Too Small For Surgery
SeahawksFan replied to FOXYLADYA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would try another nutritionist or surgeon. My BMI was only 31 and I had it done. I only had sleep apnea and some heartburn. It's totally up to you on if you tell friends and family but I decided not to because I didn't want to hear that I didn't need to do it. It's my life. I was tired of yo yo dieting and I know there's no guarantee that I will keep it off but I am going to give it my best shot. Good luck- Lorie -
I think at the end of the day that's the best victory. No one knows how much you weigh so losing inches is way better win in my book. Nice job Elode! It's pretty amazing that you can lose that much on just a calf in such a short amount of time. Have a great day- LA

BMI 31 - VSG? Would love to hear experiences of similar...
SeahawksFan replied to Tubbs216's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 45 and My BMI was 31 as well and didn't really have much health issues except sleep apnea and occasional heart burn. I chose to do the surgery because I was a yo yo dieter and wanted something to help me long term. Also with every diet I did I was always starving so very crabby all the time. Yes you have to make smart food choices and workout but I've found it much easier since I am not constantly thinking about food and irritable. (BTW I was working out 5 days a week but still had a BMI of 31 so that part was easy for to start backup after surgery) I had to self pay as my insurance would only cover it if my BMI was 35...I thought about gaining 20 lbs but then realized I'd be miserable so started looking at the costs. I was too scared to go to Mexico and did not have to travel as I found a great place local. I ended up using my Health Savings Account which is tax free money. You just have to have a letter stating it's not cosmetic. My insurance has paid for the blood work and nutritionist cost. And the phsych so that was a nice bonus I wasn't expecting. Was it worth it? Hell YEAH!! I am only 9 weeks out and I am wearing a size 2 I am smaller than when I did weight watchers, Nutrisystem, HCG, Phen Phen etc. and I feel like I can keep this going. I never felt that way on the diets I was doing. It was always hard to stick to 1200 calories. I was always hungry. Good luck- LA -
Ugh, so disappointed with my holiday weight gain...

Comparison: VSG to C section?
SeahawksFan replied to laurenella82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I thought they were pretty comparable. I didn't have any complications but it wasn't a walk in the park either. I did not have any drains. I am sure that must add to the pain and healing. I do wish I would have taken more than one week off to recover. The doctor said 1-2 and I had a friend who was fine after 5 days so I thought I would be so prepare for the worst and be pleasantly surprised. -
My surgery was Oct. 30 and I've lost 32 lbs. I haven't run into any stalls yet but I also don't have a ton to lose so mine has been slow and steady over the last 2 months but I am really happy.

Anyone sleeved at EVERGREEN HOSPITAL? Kirkland, WA
SeahawksFan replied to dreamingvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live right by there but I had my surgery at Puget Sound Bariatric Center in Lynnwood. I had it Oct. 30 and couldn't be happier. Everyone there was super knowledgeable and friendly. My insurance didn't cover the surgery because my bmi was only 31 but they did cover the Nut and Psych. Plus all the blood work. I used my HSA to cover the surgery. Good luck -

professional 52yo worried about perception of other members of upper management?
SeahawksFan replied to scared52yoguy!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't tell anyone at my work. I had my hernia repaired when I had my WLS so I just said I had that done. No one needs to know. Before you have surgery you will have to diet so I just made sure I got the word out before hand that I was eating clean and working out. -
Dinner Frustration
SeahawksFan replied to vincereautmori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I almost always look online so I know what I am going to order ahead of time. I personally would skip the soup or salad and go for the entrée. I don't like most of the appetizers either. Also how do you squeeze in a glass of wine if your not supposed to drink 30 min before you eat? I always just order a glass of Water so no one looks at me like I am weird and then maybe take one little sip. Just curious as I am not at the stage where I can have alcohol yet. Good luck- LA -
Why don't more people use Genepro?
SeahawksFan replied to NewMeLinZ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't find out about it until I was about a month out on this forum. I wish I had know as I really like it. I hope it does have exactly what it claims. I don't like the taste and texture with unjury. ~LA -
Abuse of wls..when it's not needed
SeahawksFan replied to Momma_D's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you need all the facts before you judge. I am one of those people who ONLY needed to lose 50 lbs but you know what I was OBESE. It's not always about the amount of weight in pounds. I first still had to qualify and my BMI was 31. My doctor reviews patients with a BMI of 30 and he's in the US. I still had to meet with the psychologist and the nutritionist before I was approved. I had other issues like sleep apnea and gherd and joint pain. I had done every diet and I always lost it but I always gained it back. So for me it was about finding something that would help me keep it off long term. I have always worked out 5-6 days a week I just was always hungry. I decided not to tell anyone I was having the surgery for this exact reason. "Oh you don't need it" Yes there were risks but being a yoyo dieter and taking all the pills and supplements over the years wasn't healthy and wasn't working. ~LA -

I am on week 7 and haven't tried steak yet but I absolutely love steak. Just wondering when others have introduced it back into your diet and if you had any issues. Thanks- LA

I had surgery 7 weeks ago and I had pizza last weekend with no problems. It was thin crust and I ate about 3/4 of a piece with mushrooms, olives, and pepperoni. I haven't told anyone about my surgery either and no one noticed that I didn't drink the Water I asked for or how slowly I ate. BTW....The taste was AMAZING. Good luck and have a great weekend- LA

Help needed please, and prayers
SeahawksFan replied to nprcowboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh no sorry to hear that. I have not heard of anything like this but I am only a week ahead of you but I will say a prayer for you. That sounds horrible and scary. xoxox LA -
When did you try Steak again?
SeahawksFan replied to SeahawksFan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for all the feedback I appreciate it. I have been really lucky and so far have not had any intolerances to food so I'll give it a shot next week. Go Hawks -
I went to Disneyland and had the same issue. I packed 2 Premier Protein shakes everyday and then I found some hummus and then ate soup at restaurants. It is tough so you might want to plan ahead. Good luck

Blood Work Results - what could it be.
SeahawksFan replied to bdcsail's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OMG I would be going nuts. I am just like you thinking that it would be the worse but like most people have said I am sure it's not since they aren't rushing you in. Try not to stress out. Good luck- LA -
a week post op had to go the ER
SeahawksFan replied to GenaW828's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That sounds horrible. Did they give you antibiotics? Any idea when it will feel better? I know before surgery I tried not to think about the things that could happen so I am sorry it happened to you. I had to go to the ER one week out but that was for dehydration and I blame myself for that one. I thought I was WonderWoman on my first day back to work. Take care- LA -
Great support meeting last night!
SeahawksFan replied to CheleLynn45's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Love the outfit!! And 40 lbs is awesome. I have such a hard time finding boots to fit over my bulky calves that I have to get the extra wide ones. But I have a few and I'll be wearing a pair tonight. I am going to HH with girlfriends so a prawn appetizer and Water for me. ~LA -
My opinion is that it's ok to say something nice like "Wow you look great you've lost weight." But it's inappropriate to talk about someone's boobs unless it is a close friend. I work for a large company and this would make a great HR video that we have to watch every year about inappropriate workplace actions. Sorry though that it happened to you. Great Job on the loss- LA
