Largest incision site opened
emsgirl114 replied to livingmore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all! I went. I went to the urgent care. They did X-rays and blood work. My WBC was above normal ranges but not significantly so that means I do have a slight infection or on the verge of one. They said the hematoma formed an abscess. So I would of been a lot sicker in a few days. On oral antibiotics and a shot of antibiotics (that hurt like hell). The xray showed some air in the sleeve but nothing alarming or leaking. But they'll send radiologist to read. I was glad to see my stomach on film and it does look like a banana. Lots of blood work. They cleaned it out so nicely and put steri strip over it. Already feel better. At least cared for. -

I'm gonna go to urgent care here in a few. Woke up this morning and blood everywhere. Had chills and sweats all night. It looks better after shower this morning but need to be sure. Thank you everyone. I think it is probably fine but I'm not feeling well and should feel better at 11 days out. I feel sick. And the combo scares me -

I'm ten days out this is it just now. Sorry it's gross. I really could use advice. I don't want to go to urgent care because if it's fine like my surgeon said then I'm wasting $75. But the surgeon has not seen it since day 3. I keep calling and they are not hearing me or I'm not hearing them. -

Dark old blood. Looks like jelly. No burning on edges or redness. When it first openned up my bp dropped to 96/72. But went back up to normal in about 20 minutes. The oozing is getting to be less and less. But still gross. And scary -

He saw in hospital. I keep calling and they say just let it drain. I may just go to urgent care. That was day 2 or 3. This was the next day. Now it's lighter. And draining -

How long did it take to stop. My initial bleeding 5 days post op was like a waterfall of grape jelly. My poor 19 year old son had to rescue me. Did like you and 4 days later still drain albeit little -

And So Our Journey Begins...

You are an inspiration. I wish I would have done this at your age and not waited till my 40s. I got the lapband 11/12/12 my weight that day was 252. I got down comfortably to 175ish but started having problems with constant vomiting of even water. Around 3/14 I was at my sickest dropped another 10 pounds but was obviously sick. Had band opened about 1/2 way and gained 30 pounds in a month. And could only hold down creamy starchy sugary foods. Aka ice cream and lattes. So tried everything till finally a friend told me about a surgeon who wouldn't make me jump through hoops to transition. She was in the same boat and was about 6 week sleeved. I called and he happened to have a cancelation that day and also a surgery cancel for 3 weeks later. He called my bcbs and pleaded my case and here I am 10 days sleeved. We didn't even bother with the regular insurance process. I was 5'7 199 lbs and not diabetic. Is be denied. But he called and explained that I would be sick within a few months with in and regain it all with the band out and then sick. Somehow they agreed. My surgeon is quite charming. So here I am. 4 days shy of turning 46, sleeved 10 days ago. Weighted in at 189 today! 10 down! No goal weight. Pants size goal sz 8 or lower permanently. Sz 14 as of surgery. Haven't ventured our of yoga pants yet! -

You all rock. I've had incision issues but haven't wanted to be alone yet. But today I will be. Actually my pitbull and chihuahua haven't left my side and won't. Best nursemaids ever. -
So I'm a little week post op the sleeve but I'm transitioning from the lapband. The mind plays horrible trucks on us. After losing 60 pounds being near my HS weight, is look in the mirror and cry because I saw the same exact body as before the wls. I'd be so bummed id stray from my plan or spend hours googling images of women with my dimensions which helped a little. Seriously we need to remember that no matter how thin we are this is this body we stared at for a lifetime that won't let us embrace the new us with out a battle. By the time I got that my band and I were not working together anymore. But...this time around I'm not letting numbers or even the mirror get me down. Ok I an addicted to weighting myself too. But it's about being strong and healthy. The other stuff will follow. And hey 20 pounds down is 20 pounds down.

What should I take to the hospital?
emsgirl114 replied to Moneen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They gave me Chapstick. I suggest a hairbrush and toothbrush. The codeine they gave me was on liquid form so that helped so much with the sore throat. -
U need to call your surgeon. Swelling in the feet can be a sign of other post op issues. The weight loss will come. Your edema needs to be checked out ASAP.

I can relate. After I had my band people did treat me different. Like they did when I was skinny and young. It was uncomfortable and actually made me angry. I'm not a better person cause I'm thinner. I'm the same inside now as I was then. And then someone made a fat joke about a girl who had just left the room I was in. I about lost it. After that I found myself gaining weight and sabotaging all my hard work. But I'm back and now realize I can advocate respect and dignity when I hear those things and remember the people that loved me at 260 pounds and still love me when I get to 160 are the ones I want in my life. The new ones that come in to my life and understand this journey and or treat it or me and others with dignity and respect can stay. Those that don't will not be a part if my life. Good luck to you. Love yourself. Be in control of your own life :-)
