Disappointed in self- Pre Op Diet
Laurac727 replied to avermette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my two week preop and I have a list of things I have to eat every day without fail and unlimited non starchy veggies, so I don't think your broccoli splurge will hurt. I do agree with the chicken broth and you can mix a unflavored or chicken flavored protein drink in it also. I got to tell you I traveled for work these last three days and I was so thankful when we went to a buffet Wednesday night to have warm cooked vegetables instead of salad and shakes. Those warm things that are savory are helping but yes it is tough. I think we all in one way or another cheat or adapt to what we have to do, that clear liquid and preop part right before is extreme important, as a nurse I can say that. Not that shrinking liver back is not important but empty clean system is imperative. And these are just my opinions as I am only in this preop one week now and chose to travel during the first week for work which made it a HUGE challenge to be with coworkers eating normal in front of me. BUT I SURVIVED IT and we all will!!! -
Started my pre open diet
Laurac727 replied to fox99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day three, surgery is March 23rd. So far so good for me. Leg cramps my only issue. I get unlimited non starch veggies on mine so I eat them if feel like I need something -
I have been using the isopure and my favorite so far us plain unflavored I can add it to broth, crystal lite or make it any flavor I want. works great
-
you can try unflavored plain protein powder and put it in your broth or such and will not be sweet. that works for me

My date is 3/25 and up to now I have only told my husband and kids. I have a mentor that had RNY 8 years ago and she knows. Well then my parents were in the house when I got a call from the center, so now they know. I don't want any others to know, I want to keep this private medical business. I have been working and have lost weight already, they know I work hard on it. When someone at work asks why I am gone for surgery or something, we just have been saying gall bladder out and some work due to that. Everyone knows that is a true fact for me, I have been battling my gall bladder for two years so that part is true and they are going to take out my gallbladder during the surgery and my bile ducts have stones also so cleaning on them. So I am not totally fibbing I am just choosing not to tell the whole thing. I really feel that I don't have to and should not have to let someone know my private health issues, so I have stuck to that decision and threatened my family to keep it zipped up on it. Good luck and I do not blame you at all, understand it all

Pre-op diet = protein shakes only
Laurac727 replied to Smal2015's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today was my first day on the preop diet also and I feel like I am going to bust open with over fullness!! I know that sounds weird but I have felt that all day long and it is not going away yet this evening. So it will definite take time to get used to. I am using isopure, unjury, and premade premier protein. So variety is not an issue it is just I feel stuffed. It may be nice if that feeling stays for the two weeks in many ways. We shall see. Next three days I travel for work so my luggage is overstuffed with stuff that is required but it is my only trip before surgery so I got this. -

MARCH 23rd Got my date!
Laurac727 replied to Laurac727's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't weird that all of us have a different pre op diet and phase?? As a nurse, I find that totally odd. But I am known to over think things medically. It must be that theory from the masters years. HA! Anywhooo we are forming quite a group of March surgeries. I am on my fitness pal if we want to join there for day to day mentor and support and a group on there I am in too. ID is same as this, lord knows I am logged on that minimum of three times a day! -
Funny today I had sirloin strip on the grill and barbeque pork rib with homemade macaroni and cheese. So there you have it I had to have steak and ribs too. Its over I start the preop in the morning for two weeks. So here we go I am finally there!! I got my cabinet organized with flavors and protein powders the ninja out and on the counter. I got this lets move on now

My surgery date is March 23rd also and yes since I found out that date on Thursday, I have been having food funerals also. Tonight was olive garden sad goodbye but it is over for us and I bid them adieu on leaving. Tomorrow I a grilling a steak and having that last wine with it. Monday starts the preop. Funny I did not overdue anything but yes I have the same thoughts

Laurac727 replied to smjaws's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel every thing you are saying. I just got my date today and it is March 23rd. I have been working on this forever it feels like. I am not a nursing student, but I am a master degree nurse and I understand every single thing you are saying about the job and your feelings. I have an excellent job that I would not trade for anything now but I do remember well the interviews and the judgment due to weight. Just keep telling your 12yr old the positives and why you are doing it and she will buy in very good and know that mom is doing it to be with her longer. Also I started at 298 and am 5ft5 right now down to 250 so we really are close in many ways. Keep your chin up and contact me if you need anything at all. You got this if you can do this during nursing school come on that makes you crazy or strong or both!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
March 23rd here!! good luck to you!!

Tips for newbies to transition before surgery
Laurac727 replied to GADeltaDawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also preop since Nov and I have quit all caffeine, all carbonation, no sugar, no alcohol. No drinking 15min before eating and 30 min after eating. Small bites, chew so many times to make pureed in mouth before swallowing. doing every single thing my NUT tells me to do. Then came physical therapist. Well she put me on hold last month to get cardio condition and blood pressure in acceptable range and NUT wants me back again too. So back I go for Feb 11 date to see if they will pass me to surgery date yet!! starting to get really disheartened and frustrated with the wait, I have done everything they tell me so just waiting and waiting at this point. Do everything they tell you and everything you can before, or you wont move forward
