    No Energy!

Just a heads up. That's actually too much protein. I was getting in that much as well, and my dietician and surgeon both told me that the high amount of protein was the reason that I stalled for so long. When I cut down to 60-80 grams a day, I started losing weight again. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

How to get my motivation back?

Support groups can help, both in person and here online. Find a breast cancer support group as soon as you can. It will help to talk to others going through the same thing. I would also suggest talking to a therapist. You've got a lot to process right now, and a therapist can help you deal with the stress and uncertainty. I wish you all the best.
  3. I am on WV medicaid, and I have completed all my pre-surgery requirements, but I found out in January that the state is changing the requirements. No one knows if I will be grandfathered in under the old ones, but no one can tell me the new requirements. To top it off, medicaid is not approving any bariatric surgeries until the new requirements take effect, but no one knows when that will be! I'm so frustrated.
  4. You can visit the protein company's website, or go to http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-powders/protein-powder-samples-1-serving.html where you can buy individual samples with lots of choices. I haven't bought samples from them yet, so I can't tell you how their service is.

    Feeling depressed

I restarted my pre-op journey 15 months ago. My surgeon gave me a tentative date of Dec. 2013, sice I had gone through all the preims almost two years previously. Then my endo told me she wouldn't approve me for surgery until I got my sugar under control. Which led to my year long supervised weight loss expiring, so I had to start that over again. A year ago, I talked a lot about the surgery to a very dear friend of mine, and she decided to go for it as well. She had her surgery in July of last year. I still don't have a surgery date. It's pretty frustrating. However, I know that, barring any unforeseen thing, I will eventually have the surgery. It'll happen. I just need to be patient and learn everything that I can so I'll be ready when it does.

    Have you faced divorce?

I still get panic attacks and I have trouble being around strange men, but I'm getting better. Therapy has helped. I'm getting better every day, and WLS is going to help me get my health back. I feel lucky to have made it this far, but I'm not giving up. I have my son and my partner who both need me.

What's the story behind your profile name?

When other kids had imaginary friends, I had a very real constellation: orion. Orionova literally means 'Orion's Daughter', and I use it everywhere.

    Have you faced divorce?

I was tirty when I left my husband and moved myself and my son to the states. I was thirty-five when we divorced, but we hadn't lived together for those five years, and he was living with someone else. He didn't like that I divorced him, because his current wife told him that he had to marry her. My ex abused me emotionally and sexually. He forced me to have sex with other men, which ledf to me being raped more than once. I was afraid that he would invite a man over to our house who would hurt my son, and I knew I had to get my son out of that environment. If it hadn't been for my son, I would have stayed, and most likely would be dead by now. I was suicidal for a while because of what happened. I am still in therapy a decade later. I was lucky. I met a man who loves me as I am, but is fully supporting me in my Quest to have WLS. He loves my son as if he were his own, and is everything I could ask for in a partner. I love him with all my heart, but I don't think I will ever marry him. I'm just too gun shy.

    WLS in the Media

I remember watching a programme on British TV when I lived there, about a low income woman who was given free WLS, and after she had lost all the weight, free plastics. She went from a quiet church goer to a wild child who had unprotected sex with multiple partners and abused drugs and alcohol. There was no psych or nutritional support that I can recall. It was pretty scary for me at the time. I wonder what happened to her.

    No Flavor Protein Powder

It's pretty simple. You cannot get 30 grams of something in only 15 grams. Genepro claim that the 10 grams you get is equivilent to thirty grams of protein because of the way it's absorbed. And it says that it is absorbed in the area of the intestines that gets cut out in RNY. I don't know about other surgeries because I don't have any experience with those. So even if the thirty grams of protein is true, you still can't absorb it properly if it does get absorbed in the upper part of the intestines like they say. By all means, use it if you want. But don't count it as thirty grams of protein.

    No Flavor Protein Powder

From what I've researched, I would not recommend Genepro. The actual protein content in one serving is 10 grams, not 30. It claims that you absorb it three times better, so that it's as if you are getting 30 grams. I find that difficult to believe, especially since it says it is absorbed mostly in the upper part of the intestines. The part that gets cut out in RNY. The reason it is so tasteless and disolves so easily is because there is so little actual protein in it. If you do use it, use it in everything so you have a chance of getting your protein in.
  12. I've been pretty damn open about the fact that I'm planning on having the surgery. Probably too open. However, it has led me to meet several people who said "oh, yeah. I had that...", which led to good conversations. Then again, I've always been open about my life, except when I was going through my divorce. I'm still in therapy over that. (See? I did it again!)
  13. There are two blogs I can recommend, http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ and http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.co.uk/ . I recently heard about a book of bariatric recipes, and I'm waiting for my copy to come in. It's called Recipes for Life After Weight-Loss Surgery: Delicious Dishes for Nourishing the New You. There is a bariatic surgery for dummies book that has recipes, as well. I hope that helps.
  14. Two to go. I had my heart eval on Wednesday. I had one done last year, which found a problem, but not so severe as to keep me from having surgery. I had an ECG, which was done by the nephew of one of my high school friends (it's a small world). Then I saw the doctor. He said that my heart hasn't gotten worse over the past year, and he is happy for me to have the surgery. And I don't need a new stress test! That leaves the psych eval in two weeks, and the pulmonary eval next month. I'm becoming hopeful that it's actually going to happen this time.

    Dealing with Naysayers...

How in the world is taking care of your long-term health selfish??? Are you so rich that they want you to die early so they can get their share of your estate? Yes, in the short (very short in the scheme of things) term, you will be relying on their help as you recover. But that is far outweighed by the improvement in your health. Tell them that if they can't say anything positive about your surgery, to keep their mouths shut. Your mind is made up, and that's final.
