    Go-to sleevey snack

I keep string cheese or a small slim jim type of meat thingy Or even lunch meat and cheese --- ham or turkey or even salami rolled up with a piece of cheese -- personally, i'm not worried about it for a few hours. You could also get a powdered Protein shake and a half frozen bottle of Water and make a drink in a pinch.

    Anyone with BMI 55+?

I am 5'2" and was 320 on my surgery date of 2/10/15 with a BMI of 58.5. I have lost 65 lbs and am now at 255, with BMI of 46.6. I have felt like my weight loss has been slow, but I had my 3 month follow up this past week (at 4 months) and the doc said a loss between 30-40% of the excess weight was right on targer
  3. I had some wine about four weeks out. I had a few sips and then really didn't want more. It made me feel more normal at least At this point I've had a few drinks and honestly, I have never felt it hit me sooner or that I absorbed it faster. It felt completely normal to me. With that said, a week out---you are still on full liquids, no? At four weeks I was on full foods so I felt I had had some time learning how my sleeve reacted to things.

    Isopure drinks

i love these! I haven't had a regular Protein shake since week 3 -- I drank too fast and got sick and just stomach them right now. These are great and count towards your Water as well. My faves are alpine punch and the blue raspberry. I also like both of the teas. Did not like orange...I have a grape in the fridge to try. I drink about half a bottle a day -- I mix it with 8 ozs of water, lots of ice and throw in a few drops of zero calorie water enhancers to help with the taste. They really help me meet my protein goal every day

    Guess I just need reassurance.

i didnt watch the video, but just be careful and make sure your body is physically hungry and you just don't think you are hungry because you aren't "full" --- I find I used to spend a lot of my time thinking I was hungry but it was just that I wasn't used to not stuffing myself...
  6. I buy Vitamins & supplements at CVS or Walgreens when they have buy 1 get 1 free sales...they have one on a different brand pretty much every week... and yea...you won't be ordering take out or going out for meals much, so these expenses really pan out in the end
  7. I know there was a bunch of us that were sleeved early last week. 1. How do you feel? Any issues? 2. How is your water/protein intake? 3. Have you had your first follow-up appt? How did it go? If not, when is your appt? 4. What stage food are you on (full liquids, purees, etc.)? 5. Have you hit buyer's remorse yet or still glad you did it? 6. Lastly - how much have you lost since the surgery?

    Fast food favorites?

I got into a jam after a doctor's appt a few weeks ago...appt ran late and i had to get to a meeting and i didn't have any food with very limited options in the city while I jumped on the freeway to my meeting...McDonalds was the only option...I scoured their menu and finally ended with a grilled chicken wrap snack -- no dressing, so just chicken with some lettuce in a tortilla -- the stats for the "ranch" wrap -- 290 calories, 18 g Protein, 25 g carbs. I tore off the upper half of the wrap to just eat the chicken out of the top... i've heard they will sell you a side of chicken or chicken wrapped in lettuce instead of the tortilla i now never leave without food, no matter how short i think my time out will be
  9. - taco meat (turkey or beef) and then add cheese, salsa, lettuce, tomato, etc. and eat with a spoon - cheese wrapped in deli meat -- i roll them up and put in a baggy and throw in my purse for when i'm out running around (if you are worried about spoilage stick to cured meats like ham, pepperoni, salami, etc.) - make a breakfast sandwich with your eggs and bacon on either a sandwich thin or a low carb tortilla. i use the sandwich thin and add some cheese as well..i eat about a quarter of one (i'm only 7 weeks out) - refried Beans with cheese and salsa - i cook my own pinto beans in the crockpot and blend them up in my ninja - chicken satay (or beef) -- marinate some thin slices of beef or chicken and then skewer long ways and grill - i haven't had these since surgery, but i used to take a rice cake and add a slice of ham and some cheese and microwave until cheese is melting and eat that in the car - roast green beans or asparagus in the oven with your spice of choice (i have a spicy steak seasoning I like) and i will munch on these straight out of the fridge or microwaved for a few seconds to take the chill out
  10. 2/10 was my surgery. DOS 320 CW 290. I had a 10 day stall and the NUT said up my calories and Protein...so currently eating about 800 calories and 60-85 g of protein (and it worked). Doing well on that and the Water most days...need to improved the exercise, I was walking really well but had a busy week and didn't get back into it. Back at it this week with treadmill walking on an incline, squats and upper body dumb bell routine. I'm just going to keep working the plan as I know it WILL work!

Required to be off birth control

that seems odd, i have NEVER heard that....i would not do that...esp since you are told DO NOT get pregnant right away after..
  12. if everything makes you vomit you should call your surgeon....at this stage, that should not be happening
  13. you just stick your belly...it's easy and the needles are small - they are for after surgery and as said above, they will show you the under the skin parts refers to the fact that they are subcutaneous - aka right under the skin, vs having to go into the muscle...
  14. my doc told me at my 10 day follow up that i was clear of hurting myself internally or of the sleeve developing a leek...super rare > 10 days post of i am walking and doing upper body workout with dumbbells
  15. the clear Isopures are awesome. It's like drinking a crystal light type drink instead of Protein shake
  16. i would talk to my endocrinologist about my insulin levels and not rely on the bariactric team. your endo is the expert and i would take their advice over the bariatric's advice... good luck

    Overeating when dining out

it sounds like dining out is a trigger for overeating for you...i would try to avoid it as much as possible for now
  18. I have a desk job... i had my surgery on tuesday, released from hospital thursday around noon worked from home the entire next week because i could. i could have gone back to the office but the biggest issue was just getting into a routine with the new way of eating. i went back the next week (this week) and have been fine

    Food Tracking

i use sparkpeople because i've used it for years and it has a lot of my personal recipes in it already, etc. i set my Protein to 60 and calories to 1000 because it wont let me set it to lower the rest, i just let the defaults stay

    Food Ideas

deli turkey wrapped in soft cheese...sometimes nuked or heated in a pan so the cheese is melted i add Protein powder to Soups i made buffalo chicken dip...canned/shredded chicken, light cream cheese, some cheddar cheese and hot sauce i made taco meat...i used beef but ground turkey or chicken would work as well hard boiled eggs -- or deviled eggs (mix the yolk with a little mayo and mustard and salt and pepper) home made meatballs..again, i used beef, but you could use chicken or turkey...i made mine italian style but with asian flavors would be good as well

    Gym

My surgeon told me I could start light weights when I saw him 10 days post op...esp arms, shoulders, etx. Just listen to my body
  22. i never had anything that felt like tearing, but i was still on my oxycodone 1 week out - so i think what you are experiencing is normal...i would try really taking it easy for a bit

How to tell your 4 yr old?

i was upfront with my 7 and 8 yr olds - first, i was going to be in the hospital 2 nights and 2nd, because they know how much i struggle with trying to lose weight...they've seen me not eating stuff because i'm "on a diet" or can't do things with them because of my weight. i told them the surgeons were going to make my stomach smaller so i could lose weight to be healthier, live longer and do more stuff with them. lastly, we talked about this being private, personal, family only information...they understood with that said, i agree with BLERDgirl on the very simple approach for a 4 yr old
  24. i was told to concentrate on getting fluids in the first week and then Protein...also, was told that Protein shakes count towards Fluid goals...so maybe remove a meal and do another shake?
  25. i would stop getting on the scale every day... are you getting all your fluids and Protein?
