Mexico is the best - Down 120 lbs.
FLMan replied to Dedria's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had mine in Mexioc also with Dr. Pedro Kuri in TJ Mexico. I was a great expereince. Passport - I have mine but you don't need one yet. However it is easy to get one. Go to your local post office. Make an appointment and they will do everything for you. My surgery was a wonderful experience! Good Luck to you and God Bless You! -
I was banded on January 10, 2008 and things are going very well. I have started mushies but I am more just liquid. My mushies have been mashed potatoes and oatmeal. My question should I be eating more mushies? I have only been hungry one time... during the playoff game... you know football snacks! I feel good about my weight loss so far just don't want to do anything that will mess me up later. Thanks everyone.

I have had to get off a roller coaster in front of everyone while my son was left to ride all alone. I acted like no big deal but it was to me and my son. So after I lose my weight we are going to DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!

Good Luck Everyone! Hope all do okay. The liquid diet is okay... my suggestion mix it up... Crystal Lite, Apple Juice, Broth, etc...

I did the first time yesterday if it is like a hiccup. Anyway only lasted a little while. I will try the Apple Juice next time. Thanks for the info.

Great job! An inspiration for all us. I have a question for you I was 353 on 1-10 when I started... Do you have extra skin? Did you work out? What did you do?

Steve, Let me answer your questions and don't worry ask away. Believe me.. my wife and I asked ALOT of questions. 1. yes they do a full physical when you get to the hospital. 2. I choose to stay that length of time some patients go home right away. I wanted to sight see and yes I did. You are a little sore but walking is good so I walked. 3. They pay for your hotel stay at the Plaza Azetec in TJ for two days. I stayed there one night and went out around TJ. The next night we did stay in SD just so we could see alittle SD and wife wanted to go to the zoo. 4. Yes there drive Miquel meets you at airport. We waited maybe 5 minutes he was waiting out front of out airline. His english is not great but okay. Nurses all speak a little English we had no problem and speak NO Spanish. We took some Spanish Phrases with us and just pointed out on the paper. However no problem at all. Also 10 pecos to the 1 so the exchange rate is good. Steve, for me if was cost that is alot of difference. Dr. Kuri is great. He speaks English better than me. He has done this alot longer then any doctor in US. When I was on the hospital floor just lap band patients. Maybe 30 rooms all Americans. Not with Kuri he had 5 come in with me. So they know thier business. My wife told Kuri she was so impressed with hospital his staff and everything. He laughed and said yeah we don't all ride donkeys. He has a great sense of humor. He knows you are feeling scared and him everyone else makes it so easy. Good luck to you. Also since surgery 1-10 I have lost 21 pounds as of this morning. LIquid stage is not bad.... if you get discourged looka t the scale. Dane

Steve, I did the samething... MEXICO NO WAY!! Let me tell you that after lots of prayers and research I feel like I did the right thing. After loads of research I found two doctors I liked... Kuri and Ortiz. Kuri won my vote he uses hospital has done it longer and close to the border. I called his office 888-223-4046 (Lap Band Surgery - Dr. Kuri & Associates) made an appointment. Called airline got my tickets from Florida USAIR was $99 at the time. Called back to Kuri they made all my arrangements with hotel. They met me at the airport took me to the hospital. I had fasted for 7 hours so I was ready for the doctor visit and all the test. (EKG, Bloodwork, etc.) After I was cleared I went across the street grab a light meal. I returned to the hospital at 6:30 where we all (5 scheduled the next day) met with Kuri. He gave us our time based on BMI. My wife and I spent the night in the hospital had surgery the next day. I stayed one more night in the hospital and then Miguel (the driver) took my wife and I to the hotel and flew home on Sunday. Total trip was Wed - Thurs. My entire trip was so easy. The hospital in Mexico was great. Nurses are 3 patients for every 1 nurse so you are very well taken care of.... GREAT EXPERIENCE!! Good Luck to you. Dane

I was banded on Jan 10 and things are going great. I have not been hungry at all... however sometimes I feel like I need to eat. I know sounds crazy but that is how I will describe it for now. Anyway I weighed in at 353 pre op in Mexico with Dr. Kuri and today I weighed in at 331... That makes the liquid stage work for me.... I drink the Winn dixie brand drinkable yogurt and slim fast with protein. I am walking everyday and hope to add more miles as the days go by.... Yesterday my daughter made me a banana smoothie..... I was up for hours with horrible gas. So that is now a No for me. Thanks and good luck to all. Dane 353/331/230ish preop/current/goa My mini goal less than 300 by Feb. 1, 2008

I don't want to look sick.... Is it because they lose to fast and too much? I want to look healthy. I am a big guy.... of course now I am a BIG GUY! I asked this question on Dr. Kuri's website and had lots of imput so I will ask again. I am having surgery on 1-10-2008 with Dr. Kuri in Mexico. I travel a lot in my job so not a big deal for me to be gone. I am not telling them at first. I will tell them after I get home and start seeing some change. What did you do? What did you say to your kids or familY? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!
-
Thanks after I posted this question I did some more research and found the operation. Okay thank you for your fast response.
-
What is RNY is it Lap Band? This may be a really stupid question but I am confused>>>> Please help.

YOU LOOK GREAT!!!! You are an inspiration to all of us!!!!

I am counting down the days. Going skiing with the kids right after Christmas then coming home for a few days and off to see Dr. Kuri!!!! YEAH!!! I just keep thinking next year for our ski trip it will not be so hard for me to keep up!!!! LOL!!!
-
Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention I have a 14 year old boy.... going on 4 and a 11 year old daughter going on 30!!!!! I know I am going to have to tell them I just don't want them worried while I am in Mexico. And I don't want other family members giving me advice. I will need support but after it is done not before... does that make sense?????
