Got nekkid at work yesterday !
Sharon1964 replied to Dub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to run over here to see why Dub was getting nekkid at work. I tell you, none of you people ever post pics when it's needed! -
booo just kidding. Really I was going to say, what this thread really needs is pictures. You're welcome.

Each insurance company has many different plans. One may cover 100%, another may cover 50%. Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask them what your plan covers.

Any vegan/juicers ? Not sleeved untill nic 9th butttt....
Sharon1964 replied to Munecagirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is something you need to discuss with your nutritionist. My sister is vegetarian, and she had bypass about 15 years ago. She still has trouble getting in enough Protein, and her hair is still very thin and unhealthy looking (she is a hairdresser, so I figure if she can't make her own hair look good, it must be really bad). I believe that the reason juicing isn't a good idea is not the size of your stomach, but because it is very easy to drink too many calories. -
Sleeved 9/30 - Qs 4 those weeks ahead of me!
Sharon1964 replied to sleevedtbd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to lend my support. It WILL get better. When I was waking up in recovery, moaning loudly (I remember thinking, "will that chick SHUT UP!!!" and then realizing it was me!), one of my first thoughts was, "what have I done to myself??" I think that's really common. Now, two months out, 61 pounds down, I am so happy I had this done. -
You're hungry because you're eating sugar and carbohydrates (rice and tortillas). If you stick to Protein and vegetables, you'll feel better.

Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....
Sharon1964 replied to Awjones28's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am in a long distance relationship. Someone said to me, "after you lose weight, are you going to meet someone local?" ::blinkblink:: Sure, because the reason I'm in a long-distance relationship is because I can't get a man that wants to see me more often since I'm so fat! -
6 months post and starting to get nauseous of the mornings.
Sharon1964 replied to heav85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take your birth control pill at night, last thing before you go to bed. That way you won't be washing it out of your stomach with other things. I truly don't know if that is a problem, but by switching to the evening, you know it won't be. -
Gallbladder sludge, Actigall, Protonix and Sucrafate Oh My!
Sharon1964 replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gallbladder out years ago, due to stones. It took a full year for my digestive system to get back to normal afterwards. After surgery, I became lactose-intolerant, and a huge number of foods gave me indigestion that never did before. It took a year for those symptoms to go away. Since you are on a journey of changes right now, I would say have it taken out now, and go through all those changes at the same time, rather than heal up and then have to go through them again at a later date. -
A psychologist is not a medical doctor, so he really shouldn't be giving medical advice in a medical setting. In fact, I would go so far as to say it's outside his scope of practice. IMO (and you DID ask), you're setting yourself up for failure. You're not sticking to your pre-op diet, so what makes you think you're going to stick to the post-op eating plan? Many doctors won't operate unless you're smoke-free for a while before surgery (30-90 days, depending on the doctor), and you're still smoking.

Seriously. If I Celebrate being able to eat pizza two months after surgery, someone please slap me. HARD. One, my surgeon doesn't allow bread, Pasta, or crackers for six months after surgery. Two, if I wanted to keep eating the foods that got me where I am today, I wouldn't be having the surgery.

Yep, this. As a diabetic, I had to have certain foods in my purse - protein, raw vegies, and something for a quick bit of sugar if I got shaky. Once I pointed that out to a movie theatre manager, I had no problems whatsoever.

Sleeping 45 degree, for 4-6 weeks!?!
Sharon1964 replied to lauragp74's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm a left-side sleeper, and coming out of anesthesia in recovery, the first thing I did was grab the bedrail and turn over on my left. I've had no problem sleeping on my side and did it in the hospital. -
They won't, because the authorization date will be after your surgery. So if you have surgery on 10/1, and on 10/15 you are approved, your authorization will be something like 10/15/2015 to 12/31/2015.

Surgery on 9/9, nauseated daily
Sharon1964 replied to jaytnt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was on omeprazole for a month after surgery. A week or two after stopping it, I started getting nauseated, experienced heartburn and threw up a few times. Called my surgeon's office and they put me back on the omeprazole and said to continue for three months. -
What Does Full Feel Like?
Sharon1964 replied to Giarc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I misunderstood your original post. It sounded like you were eating and trying to feel full. And since I've never heard of anyone eating one cup that soon after surgery, well, I'm sure you can understand the confusion. -
I think it's a good thing that fear is a motivator in the beginning. Fear is what keeps me from eating things I should not. Gradually the desire for those things is lessening. The only thing I'm craving right now is when the Little Caesers pizza commercial comes on and they dip the cheesy bread in the marinara sauce. I swear I can taste it and I can feel the crunch in my mouth. LOL!

What Does Full Feel Like?
Sharon1964 replied to Giarc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At this stage, you should be eating about 1/3 cup per meal. At one year, you would be at the one-cup phase. Don't eat until you feel full. Eat your 1/3 cup and be done. IMHO, YMMV, yada yada yada. -
4 days post op - can't tolerate anything
Sharon1964 replied to J170's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition to everything above, I would suggest warm broth. Cold drinks at this point can cause stomach spasms. -
Well, that's the usual protocol, but that doesn't mean they can't give it a second try now. If your sample didn't have enough endocervical cells, and if you're pre-menopausal (I don't know your age), your doctor can prescribe vaginal estrogen cream which can make your endocervical cells "more available." If it just didn't have enough total cells, I would do a repeat pap now and if it comes back the same, wait the 2-3 months and try again. Not a doctor, yada yada yada.

Awwwww... shucks!

I have close friends in open relationships, some in closed poly relationships, some in open poly relationships, some in closed triads, etc. When someone brings up this topic (usually with some degree of horror), I always tell them that we must each make our own choices, and what is right for one person isn't necessarily right for another. Maybe the OP's man really is okay with her having her needs met elsewhere, as long as he is getting what he needs out of his relationship with her. Some people really don't feel jealousy. Some people don't feel jealousy if their needs are being met.

Should I tell my pcp about my surgery ?
Sharon1964 replied to quevedo05's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I guess that depends on if you brought him back a bottle of tequila or not! LOL! I wouldn't worry. -
confused about the approval process
Sharon1964 replied to losinglily's topic in Insurance & Financing
It could be Anthem Blue Cross of California (a for-profit company owned by Wellpoint) or it could be Blue Shield of California (a non-profit owned by California Physicians Service). They are separate companies in this state. The only plan I've ever seen that says Blue Cross/Blue Shield of California is the federal employees plan, and I think they do that because pretty much every other state does it. Federal employees are processed through Blue Shield of California.
