    Drinking Diet Soda

Give it a try if you want. Weigh the pros and cons. If you can tolerate and it impedes weight loss, then cut back or eliminate. For me, I can tolerate and diet soda doesn't effect my loss.

    I'm 21 and freaking out!

Everyone is different. For me, not much has changed in terms of alcohol. I can have few drinks just as I could pre-surgery. I don't notice getting inebriated any quicker. Same issue applies, however - alcohol calories will make it harder to lose weight. If you want realistic answer, I'd say take it slow, listen to your body, and accept calorie trade-off. I probably had first drink couple months post-surgery. I probably only drink once every couple weeks. But except for the calorie issue, I think I could have drink everyday if I wanted.

    Congrats!

    Kansas city area sleevers?

I had Hamilton last December. Good luck!
  5. Two or three moths post-op, I started occasionally drinking diet soda. Hasn't hurt me or slowed weight loss. If you do it, I'd do in moderation and listen to your body.
  6. I had same thing happen with my wife. I agree with everyone else that it's likely about anxiety, etc. I would just talk it through to get back on track. Good luck.

    Grazers Unite!

I have to watch my grazing. The weeks where my weight loss has stalled are the weeks where I'm grazing more. I think the key is not to "just stop" grazing but to figure out what it's about - depression, anxiety, boredom, avoidance - and try to deal with that issue.

    Best scale

I also use withings scale. The app provides a great chart that shows moving average for your weight loss and fat loss. Helps you see that things are moving in right direction even if one particular day scale says you're up a pound or two. Here's my chart. You can use the app w/o the scale. Other similar apps are Happy Scale and the Hacker's Diet at fourmilab.com.

    TWO month stall!

I agree on changing things up. I was hardcore low-carb but found when I increased carbs, weight starting coming off. I'm not saying that's what you should do. Just saying trying something new might be worth a shot. You mention grazing. That's also where I got in trouble. The more I stick to regular meals, the better for me. My worst weight loss weeks correlated with lots of grazing. Hang in there. You will figure it out. It just takes time to understand your body. You might also discuss Wellbutrin with your doc. It's in a different class from Prozac, but generally has less weight gain (and for some actually has weight loss) compared to SSRIs like Prozac. If you're open to it, you might also consider talk therapy. You're going through major changes, and trying every tool available is not a bad idea. You're not alone. Many of us have been where you are.
  10. I actually don't find it that difficult to imagine how she does it. If you're at home all day, it's possible to graze the whole day. Keep that up day after day and you will not lose, and you'll probably gain (albeit more slowly than if you hadn't had surgery). I don't think the constant grazing requires eating until you're in pain.

    where do you live?

Kansas City Missouri for me too.
  12. I was on 7 day. Was not compliant on two days. I regret it, but just being honest. I think most important thing is that if you do fail, tell your doctor. She is best-placed to decide if it's ok to do surgery, if she wants to ultrasound your liver, etc. My bmi was 35 when I scheduled surgery. I'd had an abdominal ultrasound from another doctor. So surgeon was not concerned that my failure meant my liver was too big for safe surgery. And me or anyone else being honest is not the same thing as telling someone in pre-op it's ok to cheat. It goes without saying that strictly following the advice and orders of medical expert is critically important. (Just feel the need to say that because I believe it and I don't want to be flamed by posters saying I'm condoning non-compliance.)

    Mederma or scar cream?

I found a prescription cortisone cream worked great.
  14. Btw, I think in several years it will be a requirement for Medicare certification that Bariatric programs be required to provide post-op psych sessions as often as the required post-op checkups (I.e. 2wks, 2mos, 6mos, 1year). At least I hope that happens. I think the psych part is that important that it should be. Post-op depression is super common. And I bet is very, very underreported.

    Dumping and sleeve

I'm three months post-surgery. Recently noticed I can't eat too much sugar at one time. No extreme feelings. Just kind of nauseated. But last night, I had ice cream. Have maybe had ice cream twice since surgery. Last night I had little more than I had in past. Felt very nauseated for an hour and ended up vomiting, which is only time I've vomited since surgery.
  16. Also, the BLIS woman above says there's a maximum benefit of $25-100k. I definitely was not told that when I bought it or in the information given to me. I still would have bought it, but it's a reminder to always read the fine print and ask for the actual policy and read it before signing. (I need to follow my own advice. I'm a lawyer who deals with insurance all the time, and even I missed this one.)
  17. I was self-pay and bought it. Had surgery 12/18/14. No complications, so I can't comment on how BLIS treats you then. It's like other disaster insurance. You're very unlikely to experience a disaster, but if you do, sure would be nice to be financially covered.

    My 600 pound life

Fat Doctors is way better. It's available on Hulu, btw. The patients on Fat Doctors are also a little closer to average weight of most pre-op patients. So I think you end up with stories that more people can relate to.

Sleep patterns are way off (wide awake!)

For me, weeks 2-4 were weird for sleep. Nights where I couldn't fall asleep. And then even next day, not sleepy enough to take nap. It was bizarre. But things returned to normal after those first few weeks.

    9 hours away

    It'll be great!
  21. That's awesome. Congrats! I was sleeved by Dr Hamilton (Hoehn's partner) on 12/18/14. Couldn't be happier.
  22. Cool. Well, hang in there. And good luck! I think all these things are easier when you're healthy, and you made a great choice in that department.

    Depressed from surgery

I think depression and sleep problems are common, whether related to trauma of surgery, side effects of narcotics, or normal buyers remorse. As far as sleep goes, I had a crazy two days a week out when I could not fall asleep. Slept maybe four hours over two nights. Does your surgery center have a psychologist? If you did a psych consult, I'd consider making an appt with that psych. Hang in there. It gets so much better.
  24. JenWith, are you part of law firm staff moving to KC? I ask because that was just in news today. I'm a lawyer in KC. I know it's tough to relocate, but for what it's worth, KC is a great town. Very welcoming. I moved here 7 years ago. I'd be happy to offer any advice on your move. Regarding sleeve, there are great support groups at KC Bariatric Center and St. Luke's Hospital.
