Perhaps you could elaborate. I didn't have a fasting phase.

Primary won't pay. Will my secondary?
Sharon1964 replied to suthernbel's topic in Insurance & Financing
The best answer I can give you is "it depends". Some secondaries insist you follow the rules of the primary, and then they will pick up the deductible and copay. This is for insurances that coordinate benefits. Not all HMOs coordinate benefits if they are secondary. Your surgeon should file for auth with the primary first, and if they deny, fill with the secondary, including the denial from the primary. Be prepared to appeal. In any case, your best bet is to call the secondary company and tell them the situation. Ask is they will cover if the primary won't. -
I was forced into the gastric sleeve.

I absolutely regret having this surgery
Sharon1964 replied to kaydeemacc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At three weeks are you still on purees? Or are you trying to eat regular food? -
Oh coffee, what a fickle lover you are. Couple of years ago, my doctor made me quit caffeine. Apparently I was drinking so much of it that it was affecting my heart rhythm. So I enjoyed my decaf, with one (allowed) cup of regular per day. sugar-free hazelnut creamer, always. When I was allowed to have the creamer again, after surgery. I eagerly had my first cup. Meh. It just wasn't the same. I was so looking forward to it, but... meh. So I waited. I tried it again. Flavor better, more what I remembered. But oh, what's this? Instant laxative, run to the bathroom! I'm five months out now. AND IT HAS NOT CHANGED! I cannot drink it anywhere but in my house, and then only if I'm constipated, because I'll be running to the bathroom. THIS IS NOT FAIR! NO ONE WARNED ME ABOUT THIS!!!! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Movies, popcorn cravings...
Sharon1964 replied to 280journey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know about 4 weeks out, but my theatre offers steamed edamame. Very filling, and it meets the desire for salt. I would think almonds or another salty, crunchy nut would be good, but again, probably not at 4 weeks. -
Yeah, I need to make my lazy butt do the experiments to see what it really is. Maybe the next time I have a long weekend - my office is not closed for Martin Luther King day tomorrow. The hazelnut creamer is non-dairy, sugar-free. The coffee is decaf. I don't have my gallbladder, had it out around 20 years ago. @@Dub I totally thought of you and your runs for coffee (no pun intended! hah!)

My wounds were sealed with surgical glue and steristrips. No restrictions on bathing/showering. No special care. Let the steristrips fall off on their own.

You look awesome!

The tone of his voice and the look on his face definitely conveyed negativity. And the fact that he didn't call me for our lunch date kinda confirms it. It's okay though, I have nothing invested in this guy. His loss.

I don't know WHAT I was thinking. A friend of mine caught me in a weak moment, and I agreed to teach a class on The Five Love Languages the day before Valentines Day, for a local kink group. I've taught this class several times in the past. I can see how this one is going to go... Q: Are you in a relationship now? A: No, I just broke up with my man of 4 years because he was no longer speaking my love languages.

Anyone have Blue Shield CA? question....
Sharon1964 replied to reachbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a member, you have the right to have access to the medical policies at Blue Shield. I would call back and ask for a supervisor. While you're at it, ask them to mail you a full benefits booklet and a copy of the bariatric surgery requirements. -
During the class I hand out a questionnaire to determine your love languages. Mine are the same as yours, by the way. Then we go over each language, and I give examples of how to speak each one. Then we talk about how we express love towards others, and how we receive it, which isn't necessarily or usually the same. I express love by Acts of Service, but I receive by Physical Touch and Words of Affirmation. This means I do things for people so they will tell me how awesome I am. I did this for years and years before I read the book and discovered that's what I was doing. For any get-together I would bake some serious Desserts, and I always got the praise I was looking for. We talk about moving out of your comfort zone and how to do that if your partner's language is not one you're comfortable speaking. The whole thing takes about two hours. For the kinksters, we talk about power exchange relationships and how to incorporate the languages into the various types of PE relationships.

Well it's 11:15 am on "lunch date day" and I still haven't heard from him, so I'm guessing it's a no-go. That's okay. The experience though, has certainly given me some things to think about.

I had my gallbladder out 22 years ago, At that time, they kept you for a week in the hospital, on IV painkillers. It took me a year from surgery to truly get back to normal. After surgery, I developed lactose intolerance, and a lot of foods I previously had no problem with gave me indigestion. I particularly remember Peanut Butter giving me horrible indigestion. Around one year, I noticed that those things resolved themselves.

Why is he recommending RNY? My doctor gave me specific reasons why he was recommending the sleeve for me instead of RNY.

Trying fruits and veggies after surgery
Sharon1964 replied to kjt1994's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut said no raw vegies for 3 months. Soft fruits were earlier, but no pineapple (too fibrous) and no grapes (unless you peel off the skins) until much later. -
Family likes to eat out
Sharon1964 replied to readyforachange84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I usually order a Water with lemon because people just don't get it that you don't want a drink. I may take a couple of tiny sips of it. I've had waitstaff ask me if there was something wrong with my food. I just tell them it was great, can I have the rest of it to go please. I go to meetings at restaurants on a regular basis and I usually order a steak and with the leftovers I can have 3 more meals out of it. At Denny's recently I ordered off the senior menu (no one asked my age). It was a plate with one egg, two sausage links, toast (gave to my mom), and a bowl of fruit (ate a couple of grapes and gave the rest to my kid). At Marie Callendars I usually order the hot artichoke/spinach dip appetizer, and ask for celery sticks instead of chips. At least half goes home with me in a to-go box. -
Oh Lordy me ... a new NSV !
Sharon1964 replied to MrsKarenC2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every summer since 2008 (except 2015, when I had WLS), I've flown to Florida to Celebrate my birthday. Girlfriends fly in from all over; sometimes it's just a couple of us, one time it was almost 30 of us. In recent years, I have been flying first class (although on some airlines I still couldn't put the tray table down). I scrimp in other areas to afford it. I simply didn't want the humiliation of not fitting into a regular seat anymore. So I booked my summer 2016 flights already. I debated with myself... regular seat... first class... hmmm, what to do? I splurged and I'm going first class, this time because I CAN, not because I have to! And I'm looking forward to no more seat belt extender! -
I have always been very open about my surgery, so it wasn't that I was treating it like a secret, even though I called it that. I didn't want to look high-maintenance (because I'm not) by rejecting the places he was suggesting. I do have far bigger secrets that have to come out sooner rather than later, like my kink side. I don't want someone to get hugely invested in me and me in them and then for us both to find out they're far too vanilla to be compatible with who I am. Mr. Hot already knows about my WLS, so it wouldn't have been the same situation. However, you make a very interesting point - I'll have to give it some thought.

HELP! Cant stop eating!
Sharon1964 replied to nn1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why did you eat the watermelon? Was it something you were feeling emotionally? Physically? Identify the problem, identify the goal, set a timeline, identify the obstacles to the goal, and how to resolve them. If the problem is physical hunger, and your goal is to stop snacking, the obstacles might be the Snacks sitting around. How to resolve that might be to eliminate the presence of the snacks. You might set a timeline of 2 days with no snacks. Plan out all your meals and beverages for those two days. Write down everything you eat and drink. It's only two days, you can do it. Then after two days, review what happened. Were the obstacles accurate? Did you discover other things that were going on? -
