I can't really share my menu because I am 4 years out but...did your surgeon give you any guidelines? It will get better as you progress. Just be careful and not overdo. Make sure you are getting enough fluids in and you are striving towards your protein goal. Take care and I'm sure there will be others that can help you out.

Today is my one month post op
shedo82773 replied to Sexycubita's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What a way to jump-start your JOURNEY!!! Great Job!! -
I'm not sure but what I have learned thru my MANY MANY WL tries is all of the winter squash like the hard-skinned ones are usually higher in calories and stuff. Summer squash is your lower calories etc. But they don't last very long. If you look up the Calories and all online it will give you a better idea. Also, your new little tummy won't allow you to eat much, just measure out what you are supposed to have and you will be fine. If you are like me I love them with butter. LOL

Post-op/ back to work SNACK ideas
shedo82773 replied to Tat19808's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I forgot a couple more: SF pudding w/ added flavorless protein or SF jello with added protein. -
I noticed that cottage cheese was mentioned, I love it with a couple of teaspoons of SF strawberry Jelly. Taste kind of like a strawberry cheesecake!! Peanut butter and celery is a good one. Jerky also.
-
BTW can you share your apple soup recipe it sounds yummy. I can't eat a regular apple and I really miss them.
-
Just a quick note, You can take or leave it but here goes....Acorn Squash is counted as bread on Weight Watchers and other weight loss groups. The reason I know this? Because I was eating acorn squash for lunch every day. LOL It played havoc with my WL back then. I'm sure you aren't getting near as much as I was eating due t WLS.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!!!! And KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!! -
I didn't say I missed them..I really didn't have much to do with them..But I did catch some of the RIF RAT stuff going on. Yes, they did strike out at some and "The big girl pantie thing was going on. They were kind of mean from what I saw. I really don't buy into the "TOUGH LOVE STUFF". You don't have to be mean to others just to make a point!!

Will the Duodenal Switch interfere with my Synthroid absorption
shedo82773 replied to jacon's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I can't answer your ?' because I had the RNY. Which can have absorption, I have been really lucky I haven't had any problems there. I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. I also take Calcium and am on Synthroid, I take 0.075 of Synthroid a day and 500IU+D3 and 400Mg Calcium. Like I said above I have not had 1 bad report except my B12 is a little high. I was taking B12 sublingual every day then it was 1 time a week. Now I take HAIR SKIN & NAILS 2 times a week. I don't know if there is a lot of difference with the DS and the RNY. I do know they both have the malabsorption side. BTW I also want to welcome you to the group. I hope you get some answers soon. Have a great day. And good luck on your Journey!! -
Vegan foods for days 3-8 after surgery?
shedo82773 replied to TurtleGirl's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Definitely, My Surgeon had me do Protein Drinks and liquids for 4 weeks after my RNY. I also had to do Protein Drinks 2 weeks before. -
I defintly can't do eggs. I have had a boiled egg in my salad and did ok there. I can eat a deviled eggs like maybe 1/2. But it all depends on my "PRISSY POUCH". If I can keep them done or not. In fact my hubby made deviled eggs yesterday and I just could not bring myself to try them.

Hi, I am also over 4 years out. The majority of us vets have moved on, so to speak. Right after I came back to this site, something had happened and there were some bad feelings and then the next thing I knew poof they were gone. Keep coming on and maybe we can get some of the old ones to come back.

The Good The Bad & The Nasty
shedo82773 replied to KristyAB's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Be aware!! I got jumped on like dirt on a shirt for singing the praises of GENEPRO> Got called an idiot because I said that it had 30grams of protein. I was told that there is no way that 1 tablespoon of it could have 30grams. Oh well, love it and every one of my bloodwork for the last 4 years has been great!! In fact, my B vitamins are slightly too high. LOL Just a warning if you get in trouble just roll with it like I did. LOL -
The Good The Bad & The Nasty
shedo82773 replied to KristyAB's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My Nutritionist said they were great!!! So of course, I ran down to Kmart and looked for them, They were the slimest gross tasting yucky thick something that I couldn't put in my mouth again!! My nurse told me about this unflavored Protein. It was called PROTOX or something like that (it was 4 years ago) I paid $19.95 for 1, Of course, I bought 2. They were so slimy I couldn't even get 1 TBS down. I am so glad I found unflavored GENEPRO!!! It has saved my life I have it in my Espresso every day. This is a great way to find out what is good or not!! -
Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass?
shedo82773 replied to SillySavy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi there, I had my RNY July 2, 2013. My blood work has been spot on!! I do have high B12 so I had to cut back on my sublingual vitamin. I also feel like I make a great choice of what vitamins I take. I know there are lots of peeps and DR.'s that say FLINTSTONES with IRON are ok. My Surgeon told me from the start that I have to be on BARIATRIC vitamins for the rest of my life. I use to take 12 different medications and 100 units of Insulin 2 times a day. Now I am off all of the insulin...I now take 4 medications. Plus my vitamins. I will take that anytime!! BTW plus I am able to get out and exercise!! Plus I lost 132#'s and gained only 8 to 10 #s!!! That is a win-win for me!! Hubby had the Sleeve done and I know plenty of people have had Sleeves and were very successful, he has lost 135# in 16 months. He isn't compliant!! I also got to my goal weight in 6 months. Just as a comparison. Just remember any surgery is a TOOL!! You still need to put in a whole lot of effort and time!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!! Good Luck in your Journey!! -
Breakfast of champions
shedo82773 replied to FlyFatA$$Fly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When we flew to Juarez, Mexico for my hubby's Sleeve surgery, they made me throw away our protein drinks and our bottled water. I know I could have fought it because it was a medical need. I did the same and paid $4.00 for WATER> Heck, I walked 2 miles to get him some apple juice. LOL I also bought a can of chicken noodle soup then drained all the broth off for him!! The things we did. LOL At least he didn't need to stay longer. We were so glad to get back home!!! -
Bypass vs sleeve?
shedo82773 replied to saltykisses's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband had a Gastric Sleeve and if he eats anything that is real fatty or sweets he gets the dumping syndrome within 15 minutes. -
Bypass vs sleeve?
shedo82773 replied to saltykisses's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just a couple of things. Some people do get the dumping syndrome with the Gastric Sleeve. The Sleeve surgery is kind of invasive, they remove 75 to 80%. In extreme cases they can reverse the RNY (I have been told) Also many have their Gastric Sleeve revised to a RNY. It all boils down to both work. You need to also do the work with both surgery. Good Luck in your choice of surgery and your ongoing journey. -
I was told that it has something to do with a gland called the Vargus (I think) it gets pushed on and that causes the hiccups ETC. I belong to 2or 3 other groups and it still amazes me at how many people have this going on. At least we know we aren't crazy. Right
-
We also bought some skillets and we LOVE them!! They work well on my induction stove and clean up is a breeze too. You really don't need much oil either. Love them right along with my INSTANT POT.
-
My sense of smell is over the moon since my RNY!! My taste has changed also, I get a taste in my mouth like metal. I get the hiccups when I am full, sometimes it doesn't happen when it should so I just take another bite and then it is too much. LOL

Could we be surgery date buddies?
shedo82773 replied to Mieko Tominaga's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I am 4 years out. I had my RNY July 2, 2013. Just curious to see who had their WLS the same date as me. What a great idea. -
WOW!!!! That is an AWESOME TRANSFORMATION!!!! May I ask you which WLS did you have? You look like another person after your WL!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!

Hi, Ya, Yes we have experience with BELITE WEIGHT LOSS. I am not trying to scare you in any way but...my hubby went thru that service and it was not anything they said. But let me get a little background on him. He had a Lap-Band for 13 years and in 2013 he went to a DR here in Oregon. They could not do an RNY due to the band eroded into his liver so they removed that and his gallbladder due to finding some stones. Sent him home, he got very sick for 6 months with abscess, 3 months he doesn't remember. So after all of this, he couldn't get the surgery thru that DR which he referred to my husband and I as problem children (I had an RNY on July 2, 2013, with the same DR. So he compares facilities and finds BELITE. They told us to bring our own washcloths, to begin with. A little strange but it gets even worse than that. We were promised a suite we got a small room and I slept on a window seat!! When they got to him (he had many surgeries scheduled)it took them quite long and then I was just about in a panic. His whole left side was solid scar tissue so he had a SLEEVE done. In our opinion not as good as a RNY. They told us to bring $50.00 for pain medicine. It wasn't even as good as TYLENOL. The lanuage barrier was rough. The nurses didn't wash their hands or wear gloves. When I ask for release papers there are NONE given. Because he was supposed to have the RNY that was the guidelines they gave him. When I ask for the diet guideline papers for the SLEEVE I was told that basically the info is the same. Since I had my RNY I knew that wasn't right. Because he had the SLEEVE instead of the RNY we had money coming back, never recieved the amount that should have been given. When I spoke to BELITE about the hand washing etc. I was told that they have tried to get them to wear gloves and wash their hands, she told me that it was their culture and they had been told many times about this!!! If we knew all of this before we sure would have thought long and hard about going thru them. I have heard that BariatricPal has a great program. My husband thought because BELITE cost more (you know the old saying you get what you pay for) but we both wish we would have run as fast as we could to another program. Not trying to scare you but check things out before you commit. Good Luck please take your time and get something done and done right the first time.
