  1. As I was reading thru the post I remembered how much different my mind is now compared to before. I also did Atkins (plus almost every diet is known to man sometimes 2 to 3 times ) My hubby also did Atkins, he lost like crazy I never lost not 1 #!! And I was always what I call "Balls to the Wall or nothing". I just realized something about myself, I don't feel like that anymore. It wasn't just diets but even exercise!! Even after my RNY I kept thinking I have to exercise 7 days a week. I would get depressed if something came up and I couldn't get my walk in!! NOW!! People, I think more in a balanced way. THANK GOODNESS, I am ok!!
  2. When I had my RNY and was so very sick, plus my daughter had moved to North Dakota and our son always spends the holidays with his MIL & FIL. As I was saying I still felt guilty about Thanksgiving so I fix a Turkey Roast mashed potatoes etc. But for his dressing, I talked him into eating it way different than our usual. I added some walnuts, rasains and diced apples. As I was making it I ate some of the rasains and walnuts. Well, the next day I had to go in for my first Endoscope and dilation. I threw up all night and couldn't even drink water!! He seemed to like his dinner, but I sure couldn't stand the smells. Since that dinner, my daughter moved back and I passed the MAKING OF OUR DINNERS!! She uses all of my recipes that was handed down to me by my mom. three generations of recipes. I must say she stepped up to the plate and did great. So I was afraid she would get mad at us but nope. We are going to just love going out alone. The family is great but sometimes we need to be alone to enjoy our meals. Thank goodness my hubby was a Chef in the Navy so he can cook for us or himself. That way I can say yes or no to what he fixes. LOL Being older has some benefits. LOL We jut have to do what it takes!!!
  3. I am one of the lucky ones for sure. My hubby and I have been married for 44 years. Our focus was FOOD!!!! Now that I had my RNY (july/2013) and he had his Sleeve (June 2016) food just doesn't give us the same rush!! With the Holidays coming, we just told our daughter that we weren't doing the all-out bash this year. At first, I thought OH NO but she took it fine because she will more than likely be working. We are going out and having Thanksgiving alone this year. No leftovers to tempt us later. Maybe our Turkey and Ham are all. Last Christmas we decided we would just stay home so her family went to the other Grandparents house it was fine for all. Food just isn't our mainstay anymore. I am just happy as a clam, I don't have to cook or put away leftovers or do the dishes!! YAY me!!

    Surgery & Psoriasis

Well Hi Julie, my name is Sherrie. It is so great to find people that are in the same space. With our WLS. Of course you can always ask me anything that comes up. Do you have to do the 2- week Preop? I did and also 4 weeks Postop. That's the pits about the Tgel. I have always had good results. I think if it gets too bad this winter I will get some of the new junk, it comes in a shot. Right now my psoriasis is looking pretty good. I dearly hate those sticky slippery junk that gets everywhere. I also like chatting with you. Ok I will see you later and take care.
  6. I have done the Exercise at the Gym before and yes it did become obsessive. 6 to 7 days a week, plus I worked and still had 1 child at home. But...not this time. I started walking right after my RNY. I started slow but I did walk every day. I now walk 3 to 4 times a week and I go 3 to 4 miles. I call it my attitude adjustment. I can be in a Pi**y mood before I go and by the time I get home my whole outlook is better. I think my walking has been my saving grace. Like I said I still love to get out there and walk it off!! My opinion is you don't need to go thru a gym at all. Just get up and move!! BTW I also sing and dance with my music blasting while I clean house. Any kind of movement is great!!

    Puréed stage: Baby foods???

I tried baby food but I just couldn't get past the texture even the smell was too much for me. Good Luck It will get better for sure.
  9. I used Premier for 2 weeks Preop and 4 weeks Postop. I had the back door trots the whole time. Finally, my Surgeon told me that I was more than likely Lactose Intolerant. Thanks. I use GENEPRO unflavored protein I put it in my coffee every day. I have tried so many different proteins, I would hate to know how much money I have spent. Also MYLOPLEX rich dark Chocolate is god as is ATkins. Guard against buying too much protein before your WLS. So many people have their taste changes. Good Luck

    Clothing for Hospital

One thing I can say is make sure your clothes either snap or button because you don't want to lift your arms over your head. Slippers that don't slip hospital floors can be easy to fall on. A pillow might help for the ride home, if you have very far to go. Congratulations to you all.

    Surgery & Psoriasis

I had an RNY on July 2, 2013. I got to my goal weight in 6 months. Here are my stats: HW 249 SW 235 LW 117 CW 125 to 129#'s. I did have a few problems with Strictures (like scar tissue) and I had 5 Endoscopes with 4 dilations. Which started 3 months after my surgery which was Nov of 2013, Dec 2013, Jan 2014, July 2014 with my last one in Jan 2015. It has been good since. It was a bummer but it also was a quick fix. Thank you for the info about Sweet N Low. How funny, makes you wonder how really bad it is for us. LOL I do have it in my hair too. Try T-Gel shampoo. You can put some of the suds in your ears and even let it run down by your eye (of course keep it closed) Where in the Northwest do you live? I am also from the Pacific Northwest also. So I know about the sun. LOL We have Liquid Sunshine. Right. What part of the Northwest do you live? I live in Roseburg, Oregon. How funny. I am also fair skinned. I burn really quickly. Then I am deathly sick it just wipes me out. I also have a small patch on m forehead but it is getting better using the cream she gave me. Let me say this every kind of meds they have gave me those thick gooey junk that gets everywhere is the WORST. Wouldn't it be cool if we live close. Ok I will talk at you later. Have a good evening.

    Vet Search

I would love a group for us Vets!! If you decide to set one up please let me know. I am over 4 years out and to read this forum now is a little bit hard to relate to them. Some think they know it all and some jump to the quick when it is your opinion. So please let me know.

    Suggestions

It depends on your STATS: weight etc. There is a DR that does WLS's in Texas. He does surgeries on the larger sized people. He is on TV also. I think he is a pretty good Surgeon and he is a NO CRAP taker. LOL His name is DR. NOW, I can't say or spell his last name but you can look him up under "My 600# Life. Maybe this won't help you but I thought I would throw it out there. Also, the company that my hubby went thru had payment plans. I would not suggest them. It is BELITE. Don't go to Juarez, Mexico please!!! If you are interested I can give you the low down on it. Have a great Sunday!!
  14. It's definitely hard. But GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WORK HARD!!! I agree with FLUFFYCHIX. Start now and choose the one thing that you feel you will have the best luck with getting thru. Remember why you want to have WLS. Keep your eyes on the PRIZE!! Never give up!! And KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

    Surgery & Psoriasis

I have Psoriasis since I was around 13YO. It is awful the way people treat us!! I can say this and I'm not sure if it is all due to my WLS but it has helped so much. I usually have a huge breakout after Summer is over. I do think that is from being outside when I go for my walk, the sun works. Then there is the side that I can't handle much heat due to having a 3rd-degree sunburn when I was around 8YO. I am over 4 years out and I had a big breakout. I went to the Dermatologist hoping to get some of the new medication. She wouldn't give me the one that is a shot due to NOW GET THIS!! She told me that it might cause weight loss and that I didn't need to lose any more weight. WOW!! I am so used to being told that I am too fat. LOL Then she wouldn't give any meds before I went thru this bunch of bloodwork. LOL Thank goodness it got better. She did give me a cream for it. I really believe that mine gets worse with how high my stress is. Kind of hard to not stress when you have OCD going on. LOL Every month when I pay bills I get a few more patches. LOl I hope you get the relief you need. How bad is yours? I am classified as Moderate. But back quite a few years I had it everywhere. The DR wanted me to drive 17 miles 5 days a week for ultraviolet treatments. NOT!!! It is a horrible thing. I'm sure you have been there done that before. As I said above fingers crossed heck legs too that you get relief also. Take care and keep us posted on your journey.
  16. Back at you my friend!! I would say you are the TRUE WARRIOR!!! Look at what has been thrown at you!! And you still rise. Wait I think instead of a warrior you are the PHOENIX!!! You are knocked down and get back up to fight. You've definitely GOT THIS!!!
  17. I can definitely relate!! I have had Fibro for the last 17 years. I have Osteoarthur, I have had 1 back surgery and now have rods and Cadaver bones but man it sure helped me!! I couldn't straighten up when I got out of bed or stood up from my chair. I still have lots of pain but it seems like at least I'm not hurting every day. I had to quit my job and was put on high pain medications which I overdosed on and then it messed my brain up big time. I still don't have the mind to get things out I know what I am trying to say but I can't get it out. That was METHADONE!! I have lost my cognitive abilities. My crack of a Nurses Protectionist even gave Marinol, THC in a capsule form. But...with my weight loss Surgery and continued exercise, I can now say I am so much better than before. My WLS has saved me in so many ways. I hope everything works out for you. Look forward to following your journey. Hang tight it will get better.

How do you view overweight people now that your thin?

I can speak from the other end. I married my husband on Aug 27, 1973. He weighed 350#'s. I weighed 135#'s. I have always gone for BIG GUYS but their personality has some pull too and always older than my age. My husband was in the Navy and I was just a little bit in AWE, he had been around the world and here I was a 17YO country girl. I feel head over heels in LOVE with him. Do you know what we had in common? That's right food!!! It was our thing. Over the years I dieted and he did go on a few but never took it seriously. I weighed 285#'s not long before I had my RNY. But do you know what he said to me, I have never seen your weight I still see the woman I married 44Years ago!!! I told you he was a gem!! Fast forward a few years. On July 2, 2013, I had WLS, Sept 2013 he had a failed RNY surgery (due to his Band that he had for 13Years) So I lost all of my weight in 6 months and he later after much illness had his Sleeve in June of 2016. To this day there is NOT a mean bone in either one of us!! I would never hurt anyone that is heavy NEVER!!! I feel compassion for them. I would'nt have it in me to shame anyone as I have been shamed!! As for getting with someone that has a weight problem, if I was attracted to him YES I could and would date some guy that was 6.4 and a little on the heavy side. I have never had a problem with my hubby even when his weight got up to 520#'s. I can tell you this much this man was so strong!!!! It is so sad that now his body is feeling all of those years of his abuse!! He has lost over 250#'s. Now we don't have the FOOD FOCUS that plagued us for 40 years. Food isn't our thing now!!! Each other is our focus now.

Labs done outside of your surgeon?

That is so strange. I have never had any trouble having my PCP order tests. They even fax my results to my Bariatric Center. I know that people always say that DR.'s don't or won't take on another Dr's patients. I guess we live in an awesome area because I fired my Surgeon and went thru another Bariatric center. In fact, my hubby had a failed revision from Lap-Band to RNY and our PCP ask a fellow Dr to do the surgery to put in his Wound Vac. Great DR too. How much trouble can it be? Just check the darn box!! LOL
  21. Personally, I like the POWERCRUNCH protein bars. They taste great and here are the facts on them. 13 grams of fat 9 carbs 5 grams of sugar and 13 grams of protein. They have quite a few flavors and you can pick them up at Walmart. I have tried a lot of protein bars and I think these are my favs. I did try Quest and I didn't care for them. Each of us has to do whatever it takes and if that means having a protein bar to make your goal for protein, I see nothing wrong with it. KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!

    New here

Welcome!! It is so exciting when things seem to be going well!! This weight loss surgery will become even more exciting as you go along. Good Luck in whichever course you take. Keep us posted. I look forward to following your journey.
  23. You just reminded me of something that I said at a younger age. I never got to 200#'s even when I was prego with both of my kids. So I said something that was really dumb. I told everyone that if I got to 200#'s you might as well take me out and shoot me. Lo and behold I got to 200. Then I told everyone if I EVER get to the weight of 300 take me out and shoot me. Both times it just kept on creeping up!! At each of those weights, I told myself well being 200 isn't that bad RIGHT how about thinking seriously that I NEVER EVER wanted to weigh 300!! I did get to 285#'s. Gladly, no one took me out and shot me!! It isn't funny how things get pushed aside. I didn't believe I would ever weigh those weights. We all have things that we do horribly to ourselves.
