking out of my mouth!! I know we live in a city that is kind of slow getting info sometimes but...if it is on TV I wonder if they have seen it. Lo and behold I am still suffering with my achy breakee tailbone!! So sad but oh so true!! I hope you can get some help. Good Luck and have a great day!!

Hang in there!! I know this always sounds so cliché but better times will come. I am 5 years out and it took me forever to get over the smells. I always loved garlic before my RNY afterwards when he cooked with it I couldn't stand to smell or eat it. Same with onions. I have always had a great sense of smell but after my RNY it is SUPER CHARGED, right along with my taste. I have food rituals (not as bad now as before) I find something that I liked I will eat it until I can't stand it. Then I will be onto the next thing. Eat that for awhile ETC. I believe that our weight loss surgery isn't just to take care of our bodies or whole self is changed. I am so amazed still at the small amounts it gtakes to get full!! As I said above it will get better. Hang in there.

TOTALLY me!! If I could I would drink my calories AND my protein also!! Those words have never been uttered from my mouth either. It helps me when everyone has their goodies because they gross me out too. I will try to get excited about food functions when everyone comes over but...I would rather not eat anything. My son makes fun of me and says she will have a bite of her meat and a bite of her veggies then she is done. If I could just loose my LUST for the sweets etc I would have it made.

I had problems after my RNY. I couldn't hold food or water. I had 5 endoscopes with 4 dialations. I definitely had and still have a aversion to food. I still (but not as often) would rather drink my protein than eat it. I went to see a NUTRITIONIST. Do you know what was her advice was...she told me to eat every half hour that I was awake!! Now I went from an overeater to a weight loss surgery to help me to not eat all the time. I totally had to work thru it myself. I now know that I can do ok with what I can eat and stay healthy. I still have great restriction and I have been working on my mental stuff too. Food does NOT tempt me like before. Don't get me wrong I do have my bad days and time. Have a great weekend and be kind to yourself!!

Stomach always bothers me after eating
shedo82773 replied to About time for me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't tell you to go to your DR but...I have noticed every time I eat I get slightly sick to my tummy and I get gas from water it seems. LOl I am 5 years out but my tummy has had a hard time. I had strictures and had 5 endoscopes with 4 dialations. So my tummy has been a hard thing to handle. Is this happening new or has it been going on all along? Have a great day. BTW you look great!! -
I am having a hard time here, I had my RNY in July of 2013. I had very good results but due to my adding some carbs back into my diet and (not saying iit is his fault) but I have a bad obsession with lightly salted Barbque Chips. I have never been a chip eater before but Lordy Lord I am making for it. Bad me!! So now my remission of diabetes is back My Dr put me back on Metformin 500mg 2 times a day. I can gladly say theyt have worked. My Blood Sugar went from 199 to 104 today. I really don't eat many carbs but in the last 3 months I have been eating some carbs, I don't eat many like 1 slice of a whole grain bread. Cut in half with 1 slice of chopped ham and 1 slice of cheese. That is the carbs but them DARN chips. The sad thing is I am so weak, I tell him that I don't want him to buy any more but...he does and when I say just pick up a bag he comes home with 3. OK I'm done whinning!! Another problem is I stopped walking consistanly. I went from 4 times a week to 1 or 2 times. I am telling you folks the exercise is so very important!!! That I feel is the true reason my blood sugar started climbing. But I am back at it, going strong!! Sorry for bending your ears. Have a GREAT week! And do you!!

Hi Peeps, Thank you all for reading and understanding the real part of Journey is learning to find something to take the place of a BAD food (I know there are no BAD foods). Yes my stats are true only now I stay between 125 and 129 give or take a few pounds!! I was on 100units Of Insulin plus 500 metformin 2 times a day before my surgery. I was off all of that for almost 5 years. My last A1C was 7.5 down from 7.9 prior to this last A1C. Yes I do have my drug of chips. They are Lightly salted Lays BBQ chips. Yum Yum NO NO don't think about them!! I appreciate all of the suggestions. This is really hard to go back on the Metforman. After not taking anything for my diabetes. This A1C is the last 6 months. So I became aware like Jan 2018 and the last one June 2018. I guess it is just my pride that is hurt!! May I ask you Missouri Lee why are you on Metformin? Have a great dayh

Dumb question about over eating
shedo82773 replied to Deb100's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I don't know how others feel but when I was a before surgery peep, I discovered that those who are overweight don't eat because they were hungry but we all aren't able just eating to be eating. I was not happy until I had the STUFFED feeling. Maybe not everyone felt this way but...I definitely wanted the Over stuffed n feelings. Not consciously but that was my end of eating. I know I am one of the lucky ones, because I still have no physically but my emotions and remembering what it felt like and tasted like sometimes will push me to overeat. I have a lot of restriction left so when and if I do eat or drink to much it hurts like HELL!!! You would think I would learn from my mistakes but heck no!!! Not that I am cryin in my beer (Gosh if only I could have a big A** BEER) I am so lucky!! Just like was said before it is learning our new normal!! If you work hard and follow your DR.'s guidelines you can and will be ok. -
You are so welcome. BTW they all count towards you fluid intake. Good job on trying different drinks. I love my tea!! And a added plus the green tea is supposed up your metabolism. Hey, I'll try anything!! LOL

I'm so sorry that you have to go thru this with your mom. It' is so hard to have your life changed and all out of whack too. I think you are very courageous> I also took care of my Mom and my Mother in Law in their last days. It was very hard to leave to go even to the store. You worry the whole time you are gone. Maybe you can go back to your basic program. I know it will be hard but you don't want your weight gains to continue. I would go back to measuring everything. Write everything you eat and drink down in a journal. It helps when you can actually, see where you are at. I don't know if this will help but good luck. BTW be sure you are getting your water and protein in.

How about Sugar Free Popcicles. They will help with your fluids and they taste good too. I love the tropical ones they are yummy. I know you said you are so over the water but you can pick up Sugar Free additives that you add to you water. They cost $1.00 at the Dollar Tree etc. They have Orange Crush flavor, Root Beer, tropical punch flavored. They taste just like a soda pop without the carbonation. They helped me a lot during the hard to drink water time. If you can stand your water cold, I found I have to have mine extra cold. Maybe some green tea will help too. Lipton has some Sugar Free Mixed Berry, Citrus and my fav Peach tea. Those can help to get it in. Sorry for my ramble, I think I write like my mind thinks. LOL

Feeling Awkward & Embarrassed About Visible Weight Loss
shedo82773 replied to bluehat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is hard that people start noticing your weight loss. I even had a former TOPS lady say real snotty. Well, (with her hands on her hips) how much have you lost now. It sounded to me that she was jelly. It feels very awkward to be put on the spot in a group. Heck, my in-laws kept it up so much that I got tired of even going to visit. I hate to use this passage but...it will get better. Try to just bear with it. It will get better. After awhile the compliments will end. Then another insecurity pops it ugly head up. You think why isn't someone noticing my weight loss. LOL It all comes with the journey!! Hang on...it is a GREAT EXCiTING RIDE!! Good Luck -
Questions for Post Ops who are willing to share
shedo82773 replied to ARCarnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes A MILLON times over I would go for it all!! The Panni is the lower skin on the stomach. I was told by my Plastic surgeon that he would cut me down the center and pull everything around and get rid of the excess skin there also. He didn't do anything except remove my lower stomach skin made me a new belly button and the amazing thing was years before this I had my gallbladder removed and I had this large scar cut down the whole length of my side tummy. right under my breast. After my skin surgery the scar is WAY down almost to the top of my well I'm sure you get the picture. My skin is super tight thatn if I eat even a few bites after the full mark it hurts like the Dickins. Mainly if I lie down it feels like the skin is stretching. So if I was you I would get it all done. If only my Dr. had been truthful I would have paid for the rest. DANG HIM BTW he offered to do Lipo and a breast lift for $6,000. It made me think he was making more business for himself!! I guess we all have got to make a living!! -
Questions for Post Ops who are willing to share
shedo82773 replied to ARCarnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi AR Carnes, I am 5 years out from my RNY. I have been pretty lucky I lost 135 pounds in 6 months. I had some problems with strictures (kind of like scar tissue) and it was way to low. My Surgeon and nutritionist both were worried that I was losing so fast and they thought I was losing to much muscle. I had to have 5 endoscopies starting from Nov 2013 until my last one on Jan 2015. Not fun but at least it was an easy fix. So I have maintained my weight at 124 to 130 since. So now in 2015 I needed a Panni, He removed 10 pounds plus. If I had known that it didn't get rid of my higher stomach I would have paid for it at the same time. Am I happy with what I got NO DARN WAY!!! I worked hard to lose it and would of loved to get what was promised. Will I get more done? Like Lipo and arms etc more than likely not I am now 62 years old and I would love to finish my body but insureance won't cover it at all, they say it is cosmetic. So I am built like a man with most of my weight in my stomach and yes I had lots of skin removed but no muscle repair. Most do have skin issues. But every other part of my loose skin I say a MULTITUDE OF SINS can be hid by our clothes. Also I can say that the Panni was one of the easiest surgery's I have had. Good Luck and keep us in the know about your journey. Good Luck and most of all KEEP ON KEEPING ON!! -
YAY!!!! You are starting the most awesome journey. Congratulations KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!

9 months Post Op, chronic fatigue, muscle weakness.
shedo82773 replied to thelivecity's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My B12 was high and atfirst they had me use sublingual every other day. It was still high so now I take it once a week. Do you have excess to your DR or a Nutrtionist they can help you set things up. Each person has different needs. They would be the best one to work out your needs. I have Fibromylgia and losing my weight and being able to exercise has helped me tons. Sorry you are having these problems. Take care. -
Hi, yes this is HARD!!! Everyone will agree. BUT....Oh so worth it!! It all depends on you!! I know it would be easier to let it go but after the fact you would hate yourself. Keep yourself bus busy. Get out of the house. Do something with your hands to keep them busy and to busy to eat also. Hang tight and remember KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

Costco: suggestions on what to buy.
shedo82773 replied to TaylorMade4One's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Costco has amazing veggies. They also sell a veggie tray with carrotts, broccoli and califlower plus ranch dip, The ranch dip is pretty low in sugar too. -
so confused about calories!
shedo82773 replied to Borocountry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't heard this either. My preop was Protein shakes for 2 weeks and my postop was 4 weeks of protein drinks, SF Popcicles and broth. Even doing liquids protein etc you have calories. If they had that much restrictions I would think noone would be able to succeed. Good Luck -
Finding the courage to get gastric sleeve done in Mexico with a BMI of 33
shedo82773 replied to newlifeat41's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
To your ? about our food demons before or after, for myself I worked real hard before but...the surgery gave me the means to continue on. WLS is an AWESOME and an AMAZING helper to give you that push to do it. All I can say is this is what helped me. As many others have said in our forum, it takes LOTS of work to be successful. Make up your mind and go for it. Just know YOU alone will have to decide what you want from your WLS. You can defintly out eat your new tummy. My hubby had a Sleeve done and he does have restriction but he can eat around it like crazy, My RNY is a little harder to eat around ( this is just me speaking) if you eat some wait and come back to it again. Become a grazer it can do you harm. I wish you all of the success you deserve. KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!! -
