How much did you lose in Month 3?
JerseyJules replied to sukik's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
More Protein. Protein is a metabolic booster in itself, so make sure to hit your protein goals.Ad some good fats, get your body used to burning fats for energy. Your body will eventually start turning to the fat to burn. -

1) get out of the mens room!! LOL 2) are you cleaning just the lint trap or the Vent that goes to the outside? Cause apparently you are supposed to replace that flexible vent every few years. -
You may technically gain weight on the scale or see it not move, but the more muscle you have the more fat you burn when working out and the more calories you burn while resting. The weight lifting actually does more for your metabolic rate than cardio. Lifting weights is the best exercise there is IMHO. Try doing a set of squats or leg presses and tell me how winded you get compared to walking on a treadmill. Plus your body will look better from the weight lifting. I would start with a medium weight, basic movement resistance training program followed by 25-30 minutes of some form of medium intensity cardio. I have lifted all my life and in recent months packed on more fat cause i was unable to lift as much due to a shoulder injury from martial arts... Dont look at the scale, you'll notice it mostly in your clothes fitment. Eat Protein right after your workout in the form of a recovery shake, and dont count it as a daily meal. Good luck and start light and basic.

Well not the immediate post op diet, Im pretty clear on that and have it in a pamphlet for my doctor. Im curious as to the long term diet, will I ever be able to consume in moderation the foods I enjoy so much now? Will I be able to eat pizza again or indulge in the occasional sweet like carrot cake? I know they say your taste changes and what not, and dont eat empty calories, but I still want to be able to enjoy the little things in life and not be miserable eating grilled chicken and a spoon full of veggies for the rest of my life without the occasional treat. I asked this of my doctor and he danced around the question and basically said, you really wont want to eat like that anymore once you start eating good. But I know eventually I will want a little taste of the good life... is it possible?

I made the mistake of telling my mom...Oh boy....that was a mistake. People dont understand how it is to want to and have to eat ALL THE FRIGGIN TIME... -
Im 40 and 300lbs pre surgery (in 2 weeks) and my wife already has to beat me off her with a stick as it is, and I can go pretty good, she usually taps out..I really feel bad for her in the future.. oh boy!!!!

I have a question for the men who have gotten Gastric sleeve surgery.. After recovering and getting to your goal weight, did you loose your strength and muscles? Im afraid of getting too weak and losing all of my muscle mass. I understand I will loose some muscle but dont want to be sickly looking or get malnourished. I work out a lot and lift weights, and my size and strength has always been part of me but i could never loose weight and be a healthy size. Im 305 right now and will be thrilled getting to 220 and maintaining that for life.

5 Days Post Op...will I be okay?
JerseyJules replied to UmmZ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor wants me taking liquid proteins within 72 hours after surgery. in 2 to 4 oz servings with 64 oz of water a day starting the next day. He says the protein helps speed up the healing process. Its amazing the different advice different doctors give. -
Just curious as to your portions when eating? What fills you up and how does it feel exactly??? Do you still want to eat and just cant physically? I am 2 weeks out from my surgery and are really nervous. I hope I will not regret the way I look and feel.. I would like to see portion size and the types of foods you can still tolerate..Please tell me you can still eat pizza occasionally..

Calves hurt

Just be careful and monitor the pain. If you have trouble breathing or get sharp stabbing pains in your upper body get to the hospital immediately. A blood clot can travel fast and do damage fast. -
Feeling like you're getting no where

My doctor wants Clear liquids for 72 hours, then to the liquid diet for a week then progressing gradually for 30-40 days. They gave me sample menus with 2 to 4 oz portions. Im really trying to imagine eating 2 oz portions and being able to walk away.. I think I will also seek some behavioral counseling as I am more of a mental eater than a physical one. I eat when Im bored and or stressed... I eat because I THINK I should be eating. I so just want to eat normal meals and not feel disgusted with myself after eating every meal..It becomes a vicious cycle of depression and anxiety that is hard to break. Once I see the scale moving downward I will find the motivation... -

I know this sounds kind of weird, but can someone post a picture of a typical meal? Just so I know what to expect. Also can you eat the occasional sweets with the sleeve? -

No, eating 2,3 and 4 portions made me fat.. I have always tried portion control but my body and mind would not let me eat just the one portion... -

Just curious as to if a person will ever be able to eat a "portion" of food following the surgery. I keep hearing 1/4 of this a 1/2 of that and it kind of scares me that I am going to hate myself for doing this... Do you ever go back to eating a normal human portion of food? -

My question is why would you order that stuff from take out places when its so simple to make and take with you? Is it more if you are in a pinch and need to eat, or is it a lifestyle where it does not allow you to make your own foods? Also FWIW My wife worked in the food industry, and your "GRILLED" chicken you order from a diner or pizza place is thrown on the skillet with a ton of grease, its not grilled..The horror stories she has told me, bleeeeehhh... I dont plan on ordering take out after all this, but plans change of course. But I cant see me doing it within the first 2 months following surgery for sure...whats your opinion on that?
