Hair growing back...different!?
shedo82773 replied to fruitandveggies's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I didn't notice any different color but mine came in so much curlier!! I have always had lots of body in my hair. My SIL even ask me if I had gotten a perm. LOL But it is mostly in the back. Funny how EVERYTHING seems to change as we become more healthy!!! -
So, what made you gain weight in the first place?

Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian
shedo82773 replied to FlyFatA$$Fly's topic in Food and Nutrition
I tried to get help with my aversion to food due to having STRICTURES and then I became afraid to eat hardly anything even water sometimes. So I went to a local Counseling group, but she didn't have a clue what I was going thru. So finally, I contacted my Surgeon and ask for a referral to an RD. She was part of the WLS office and was at the Hospital where I had my RNY. Do you what she told me to do? Eat every 1/2 hour that I was awake!!! Now she was talking to a person that had panic attacks when she tried to eat sometimes. I told my hubby that I felt like I traded one eating disorder for the other!! Man, was I terrified that I would gain weight!! I did see one other NUT but that was way before my surgery. So I don't hold much stock in them. WHY would she tell a person to eat so often. I know she thought I was malnutrition but...I wasn't going to gain weight for her. Needless, to say everything worked out after my 5th ENDOSCOPE and Dilation were done. So I guess what I am trying to say, maybe sometimes you need to follow your own path. Use the tool we are given, gather yourself up and do what you need to do. -
Hi, I am so sorry you don't feel good. Just give it a little bit of time. Make sure your Dr knows how it is going. I know this sounds so cliche but it will get better and everything that you are going thru now will be OH SO WORTH IT!!!

So, what made you gain weight in the first place?
shedo82773 replied to jrsone's topic in The Guys’ Room
When I was in my teens I wasn't fat but thought I was!! I weighed 125 to 135#'s but I wasn't like the other girls I wasn't tiny and petite. So even when I was thin I always felt out of control. My mom never had veggies, or potatoes. We lived on meat and gravy on bread. I never developed good eating habits. Then I met my hubby and got married when I was barely 17 and he moved me away from my mom, I couldn't wait to feel normal. I got prego but still, my weight gain wasn't bad. I started eating whatever I wanted, you see my hubby and I had one giant thing in common FOOD!!! He weighed 350#'s when e were married. Years passed I gained weight, pound on top of pound!! Had my 2nd child at 23 but I became a Diabetic on pills then shots. Losing weight wasn't a problem but I never learned how to keep it off. At one time I weighed 285#'s. My diabetes just kept on getting worse until I could not control it at all. We both have a little more in common now, food isn't our main focus!! We have 8 grandkids that fill our hearts to the brim with love!! We are closer now than ever. So I have a lot to be happy with. I had my WLS and I have been in maintenance for 3 and 1/2 years, hubby has lost 200#'s total. Life is AWESOME!!! -
Gaining a Couple of Pounds Between Doctor's Appts During Pre-Surgery Phase
shedo82773 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Isn't it funny how each Dr and different insurance all can't be on the same page? I was pretty lucky because I had some of my Preop test done. But the DR that was going thru only wanted to do a Lap Band on me. Was not going to work for me because my hubby had nothing but problems with his. So I went to another Surgeon and when he started finding all of my test done it went fairly fast. But I did have to do 2 weeks on protein drinks and then 4 weeks Postop. He never told me to lose any amount of weight, I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Like was said above I think you should go back to a number of calories that you will lose the weight on. Like was said it would be horrible if you couldn't get your WLS because you gained too much. Good Luck on your journey. Keep us up on what happens. -

Half a NANA is better than none...
shedo82773 replied to NanaABC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Talking about knee's, here I am!! I have had steroid shots in both knees. But I can tell you this much, I had ULTRASOUND guided GEL shots and at first, I was so surprised IT WORKED> I had 2 series and then Medicare decided that they aren't working enough for them to pay for it. They are kind of expensive. BTW I weighed 249#'s before my RNY. I had got as high as 285#'s!! I had not one problem with my knees until I lost 124#'s!! When I ask my PCP why am I having problems now, he told me if I hadn't lost my weight I would be in a wheelchair!! Scary stuff!!! Back to my knees. Now he wants to draw out my own blood from my knees and then they would spin it down to get all of the marrow (I think that is what he called it) then put it back into my knees. YIKES That scared the heck out of me!! Now I am just trying to nurse my knees while I do what I can for exercise. I am not bone on bone yet. He also told me that it is Osteoarthritis. I hope and pray it holds out. Sometimes I have to just push thru the pain. I hope you all get the relief you need to KEEP ON KEEPING ON!! Good Luck!! -
Why in the 'sam' would Carnie Wilson think opening a bakery biz is a good idea?
shedo82773 replied to Sosewsue61's topic in Rants & Raves
Maybe it is because she has the money to pursue another weight loss surgery if she needs to. Things just came easy for her. I really like her as far as I know of her, but to me, it is just that she is one that "HAS IT" and just thinks "I can always have another WLS if I gain my weight back!! The HAVEs and the HAVE NOTS" Not my Zoo and not my monkeys. LOL -

Can you explain to me what is an inverted tummy tuck? Thank you
-
Did your DR seem to be unconcerned? I think you should talk to them thoroughly, explain how it feels when you drink or eat. I am not a DR but I would try to get more protein in ( maybe one that you make yourself) if this continues I would make an appointment to see him right away. Getting enough protein and fluids will help with you getting around. Please take care. Keep us posted about how you are doing.

My hubby said that I needed a NINJA!!! LOL It does make delish protein drinks, but I really wish we had bought something different because I don't know how to use most of it. He actually bought me 2. I'm kind of spoiled I guess but of course, the first one wasn't good enough so he ordered the super duper NINJA!! Then we gave the 1st one to my daughter. She was pleased as punch then. She had just started doing protein drinks herself trying to lose weight but that didn't last long. She is her Mother's Child. LOL

Vitamin suggestion I hate chalk tasting stuff
shedo82773 replied to kokopellie29's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
CELEBRATE has a capsule vitamin, which you could open them and sprinkle them in something you are eating. When I first had my RNY I was told to use CENTRUM CHEWABLES. They are fruit flavored and kind of reminded me of a gumball. I had to change vitamins because they tasted too sweet to me, hubby loved them. Different strokes for different people I guess. My Surgeon was the one that told me to use the capsules sprinkled on something that I was eating. -
Notification that I have something in my cart?
shedo82773 replied to summerset's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I also have this going on!! And it goes right to the vitamins also. Totally not going to make me buy something. After my RNY I ordered a ton of their meals, they were good but at the time I couldn't eat some of them because they had rice or noodles in them. I have a few still in my spare room. LOL When I was able to use them I much preferred home cooked food. Silly me!! But the cart thing started yesterday, I don't think it will work on too many people. Have a great day!! -

How did you choose your goal weight?
shedo82773 replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never had any goal weight set for me. But I weighed 135#'s when I married my hubby at 17YO. Then I got really sick for a long time and I dropped down to 135#'s. I looked sick! Maybe because I was so sick!! LOL So after my RNY I lost very fast. My lowest weight was 117#'s ( I am 5.4) But I did gain 8#'s back. Even my Surgeon was worried about my weight. Am I happy about gaining that weight back? NOPE, but I am so much lighter than I was 4 years ago. I have my life back!! I can enjoy my grandkids walk ride my bike you name it LIFE IS GREAT!! BTW I now weigh 125#'s which is the lowest weight Ever. I don't remember anything about my weight growing up in HS I weighed 135. So I really believed that 135 is my set point. LOL Research everything t help you with your decision Good Luck -
I didn't think I'd feel this way. Vent.

Hon, you are not alone in this!! You are quite a bit younger than me, (I am 61) talk about a melted body!! I look like a candle that has not only melted but I have run in a pool. LOL, I'll bet that more than NOT people struggle with these issues. The feelings that you have are so normal!! You just never know, your skin could bounce back faster than me at 61. As far as not feeling happy is just part of the growth we need to do. I had my RNY on July 2, 2013, I got to my goal weight in 6 months. So I actually have maintained my weight loss for 3 and 1/2 years. Sadly, I have gained back 8#'s But...I really did lose too much. In fact, my Dr. said he was glad that I had finally stopped losing. Am I happy about my gain? NOPE!!! But it is a whole lot less than 4 years ago. After 2 years of maintaining I had a PANNI done. The Plastic Surgeon removed 10 plus pounds of skin/fat etc. I am not very happy with my results. But for the actual removal of the bottom of my tummy, I am happy. But...now I need LIPO on my upper stomach. Which my PS would be happy to do more at a different time. He said he would give me a break on the cost. He said he would do my LIPO and a breast lift for $6,000. I am not happy with him at this time. He didn't follow thru with what he had said. He told me he would pull everything to the front and remove that along with my front removal. That didn't happen. Anyway, now that I have written a book I'm sorry. My hubby said something that opened my eyes. He told me that I would never be fine with my body that it didn 't matter what I had done I would always want more done!! You know what maybe he is right. I would suggest that you research and make sure that you do what is best for you. Good Luck -

shedo82773 replied to Kristi Jacobs's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am confused. Did you use BELITE and went to Star Medica? Was your Surgeon named JOSE RODRIQUEZ? I am sure glad you had a good time there. As for my hubby and I, it was a horrible experience. BTW I am sorry I forgot to ask how you are fairing. My hubby also had the SLEEVE. The DR was good but I won't try Juarez, Mexico again. Have you got anyone to take you on for follow-up? I can recommend some great Bariatric Center. It is OHSU. There Bariatric center is top of the line and they do take other people that had their surgery's elsewhere. Good Luck -
Cannot lose no matter how hard I try!!
shedo82773 replied to yeshello's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't miss them at all. If I do decide to have them I'm like you just a few is all I need. I do miss our Saturday Breakfast. Many Many years ago we always had fried potatoes with sausage gravy or Potatoes and fried eggs. I can NOT do eggs at all. I miss them. But I can truthfully say that most of that stuff makes me sick to my stomach so I don't even try them. I get stuck on something and eat it over and over, then I'm done with it. Weird for me. LOL
