Are you hungry?
BusyHoosierMom replied to lucy0911's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 4 weeks post-op this Friday and I started feeling hunger again about a week ago. Not sure if it's all bad though- reminds me to stop and have a couple of bites. I'm still in the purée stage but still rely on protein shakes as my main source of protein. Puréed meats still feel like they get stuck but I can tolerate a few bites of cottage cheese. Surprising how little it takes to fill up. My fridge is full or "leftovers"! -
I was sleeved on 1/9 with Dr. Ortiz. I'm having trouble getting 64 oz of fluids in. I'm just so full so fast and don't feel any hunger. Room temp liquids go down best. Still on full liquids so I'm drinking cream soups and protein shakes. Need to find something that tastes good and has a lot of bang for the buck so I can get all my protein in. I'm down 9 lbs since surgery and a total of 42lbs from my highest weight last March. Still have soreness at my largest incision, but otherwise I feel good. Love reading how everyone else is doing and new ideas on how to manage each stage.

So is it worth the purchase to add to soups, etc?

What Bariatric vitamins and supplements did your doc recommend?

I'm feeling a lot better today, 4 days since surgery. Heading to the clinic for the leak test then off to the airport for a full day of travel. While the hotel has been very comfy, I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and hugging my babies;)

I'm one day post-op and feeling pretty well overall, just a little woozy. Today I've had two episodes of feeling hot, sweaty, and nauseous with dry heaves. I'm drinking small sips slowly and feel the gas bubbles come up as if I took in a bunch of air. I think the woozy feeling will wear off once the IV pain meds from this morning are metabolized. I'm just trying to rest today and hoping the nausea will stay away.

Made it to the Marriott in TJ. Had a rough start this morning with first flight delayed then missed connecting flight. Great thing is that the driver was there to pick us up and everything has gone smoothly since then. The Marriott is nice and very comfy. Surgery is tomorrow. Yippee. So excited! Good luck to all of you. See you on the other side. -

@mduffield- when I sent my travel plans to the concierge I received a reply that they will take me from the airport directly to the hotel then to be ready by ~6:30 Friday morning to go to occ. The dietitian said it was ok to have liquids Thursday and fast after 10pm for surgery Friday. My father-in-law is traveling with me. My husband is staying home with the kids because they're back in school and have resumed sports activities, etc. My FIL is retired and it made my husband feel better about the travel to have his dad with me. We get along fine so I'm ok with it. I'll be at the airport in less than 24 hrs. Can't believe it's almost time! -

I'm doing some last minute prep for the trip. I arrive in SD around 10 am Thursday and planned it that way to get pre-op done. Looks like pre-op will be Friday morning instead. I guess that's fine because I can at least have liquids while I travel. I'm right at 3lbs under goal but what if their scale weighs a little heavier than mine? Maybe it's silly to worry about that. I'm down a total of 35lbs since I started my at loss program with my former surgeon. My liver should be in good shape. I'm praying that after surgery I don't feel hungry and am able to stay hydrated and nourished enough to go back to work after a week. Getting excited and looking forward to having some "chill" time during recovery at the hotel. I don't get much of that with 4 kids and a FT job. ???? -

@@Jill Pill- your info about TJ has been helpful reducing my own anxieties. Hope things went well yesterday with your surgery and I'll be watching for an update. ???? @mduffield- it's almost time! Flying out early on 1/8 and surgery on 1/9! I'm down 13 lbs on the pre-op diet and am now just below my surgery goal weight. I increased the salads and the hunger wasn't as bad. Look forward to seeing you there! -

Anyone lose hair before surgery?
BusyHoosierMom replied to LisaLou30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my weight loss program (primarily low carb) around 6/1 and noticed more hair falling out when I washed it. I'm down 31lbs from my highest weight with the low carb diet and I've been taking a multivitamin, B12, Vit D, and Metformin for PCOS. I think my hair is thinner than it used to be, but my beautician doesn't think it's too thin. She suggested washing every other day instead of daily. Anyway, I don't know exactly why it's thinning, but must be due to the diet. Now I'm worried that I'll lose a lot more after my surgery. -

@ mduffield -I purchased the Vitaleph package recommended by the dietitian. I'm drinking a shake for breakfast daily. At first I made it with skim milk but found I like it better with just water. Sounds crazy but it's true. I've been eating an Atkins meal bar for snack, either a shake ( EAS AdvantEdge carb control) or meat for lunch and meat and veggie/salad for dinner. I need to cut out my 1 diet soda to reduce the caffeine. I drink bottled water at work- just not thinking about it enough to get it all in. The last two days in this job I've been on my feet and moving way more than when I was consulting. I need to find smaller water bottles I can stuff in my pocket. I'm dreading the 2 week pre-op diet because I know I'll be hungry too. I have a few more lbs to go to be at my required weight for surgery. The holidays will be a huge challenge. I have a history of nibbling on the goodies when we have gatherings at my house. I'm the one always in the kitchen and it's too convenient. Our surgery date is approaching quickly! I'm arriving early in SD on 1/8 and hope to be early on the surgery schedule 1/9- the more recovery time the better. I look forward to meeting you there! -

I've had an exciting week. I was offered a local position with the same company so I don't have to travel hours for work anymore! I started the new job yesterday and have been so busy that time is flying! It's nice to be close to home. I still will have time off for my surgery on 1/9 with Dr. Ortiz in MX. I applied for an expedited passport last Friday morning and was told it would take up to 3 weeks. I couldn't believe it when I found it in the mail TODAY! It took only one week! Now I just have to focus on sticking with my pre-op diet plan and getting in all my water each day. Hope everyone else is having a great week! -
Disappointed insurance denied
BusyHoosierMom replied to Mz. NuNu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear that. I understand how disappointing that is. I made it to pre-op on the day of surgery only to have my surgeon come in and say insurance denied that morning. I had even talked with insurance myself a couple weeks prior and was told it was covered. All they could say was sorry, that person was wrong. It's discouraging to hear, especially when you've done everything by the book to meet the criteria. Try to keep your head up. There are other options out there. You can appeal or you could explore the possibility of going to Mexico. After all the preparation, I don't want to wait any longer. I'm scheduled for surgery next month in MX. -
