After doing the research for my husband who had the lap band surgery on 17 May 2007 I realized that I did not have to settle for the 234 pounds on my 5 foot 2 inch body. The pains in my back, knees and feet did not have to stop me from doing things I wanted to do. The feeling of inadequacy and low self esteem that being overweight all my life brought with it didn’t have to be. All the diets that failed and all the depression that went with it could be changed. Lap band is helping me where other things couldn’t and didn’t. I am not starving all the time, I don’t think about food every minute of the day. I exercise now and love it. I like the person I am and the lap-band has helped me get to this point in my life. The support we receive from Dr. Treen, Karen, Michele and the rest of the staff along with the monthly Lap-Band Support Group meetings is a huge contributing factor in my success and that of every other weight loss surgery patient they have. Thanks to Dr. Treen and his staff from the bottom of my heart for the health of my husband and myself. Mary Grisaffi

The above was written several years ago. I had gotten down to 154 in Nov of 2009 but since then I have let myself slip and gradually have been making more and more bad food choices and I have not been exercising on a regular basis. I have many stressors in my life right now and I never learned to deal with them after the WLS. Eating used to be my comfort and I guess it still is (in smaller quantities now but more often). I am back up to 176 and struggling to get back on the band wagon. I don't really think I need a fill but I do need to be accountable to someone or some group. I need to see if I can find a good lap band support group that meets often. I will be 59 years old on May 11, 2012 and I really wanted to be at my goal and maintaining so that I could think about a tummy tuck and my upper arms being done but now I have this 26 pounds to lose and I feel like a failure again. Just being honest.
