    March 2014 Surgery!

Congrats! I received my authorization today! :D They aren't expecting to get me in until Early-mid April though
  4. Today I chose the sleeve. I'm hoping for a surgery date around the end of next month. I've decided that if I can get where I need to be without the complications of bypass, I will do the sleeve. However, the fact that the sleeve lacks long term data worries me. Is the plan for most of you to lose the weight then maintain? How do we know this will last? I hate hate hate not having the guarantees that the bypass has. How much weight can I expect to lose if I'm 240, 5'4" and 25lbs? What about the sleeve has made you choose this over the bypass?
  5. This post just made my day. Can you be my mentor?!?!!
  6. I know we have all discussed the stats but I'm curious what your results are. I'm wondering if I should go with the bypass for the sole reason that I want to be little at the end of this. I'm 5'4", 235lbs. Is a 100 lb weight loss even plausible for me? My goal weight is 130lbs. I can go smaller, but in my experience, I have a lot of muscle and that is a weight where I'm very happy. Guys, help me decide. I'm worried that the sleeve Lacks long term data. I don't want it to end up with results like the band. I'm tempted to go with the bypass bc I know it works. But obviously if I get get here, and stay there with the sleeve, it's much safer and with less complications. I'm 25. I need this surgery to last a lifetime, which mostly relies on me. But I don't want to reach a plateau, have my sleeve slowly slowly stretch back out and put the weight back on. I'm so lost and so unhappy in this decision. Help!

  9. I am making the decision between sleeve and bypass. Here is a bit about myself: 25, 5'4", 238lbs. Healthy, no comorbitities. Here are my thoughts: -I do not like the idea of rerouting all of my stuff! I have many years ahead of me filled with pregnancy and possible complications. -However, i'm healthy and my doc says I will do wonderfully either way. -My reasonings for wanting bypass: I overeat, and can eat crap. Eating crap will not be tolerated... so on top of having smaller portions, I will be trained to eat HEALTHY. -Is choosing bypass BECAUSE i'll get sick eating this stuff a worthy enough reason to turn down the sleeve? I want weight loss for life, and I don't know if the sleeve can promise that. You can return to normal eating patterns and essentially stretch the stomach out again. Please! answers! My doc is calling me tomorrow.
  10. Use red/orange lipstick underneath your concealer! Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but it's rooted in color theory. Give it a try!
  11. Hey! Thank you all for your responses. I totally agree, and know that wls is only a tool. I am committing to working out three days a week and eating healthier. I did not mean to imply that the surgery would be only thing stopping me from eating poorly... What I meant is, and perhaps I should have clarified, is all things equal, eating healthy, watching caloric intake and working out, is the possibility of dumping a solid motivator for any of you in choosing whether you indulge in that piece of pie or not. I've read that a few ppl on these forums relish the additional constraint. It's interesting that not everyone has this issue though. Either way, I'll make it... I guess I just like the extra mental "no", some people get. Will you have the same feelings of fullness as the sleeve does? I've heard that if you eat too much, you can get sick. I'm also concerned with stretching the stomach/sleeve out again. I know you can get fat again on either, my uncle unfortunately has... So I want to approach this in the best possible way. I want to give myself the best chance of staying thin for the next handful of decades. And I don't know what surgery is the best long term solution for me.

    TA DA!

    Uh.. what?
  14. Listen. Before you judge, hear me out: I know the reasons I'm doing this, and they are for my health, and physical and emotional wellness. I am doing this to change my life, but moreover change my lifestyle. I WANT to incorporate working out in my routine for...ever! I want to eat healthy. I WANT these things-- it's not idealistic, they are actual, tangible goals to me. I understand that sagging is something I should expect, and I realize that. I'm 25, 235 lbs and 5'4", which leaves me right at the 40 BMI. I truly want to do everything I can to get my body in the best condition possible. Yes, aesthetics is a part of this. Is it all of it, or even most of it? No. I'm just curious if without plastic surgery/tummy tucks, etc. I can ever expect (by the sleeve or bypass, working out and eating healthy) if I can ever realistically expect to be in a bikini. Ok. GO! ALSO-- does anyone have any after pictures of sagginess? Please! I am so greatful for any and all of your comments!
  15. Hi, I am 25 and hoping to be approved for a bariactric surgery. I am 235-240 lbs and 5'4" so I am right at 40BMI. At this point I have scheduled my first appointment (Feb 5th) and I am hopeful for acceptance from my insurance company. I am curious at how you would honestly classify your body one year post surgery. I do intend to make serious changes to my lifestyle, including eating healthier and working out. I am hopeful that at my age, and considering that I only just meet the criteria for surgery, that I will not experience a lot of sagging after the surgery. Does anyone have any experience with it? Does working out help the process? Does anyone have a story where they were a similar weight and could provide some insight? Any and all comments and opinions are welcomed!
  16. I already have stretch marks on my stomach, about to my belly button. I do not have very visible one on my boobs but I know they're there. How do stretchmarks react to the weightloss? Is it the weight loss that causes the sagging, or how fast you're losing weight?
  17. thank you to everyone who took the time to comment back. I'm going to be honest, I am a littttle discouraged at your responses but am super grateful for all of your honesty. Do any of you have any additional photos without clothes/partially clothed before and after? I am curious to see the sagging in a picture for reference. Like I said, thank you again- it really isn't changing my perspective on the surgery, just because my health and overall fitness/happiness is way more important, but it is good to be prepared mentally and emotionally in addition to physically.
  18. I'm nervous. I have met with my PCP who has recommended me for a surgery. He calculated me at 239 lbs (but I WAS holding my bag and wearing many layers). At home I weigh 227lbs. I am 5'4". This puts me at a BMI of 39. I will be devastated if I go to my appointment and they turn me down over a few pounds. Ugh

    Am I eligible? Com'on!

There's irony in having to gain weight to get this thing lol... On my way to Chipotle? haha

    Am I eligible? Com'on!

I do not have any comorbidities at this point other than depression and a history of diabetes in my family. My BP is good and I am otherwise very healthy. I can say firmly that my weight has contributed hugely to my depression. I have been seeing someone for a few months and am on antidepressants. Will this help my case? I have Independent Health. Sorry to ask again, but do they weigh you with a gown or clothes on at the surgeon's office? Thank you all AGAIN! It sounds like I need to get to that 40BMI. The thing is-- I'm not trying to rush it but I am still on my parent's insurance until I'm 26 (that's 8 months). So I am trying to push this along so I can have the procedure under my parents' coverage, which will be undoubtedly way better than anything I'll get (i'm a student/EMT/server).

First, let me say THANK YOU to you all for responding. It really helps alleviate my worries knowing I have such a great community to turn to. I need this procedure. I really do. I've struggled with weight my whole life and I truly do want to use this experience as a jumpstart to a healthier, fitter lifestyle. I DO want to eat healthy and I DO work out. Ugh, to be so close! I'm at 227, and according to the calculator, I have to weigh 233 to get a 40 BMI at my height. I can gain 6 lbs! But it will take a little while... GROAN! How do they weigh you? In a gown, or in clothes? Is it reeeeally cheating if I'm so close? haha
