Getting VSG in August at the age of 54
Sharon1964 replied to tab143's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved August of last year at age 51. I'm almost 11 months out now, have gone from 403 pounds to 232 pounds, and I'm doing great. The only moment of doubt I had, that I can remember anyway, is waking up in the recovery room, hearing some beeotch moaning like crazy, wishing she would shut the f*** up, and then realizing it was ME! At that moment I thought, "oh my god, what have I done". Then the morphine kicked in and I was fine. I can't think of any regrets I have, other than wishing I had done it 20 years earlier (but hey, our experiences make us who we are). That, and I'm not happy with my deflated "parts" but I plan on plastics in the next year or so. Last weekend I went to a pool party that became a "clothing optional" event after dark. Most of the people were skinny-dipping by that point, but I just couldn't do it, not with these saggy tatas. Sad because I would have done it at 400 pounds. I felt pretty good at achieving wearing a bathing suit because my saggy thighs were threatening to cause a tsunami. -

You posted this in two places, and I'm answering in both. Call your surgeon's office now and tell them. Your surgery WILL be cancelled. -

You're supposed to have surgery tomorrow. Please tell us you called your surgeon's office and they cancelled your surgery. Generally, they will want you to wait for at least one year after surgery to become pregnant. -
You mean you have more than the one ey.... uh... never mind.

What’s Your Favorite Summer Potluck Dish?
Sharon1964 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I make the spinach dip recipe from the back of the knorr Soup mix package, let it sit in the fridge overnight (or at least a few hours) to soften up, then use it to stuff cleaned raw mushroom caps. No worries about anyone double-dipping into a common dip bowl. -
I refuse to go through the scanners for a lot of reasons. I say "I have a medical issue" and ask to go through the metal detector instead.

Bonnie Raitt did it best: "I Can't Make You Love Me" Turn down the lights; Turn down the bed. Turn down these voices Inside my head. Lay down with me; Tell me no lies. Just hold me close; Don't patronize. Don't patronize me. [Chorus:] 'Cuz I can't make you love me If you don't. You can't make your heart feel Something it won't. Here in the dark In these final hours, I will lay down my heart And I'll feel the power; But you won't. No, you won't. 'Cuz I can't make you love me If you don't. I'll close my eyes, Then I won't see The love you don't feel When you're holding me. Morning will come, And I'll do what's right; Just give me till then To give up this fight. And I will give up this fight.

Stupid Choices = Stupid Outcome
Sharon1964 replied to Sharon1964's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh, and unemotional? On the outside yes. On the inside I started having anxiety yesterday. From my desk, I can see outside through a glass side door. If I couldn't see outside (like from our lunch room), I had anxiety. But sitting at my desk, I had anxiety because people could see in. There was no winning there. -

@Renkoss I used to work in mental health, but more of the every-day counseling setting. Now I'm in chronic pain, and a psychotic break is unusual in our setting. -

Stupid Choices = Stupid Outcome

I am starting to feel better, thank goodness. Psychotic dude has been in the waiting room twice today. The first time, we told him to pee in a cup for a urine drug test and he filled it with cold Water at the sink. He wanted meds and we said no. Then he left, went to his attorneys office, who tried to get him to go to the ER for a mental health evaluation, he refused, came back, asked for meds again, and I said no. He left, saying he would go to his primary care doctor and get his meds. Oh yes, and saying I would be out of a job by the end of the day (he thinks, apparently, that I am standing between him and meds). I called and gave the primary care office the heads up. It's almost 1:30 pm here, and I'm predicting we will see him again today. His delusions are as firmly in place today as they were on Friday. -
Well, you can tell her that if she is trying to express a feeling of wanting what someone else has, for example, a boyfriend, then the word she wants is ENVY, not jealousy.

The bodice is far too big, and this was at the end of the night when my head was killing me. These views don't do justice to the outfit. -
It's around 90 degrees outside, in the shade. In a closed car in the sun, it's a death sentence. Today a staff member came running into my office and said "call 911! Someone is passed out in their car". I grabbed my cell phone and ran outside. I saw a van, engine off, windows rolled up and doors closed, and a woman slumped over in the back seat. I yanked open the car door and the woman moved a little. It was one of our patients. I ordered one of the staff to go get our wheelchair, and I quickly got her inside, and covered her with cool wet towels, while someone got the doctor. She was not entirely coherent. During our questioning of her, it came out that she was severely depressed, bad situation at work, bad situation with husband. She couldn't explain what she was doing in the back seat of her van with the engine off. All she could tell us was that she came there because "it was a safe place." Before she left in an ambulance, I got her to promise that next time she needed a safe place, she would come into the building. Come sit in my office, as long as necessary. I'm not entirely convinced she was not trying to end her suffering. Any problems I'm dealing with right now are miniscule compared to what this person is dealing with. I'm reminded to be grateful. And I am.

How has your sex life changed since surgery/weightloss?
Sharon1964 replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'm unhappy that all my parts are now... deflated. On the other hand, I can easily put my ankles behind my head. So that's a win. -
It feels a little anticlimactic to say that sarcasm is my native tongue.

I would like to be "all things sex, relationships, and alternative lifestyles." Thanks!
