Hey All, I was sleeved on December 29, 2014 and I have to say, that this is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I'm proud to say that I have lost 40 lbs. as a result of this surgery. I have more energy, my body doesn't ache, I sleep better, can play with my daughter and am a better wife. Everything has been positive and I've never been happier. I have a ton of support and haven't met a person that has made me feel bad about my decision. My one and only negative experience happend yesterday (3/17/15) at a follow-up appointment. I was super pumped about this visit and felt good that I've lost 40 pounds in 79 days. Until my unpleasant visit with my doctor's assistant. Not one time during my brief visit with her, did she have one positive thing to say about my successful weight loss. The first thing out of her mouth was....you've only lost 40 pounds? I looked at her in disbelief at what she had said. She then went on to tell me that my weight loss is "way behind" and she is concerned that I'm doing this all wrong. She expected that my weight loss would be at a minimum of 60 pounds this far into my journey. It was explained to me by my doctor that.. 1. Everyone is different and the weight loss is different for each person...2. women lose weight naturally at a slower pace then men. So I'm a little confused about her statement and her overall poor response to me. I asked her what my goal was for my next appointment which would be the 6 month mark, she replied,"lets just get to the 60 pound weight loss that you should've already been at." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME????? I was crushed and the tears began to flow. I exited out to the waiting room and was told that I needed to stay for blood work. After the blood work, I immeditaley left the office and promptly fell to pieces in the car. I haven't sobbed like that in a very long time. I have never been made to feel that way in my life, even when I was at my biggest. I called the office after I left to schedule the follow up that I failed to schedule prior to leaving becuase I couldn't speak. I did let them know what transpired and that I refused to be seen by her ever again. What I've read from most of the posts is that I'm on track and everything is normal. I just can't believe it.

December sleevers How are you all doing ?

I was sleeved on 12/29 and have lost 23 pounds since surgery. I started my soft food diet yesterday. It's going very well. Still learning to eat slow and giving my stomach a chance to tell me that it's full before it's too late. Luckly I haven't gotten sick. I seem to getting most of my protein and a good portion of fluids. Timing is key! I went for my 2 week checkup yesterday (1/12/15). Incisions look great and they were super excited that I lost that much weight. I suppose to go back in 4 weeks but will be out of town 2 weeks in a row in February. So...it'll be a 6 week checkup. Doctor did say to stay between 600-800 calories a day. I started walking on the treadmill last week and felt good. Lets see if I can continue putting up big numbers and staying focused. -

Danielle, First off...congrats on making this decision and your success on your 6 month pre-diet. I was sleeved 11 days ago. I was sleeved, had a hitial hernia repaired and had my gallbladder removed. The only pain that I felt was in my chest from my hernia surgery. I did have bouts of extremem dry heaving (vomitting) but after a few days I was fine. I would say by day 3 I was good. I slept on the couch for a few days for the support to my stomach. If you have a body pillow use it to support your tummy. I haven't been sick and able to get my Protein in. I've had issues with dehydration but thats being fixed by drinking more Water. I have lost 15 pounds post-op. It's a really neat experience. I was fortunate to see 3 loved ones sleeved prior to being sleeved myself. My husband was sleeved in December 2013 and has lost over 130 pounds, my father was sleeved in June 2014 and has lost 80 pounds and a really good friend was sleeved in May 2014 and had lost 104 pounds. Just make sure you surround yourself around positive people and people who've done this, the support helps out alot. Best Wishes, Michelle (Texas) -
I am 10 days post-op and noticed a change in the color of my urine. It's almost as dark as tea....only way I can describe. It doesn't appear that there is blood in my urine, it's just really dark. I only drink water and low calorie jucies as directed. Any idea, could it just be my body is adjusting or reacting to the changes? Maybe I'm not drinking enough water?

I slept on our overstuffed couch the first 5 days. I faced the super stuffed pillows and this helped a lot. Once I made it to the bed I used my maternity body pillow to wrap around me for comfort and support. I can sleep on my right side and back comfortably as before. The left side not so much this seems to cause pain so I avoid.

Itchy insicions?

I'm day 9 and mine started itching today. I have bandaids on them to prevent rubbing on my clothes. I gently rub my stomach on the outside of my clothing to get some relief. It's totally normal....it's a sign of healing. -

I weighed 265 at the time of surgery on 12/29/14 and today 9 days later 250 (15 pounds lost). I feel great! -
Hi, my name is Michelle and I'm on Day 2 of my Pre-Op diet. My requirements are two-three protein shakes a day and a healthy meal no more than 450 calories. I was able to consure 100 ounces of fluids to stay hydrated and did well for the most part. I had a terrible headache yesterday and felt very sluggish. Any suggestions on curbing the headaches and sluggishness? I started my walking/stair climbing program today. I have a desk job and set a timer on my phone to walk/climb stairs every 30 minutes. My surgery is scheduled for December 29th. My husband had his gastric sleeve surgery December 2013 and is down 125 pounds. I'm so looking foward to feeling better. Thanks for reading.

Tell me about your surgery timeline pls

I started the process in November 2014 and am scheduled for sugery on December 29th. My insurance does cover the procedure but the requirements were crazy and my part would be $5,000. I completed (2) sleep studies to confirm sleep apnea, endoscopy, stress test, EKG, blood work, met with dietician and now I'm ready. During the summer, I was diagnosed with gallstones. My surgeon will complete the gastric sleeve, repair hiatial hernia and remove my gallbladder all at once. My total cost was less than $3,000 for the whole procedure. My doctor was able to bill the insurance for most of the procedure due to my gallbladder. He is magic! He did the same for my husband who had the surgery a year ago and is down 125 lbs. I'm on Day 3 of my pre-op diet and feel great. -
Gastric Sleeve weight loss Men vs. Women
mns112182 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband had gastric sleeve surgery December 2013 and has lost 125 pounds. We have the same doctor and I'm scheduled for surgery December 29th. He mentioned to me that Men lose the weight faster than women. I know this is true just dieting in general, but why is this? Does anyone know the rate difference? What should I expect average monthly weight loss should be? I know everyone is different and it varies but I was just curious on how much of a difference between men and women? -
That's what I figured. Thank you.
