This is a weird one...help!! Since my last fill (7 cc..banded November 2007)- I throw up if I sleep on my back. How weird is that? I have had acid reflux when I was too tight before, but this is ONLY when I sleep on my back. Its scary. Going to the Dr on Tuesday. Anyone had a similar experience?

Hello all. I was banded on 11/23/07. 42 pounds down and about 75 more to go. I was also scared of the first fill, but it was fine. They numb your stomach, so you dont even feel the fill and it is so fast, you wont even believe it! DONT look at the needles. I am at 4 CCs...I just started the slimy stuff right after my second fill. It is gross and terrible! I agree though, it is typically my fault. Here are some helpful hints: 1) Chew at least 30 times each bite 2) Put your fork down and count to 20...like, one thousand one, one thousand two...etc. 3) Small bites 4) Dont let yourself get too hungry or you will want to eat fast and that is bad bad bad 5) Make sure after your fill, you only do soft foods for at least 3 days. I couldnt do meat at all for 1 and a half weeks after fill. 6) Bread and Peanut Butter are bad news for me. I can do wraps fine and like them just as much. Hmmm...that is all I can think of right now. We can do this!!!! Tanya, Dayton, OH

I am doing everything "by the book". I am getting all my water and protein in. My "time of the month" just ended. Is there a certain amount of calories we should be eating? The only thing I can figure is I dont eat any fruits and veggies because when I am done with my protein, I dont want anything else. I want this to work...when I got discouraged on diets before, I would eat eat eat, at least I cant do that now. Thanks for your post...I hope this is just a minor set back. If it continues, I will call the Dr

Help...I was banded on November 21st. Dropped 26 pounds in the first month and was super happy with that result. Went for my first fill two days before Christmas and it was piece of cake (maybe I shouldnt use those terms). Made it through Christmas without falling off due to temptations, only ate half a Christmas cookie off my normal "diet". My clothes feel a bit loose and people seem to be noticing a bit. HOWEVER, the past 5 days, I have gained 2 and a half pounds and have no idea what is going on?! I have not increased my diet or decreased my exercise...I havent done anything "bad". How can you possibly gain weight when you are barely eating enough to keep a small child alive? Has anyone else had this experience? I dont know what to do, I am starting to panic. Of course my first thought is "oh my gosh, maybe this isnt going to work for me". I am scared...any thoughts? :help:

Hello-wow, you sound just like I did before my surgery! The waiting is bad bad bad...so, just go for it! You will be emotional, you will second guess yourself, etc...when in reality, you should try and think positive and think how this will change your life. I had never had surgery before...mine was 11/20. I was terrified of surgery...of something going wrong, of this not working, etc. I cried the morning of my surgery...I cried in the hospital, up to the minute they were ready to take me back..she said it was normal, nobody comes in not scared. She said "do you want something to relax you?" My Mother said "please give her something to relax her" and the next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery! I have no regrets...sure it has only been a bit under 2 weeks, but I am so glad it is over and I can exhale. My only focus now if following the rules and making myself a new life! If you dont do this before Christmas...you can add another 10 pounds onto your body before January easily. I am not a pro just yet, but the before surgery thing...whew, it was a killer to me. I was also an emotional roller coaster ride. You just have to talk to yourself..seriously! Tell yourself you are doing the right thing...figure out how hot you will look a year from now! I was so bad before surgery emotionally, I almost got a therapist. Soooo...you are not feeling anything abnormal. Hang in there...and go for it! we are all in this together. -
You are all getting me scared. I was just banded on 11/20 and wont get a fill until 4 more weeks. Is this what I have to look forward to? I feel restricted already without any saline?! Is that normal? Am I about to get a rude awakening here?

Hello...I am on soft foods as well. Here is what I have tried so far with no problems. oatmeal with splenda brown sugar mashed potatoes green Beans scrambled eggs w/ cheese egg salad yogurt smoothies Soup and more soup, even a couple low fat saltines a can of low carb choc slim fast per day (20 grams of protein) sugar free popsicles (chocolate and fruit) refried pinto beans from Taco Bell That is about it so far. I have not gotten hungry yet, but the other day I did have the muchies...tried to just keep sipping on my Special K Protein Water and that seemed to help. I have my first check up on Thursday and will ask at that time what kind of exercise besides walking that we can do. I feel great today...first day I have felt really awesome so far! I am even putting up the Christmas tree!!! Woo Hoo! You need to slow down eating...that will help a lot! Take small bites and then put your fork down for at least a count of 10 seconds before you pick it up and eat more. You will be fine...I would definately voice your concerns with your Doctor. I have heard a lot of people on this thread say they are hungry until their first fill, so it is normal. Hang in there and keep in touch. We are only 4 days difference in our surgery dates. GREAT!! Take care..

Lots of pain after surgery and questions
TanyaLN replied to summerbushnell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I expected pain, I think we are all just sharing what we are feeling to make sure it is normal. I have not had surgery before and did expect pain for sure afterwards, but sometimes you are reassured when others are feeling the same things as yourself. -

All..I was banded on 11/20. I too slept in an upright position for 9 days with a heating pad. Laying down was o.k., but getting up was horrible. It took me 8 days to get off my pain meds. I wasnt in pain, but I had major discomfort. I also just started on day 9 to have the energy to do my everyday choirs around the house, etc. I am sure everyone is different. If you follow the rules, take your vitamins, follow the diet and walk as instructed...everything will be fine. At day 11 I feel "almost" back to normal. Each day is better..hang in there. I have also lost 10.6 pounds already, but find my appetite is starting to get bigger and that scares me a bit?! -
All...me again. I was banded 11/20. I went back to work after 6 days and it was too soon. Could have used a couple more days off for sure. Just tired and still sore at port area. So far (day 9) I have lost 11.5 pounds. I am so happy! I have no problems with protein or liquids and seem full all of the time. I have already graduated to mushie foods, but love soups, so still eating those. My stomach is still bloated...is that normal? I cant even button my pants. Ha ha ha! No other issues at all...just moving forward and taking one day at a time. No regrets!! Follow up visit next week...hope my incisions are healing correctly. This is so weird...I never thought it would work for me and it is working. Finally, something that works. Any words of wisdom are welcome! No nausea, no gas...nothing, so that is a good thing. I called the Doc yesterday about the soreness and he said it would be about 3 weeks before the port area felt right, so hang in there. Good luck to all...lets keep this post going...I love to hear how others are doing.

Hello all. I was banded on November 20th. I am down 9 pounds already. Still sore though after 6 days. I hope that is normal?! Going back to work tomorrow. No gas pains, no nausea...no hunger. This is awesome. Just worried about infection, etc. Trying to be very careful.
