I had my surgery yesterday and am home already. Sipping on fluids. Up walking around. I have a little pain, but managing with liquid tylenol and tramadol. So excited that it's over. ????

I am home from the hospital. It was so nice to nap in my own bed. I am still a little sore but managing. Not feeling to bad. Definitely gasey. Burping up a storm. Lol. ????

Surgery went well. Been up walking around and drinking. Very little pain. Mainly a sore back from the beds I think. Yay! It's over. Now my new life begins. ????????????????

At the hospital now, waiting to check in and get prepped for surgery! Here we go!! EEK!

Can not do my surgery because my sugar is too high :(
jcmo replied to esingso2005's topic in Rants & Raves
My surgery was put on hold for 3 months to get my sugars down. Speak to your doctors. I am a type 2 diabetic. I got my blood sugars down from 9 to 6.9 in 3 months. I had to go on Lantus and Novorapid insulin to do it. It meant 6 shots a day, but I got it down quickly. My surgeon requires your a1c to be below 7.5 prior to surgery. Good luck. -
Tomorrow is the big day. I have to be at the hospital at 6am tomorrow morning. I'm getting so excited...and a little nervous. I can't wait.

Is anyone else on Optifast right now? I'm on day 12 of 21 days. Just over half way and feel like I'm loosing my mine. I want anything other than these darn shakes. I have lost 14lbs, but I don't know if I can keep this up. I am hangry all the time. How is everyone else coping with this? Surgery is March 3rd. Can I just sleep thru til surgery day?
-
@@tcouperus . Yes the Optifast is a shake meal replacement. As part of the bariatrics program at the Ottawa hospital you have to use it for 3 wks before surgery. You get 4 shakes a day. You actually have to purchase by prescription at the hospital.

@@kcadoret I'm almost there! So excited to be almost there. The last few days haven't been that bad. Feeling like I have more energy. I'm not really hungry at all. I just keep chugging back the shakes. 5 days to go!! And 16lbs down. Woohoo!!
-
@@anewme15 I'm doing ok. 14 days down...7 to go. This is harder than I thought. I'm dying for a peanut butter sandwich. Lol. Cravings and boredom make it hard. I've been pretty grouchy with the hubby but we are managing. One more week. I can't wait.
-
I'm so jealous that you at least get one meal a day. I would kill for a peanut butter sandwich or a bowl of vegetable soup. I can't wait for surgery. I'm not normally hungry, but I think it's the fact that I CANT have anything that is the worst. Oh well, 9 more days...I can do it. Hopefully my husband will survive my wrath. Lol.

@@kcadoret I think that once you heat the protein shakes up, the protein starts to clump kind of like an egg white goes from liquid to solid when you cook it. I am sure you can heat the shakes up, the texture just will not be very nice. As for hitting the one week mark on the OPTIFAST, it hasn't been bad. They actually taste pretty good. I recommend adding raspberry crystal light to either the chocolate or vanilla. Decaf coffee in the chocolate one is great too. So far down 10.8lbs in one week. Can't believe it. But I'm betting it will slow down greatly from here.

@@melissajane Glad you are doing so well post-op. I was wondering how you were doing. Glad to know I am not the only one who likes the premier Protein from costco either, lol.
-
@anewme15. It is 4 shakes a day. You can have decaf tea/coffee with a max 1/2 cup of skim milk, sugarfree Jello and broth. Oh and a TON of Water.
-
@@melissajane How have you been doing since your surgery? I hope you are doing great.
-
@@anewme15 congrats on your progress!! That is awesome! Exciting times ahead. I'm on Day 3 of the Optifast. Feeling a little tired, and hungry, but down 6.8lbs since Tuesday so I can't complain. A least having a set diet takes the work out of meal planning. Only 18 days of shakes to go. :)

Dr Yelle is awesome. He did my husband's gastric bypass surgery 2 yrs ago and his hernia surgeon last year. He is also the surgeon that is suppose to be doing mine in 3 wks!
-
@tintin. Good luck with the surgeon today! Yay! You get to pick up your Optifast too! FYI bring a large grocery bag or 2. Otherwise they give u a huge box to carry which you don't really need. It is definitely an exciting time. A little stressful, but better days are ahead. Soon you will be starting your shakes too. We are all on the road to better health!! Woohoo!!

Today's the day I start my OPTIFAST. First shake down. ???? They don't taste as bad as I had anticipated. I did learn that you need to drink it COLD. I will definitely put ice in it next time. 3 wks today is surgery day!! Getting excited!!
-
I'm scheduled for March 3rd too! I'm having mine done in Ottawa, Ontario! I start my liquid diet next week. I'm both excited and a little scared, but it's what we have all worked towards for the last while. good luck!
-
@@melissajane Hi! I'm in Ottawa too. I just got my surgery date last week. I start the Optifast Feb 10 and surgery is March 3rd. I am excited to start my journey. Not looking forward to the shakes though. My husband had the surgery 2.5 yrs ago and has lost about 120lbs and kept it off. I'm hoping to do the same.
-
Awesome! Great news!
-
@anewme. How did you make out at the dietitian and behaviourist ?
-
Hi. I start my Optifast in two weeks! Not looking forward to it, but very excited for surgery. It is a means to an end. We will get thru it. If you find any tricks/hints, let me know.
-
I start my Optifast feb 10th. Not looking forward to living on the nasty shakes as my hubby called them. But it is a means to an end. The process in total will have taken 26 mths from referral from family doctor to surgery. How long after seeing the nutritionist/behavourist depends on each person. I was passed thru the nutritionist/behavourist on the first go around. Not everyone gets their ok after the first appointment. I had a hold up of 3 mths to get my blood sugar levels to the right level.
