A patient died after surgery with Dr. Elias Ortiz at A Lighter Me!
Edavidson replied to SuninVirgo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thank you honey for your response, I was very curious. I don't usually do FB as I am on the computer for 12 hours a day at work. Have a good evening and I am looking forward to hearing about your success. On another note, before I go, I have been asked not to reply on anything under the original posting. It is someone's concern that we are harming the reputation of her physician by discussing some of the negative issues regarding WLS. So I will keep up with you on another topic site. -
A patient died after surgery with Dr. Elias Ortiz at A Lighter Me!

I am so cold all of time. Before my surgery I was always hot and flashing, now I freeze to death all of the time. I have to wear a sweatshirt at work at my desk. Has anyone else had this problem. No one has ever mentioned it so I was just wondering. I have no more hot flashes. I am 61 years young so I guess I should be happy, right! -

Future Skinny Girl: I am so happy that you are going to take that extra step. I am sure you will be just fine. I totally agree with WLS, I would just like to see more patients take a few extra steps before they begin their Journey. I don't blame my physician for my problems, I believe that I would have had a positive outcome had I been more proactive with the status of my health before I began. People do die from all kinds of surgeries, physicians are people too, they can't save everyone. However, we can lesson the chance of these things happening if we are true to ourselves about health pre-op. Thank you for responding and you will be feel much more confident after you know you are in good health going in. Good luck to you on your journey to a new, healthier life. -

I don't believe I said a word about Dr. Ortiz. I was not bashing any physician, I simply stated that we should take the time to consider what we are doing when it comes to our health. Anything can go wrong in surgery and I am the first to admit that I should have considered the status of my health before I made my decision. I also stated that most people never have a problem. I think that you misunderstood my post. I am just saying that sometimes bad things can happen when we make decisions regarding our health. I don't know Dr. Ortiz and I certainly am not going to bash someone I don't know. -

I have not posted in a while, I have been so busy. I have lost 108 lbs. and July 10th I will be 7 months post op. I am still throwing up constantly. I have gotten to where I hate to eat because I know I will be sick for hours. I know that most people do perfectly fine. It would be my wish for anyone thinking about weight loss surgery have a lot of testing done before you go through with the procedure, especially if you are going out of the country. Sometimes when we want something really bad we don't stop to ask ourselves if we should or if there might be a safer way. This, is a major, life changing surgery and it is better to stop and consider if it is really the right thing to do. I wish I had... yes I have lost a lot of weight and everyone is always saying how good I look but I am really paying a steep price. You may not have a single problem but someone will have to go through what I am going through and I would not wish this on my worst enemy. I am so tired of being sick, having heart burn, feeling like my chest is going to explode. Will I live longer now that I am thinner, maybe. But my quality of life has been diminished drastically and it is my fault because I didn't stop to ask myself if I should. I just jumped in the water and started drowning. For all of those people who are about to go on this journey i wish you all the best and pray you will be one of the many who do just fine. -
Height Weight BMI and Lbs lost so far!?
Edavidson replied to alindsey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been trowing up since the day of my surgery. I can only eat a bite or two before I am sick. I tried the chew, chew, chew. It doesn't work for me, meat makes me really sick. I can't eat much and I throw randomly throughout the day or evening. I stay hungry all of the time. I would rather not eat than to be sick. How is your weight loss coming, do you get sick at all. -

I was sleeved on December 10, 2014. I have just passed my 6 months post surgery date. I am down 101 lbs. from 317 to 216. Size 24 to 16 and I feel so good. I still have a problem eating and throwing up but I guess I am used to it. I was losing 8 to 10 lbs. a month but last month I only lost 4 lbs. I hope to meet my goal by my 1 year anniversary. -

gastric surgery is a major operation. it really does affect your entire body. I have heard of people getting depressed, extreme exhaustion, so I guess it should not be a surprise if it turns out to be the surgery. -

If you don't have a change soon, you might want to go see your GYN just to make sure nothing is going on. You never know what can happen after you have surgery. Scar tissue, hernia's and who knows what else. Just to be on the safe side. I had problems after my surgery that were life threatening. Please follow-up and don't let it slide. -

Do you exercise strenuously? I have heard that some women miss when they are very active? I really don't think that the surgery would be the culprit. -

Edavidson replied to kraface's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations Cara, this is the beginning of a new life for you. After you get home from surgery and the weight starts to come off you get this enormous feeling of relief. You will notice that the more you lose the energy you will have. It is not easy, the surgery is just a tool and if you use it wisely you will have success beyond your dreams. Good luck to you and we will all look forward to hearing about your accomplishments. -

OMG! everyone has done so well. -
Everyone is so different, some have a lot of pain, some have no pain or very little, some get sick at their stomach and some do not. They put a nausea patch behind my ear before surgery but I still was so sick at my stomach They gave me morphine and really strong nausea shots. I was in six days the first time but most people are only in the hospital for two days. It is very rare to have have major complications, I was just one of the unlucky ones but I am so happy with my weight loss and the way I look now. I have lost 91 lbs. in five months and it is just amazing. I can't be still and I am walking all of the time. I put on my comfortable shoes, out the door and I don't go back until my legs are killing me. You still have to work at your diet, especially after five or six months out. You start to want things again that you shouldn't have. The goal is to take all of your food in moderation. This is a lifetime commitment. Don't eat too much or you will pay for it with terrible gas or nausea. Trust me, it is worth it all.

Type 1 Juvenile Diabetic getting sleeved.... Soooo Ready!
Edavidson replied to Litzy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Litzy: Your story touched my heart, I almost started crying. I too wanted to live again, I would not go anywhere because I was so disgusted with myself. My highest weight was 317 lbs. I was dying, literally. My health had become so bad that I was in and out of the hospital constantly with every problem that comes from morbid obesity. The last time I was in the hospital the Dr. told me I would not live much longer if I didn't do something about my weight. On December 10, 2014 I had my sleeve surgery and five months later I am 91 lbs down and off all medication. I walk three miles everyday and I am constantly on the move doing things I haven't done in years. I feel so wonderful now and so happy to be alive. I wish you all the best and you will be in my prayers. I can't wait for you to regain control of your life. -

I am five months out and still feel like I have chocking feeling. You try to get it up and you can't it really is painful. Almost as bad as taking that one bite to many and you are doubled over in pain This is a lifetime change and I know it gets better over time. we just have to be patient. The weight loss it worth it. I am at a stall right now, I lost a lot of weight at first, I think I have hit a stall and it is really upsetting. I have been walking a lot, hoping it will jump start my weight loss again. I have lost 91 lbs so far and I want to lose 50 more. I hope to have it all off by my first year anniversary.
