I had surgery a week ago on the 28th. Are you in pain or at least passing gas? It took me three days to pass gas (was burping like crazy though) and five days post op to have a BM if you'd call it that. Yesterday was my first 'real' BM. Only after integrating yogurt and such did anything start to happen for me. If you're concerned or very uncomfortable contact your surgeon and see what they'd recommend.

Prior to me going into surgery my blood pressure was 103/68. After surgery with me being attempting to be a tough guy and holding off on meds, the pain was making my BP I think at one point it was like 150/90 something. They said not to worry about it because more meds the gave me it basically dropped to 120-130 over 70-80 for whenever I wasn't in pain. It was mandated to have a swallow test prior to be released. I was nervous about my BP but they told me I just had a major procedure and my body is a little confused and that I should relax. Hope everything is well!

How does Sleep Apnea complicate the VSG date?
Aranks replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I luckily did not exhibit any symptoms of sleep apnea. But my dad who had bypass back in April did actually have sleep apnea. There was no hold up's or complications. They will more than likely just want you to have a CPAP machine at home if they find you have sleep apnea to use for a bit before and after surgery. Honestly my dad used his CPAP machine for a couple days before surgery and never used it after. **Not that you shouldn't use it after surgery if you need it. He's a bad patient! -
Good afternoon, I had surgery on the 28th, was in the hospital two nights and released Sunday afternoon. Was sleeved and had my gallbladder removed. I had my post op appointment yesterday and today was my first day back at work. I kind of go scolded. I am trying to eat but my body is not cooperating. Each day I'm trying to increase my intake slightly. Yesterday I had about 8oz of Water a 10oz Protein drink and a cup of pudding. Thus far today I've had a yogurt a Protein shake and about 8oz of water. Being there is still daylight left I'm hoping to get some more nutrients down this evening. I feel completely stuffed. I sip throughout the day if its not water it's a protein shake. But I just fill up so much my stomach gets crazed with unrest and I feel like it's creeping up. Plus my burping is crazy! Every sip I burp. Did anybody else go through this? Any recommendations?! I'm so flustered because I'm trying to be such a good little patient and despite my efforts I'm falling short. Thank you!

Thank you! That's what I was kind of thinking but I felt taken back when the nutritionist and doctor looked totally discouraged with me (probably in my head they're all super pleasant). But they just told me I really have to work on getting my intake up. It's just so difficult!

I got moved to Stage 2 of my diet as of yesterday so I can have full liquids, including pudding and yogurt (super exciting for me!). I'm on this stage for 2 weeks, then move to pureed in stage 3 for a week than start a regular soft diet December 25th. That's a great idea adding the Protein powder! What did you find worked best for that?? I really enjoy my protein shakes, but I just feel so full! It gets to the point where I just burp feel a little something starting to creep and have to stop. It takes me hours to just finish a protein shake, four hours today. Even having a yogurt or pudding takes me about an hour and a half to two hours. I just don't get it!

I HATE Isopure lol I drink Pure Protein or Premiere one has 23g and the other 32g and are only 10oz as opposed to Iospure's 20oz. I am waiting 15 minutes before transitioning from Water to food and 30 minutes after eating before drinking. But I can barely get anything down. My Protein Drink this afternoon took nearly 4 hours to finish 10oz. If I drink faster though I feel like it will soon be coming back for a second appearance.

How to mentally prepare? Also, what to bring?
Aranks replied to heynowkc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Afternoon! Just know you are doing this for the right reasons. I had mentally prepared myself for the sleeve and found out (2) days prior to surgery my gallbladder was coming out too. That I wasn't prepared for! Threw me in a tizzy. But ultimately as long as you know you are doing this for you, and know this is a 'tool'. It won't change your life it's not a miracle cure, but it will help you change yours. I had minimal support during the process. None of my friends or family would come meet with doctor's with me or go to any groups with me, my boyfriend at the time (now an ex) told me how he would like to tell off the doctor would said I could get this done. But this was for me. I think if you're doing this for yourself, and you've already made the commitment to do this for you, the changes aren't as difficult as one would presume. I had surgery on Friday. You think oh my goodness how a I going to give up everything I love. But you realize that one spoon of unsweetened apple sauce tastes like an ice cream sundae. You're really not hungry. I look at things and say, yeah I'd like to eat that, and maybe one day I will, but I know it will be in moderation. As far as bringing things with you, bring your phone, iPod, chargers, I was pretty entertained by the television set, I had some good medication and kept dozing in and out. I'd say chap stick, but know my doctor's wouldn't let me use any petroleum products since I was on O2 the first night, so they provided me with a lotion type of tube for my lips. Bring slippers and a robe, or request an extra gown. Walking every two (2) hours sometimes only my dad was in the room and I didn't want him seeing my hind quarters or relying on somebody to tie me every time I got out of bed, so being able to just throw something easily and quickly over your shoulders was great. Also an extra pair of draws! Pretty much everybody wears leaving that they wore in, comfy cozy clothes, but a clean pair of draws when leaving was pretty high on my priority list. -
What should I take to the hospital?
Aranks replied to Moneen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Afternoon, I had surgery on Friday the 28th, I was there for 2 nights. I would say bring a phone charger, your phone/ipod, a pair of slippers and I highly recommend bringing a robe with you (if not just ask for an extra gown to wear to cover your hind). Being that you have to walk every two hours, I preferred throwing something over my shoulders as opposed to tying and untying each time I got into bed. I wasn't allowed to use my chapstick at the hospital the first day/night because I was on oxygen and wasn't allowed to use any petroleum products, they provided me with more of a lotion for my lips. As far as being entertained the television was really enough that they provided I was on so much medication I dozed in and out frequently. -
Gallbladder removal and sleeve on Friday 11/28
Aranks replied to Aranks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all very much! I'm grateful it will be laparoscopic and that i dont need multiple surgeries. This is the first surgery I will have ever had. I just feel like I had mentally prepared myself for my sleeve that to find out something else three days prior sent me in a nervous tizzy! What I am super excited about is getting to see pictures of my gallbladder and surgery at my first post open visit. Won't let me see my physical gallbladder! Haha -
Gallbladder removal and sleeve on Friday 11/28
Aranks posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good evening, Hope all is well. My scheduled surgery is this Friday the 28th. Had all my clearances done earlier this month and went for additional blood work and consent for the operation this evening. Turns out I have gallstones when we went over my soon from the 4th. Being i have PCOS i associated the cramping and pain with that and nothing else. So found out today my gallbladder will be removed when my sleeve is done. Anybody with experience with this? I know lots of people say the hernia repair (which luckily I dont have) is the worst part. Is this going to be similar. I'm just have quite a bit of anxiety about the whole thing! But any bit of information or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! -

How long are you out of work?
Aranks replied to Genie77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I will be getting my surgery this Friday *nerve wracking* and was told I should have no problem returning to work on Monday. I do work a desk job, receivables, so it's not strenuous by any means. With any luck, all goes well!
