As stated here, the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. Almost all obese people have fatty liver disease. The pre-op diet shrinks your liver because the liver stores a form of sugar called glycogen. There is enough of this sugar stored in your liver for your body to live off of for about 3 days. After the glycogen is exhausted you enter a state called ketosis, when your body begins burning Proteins and fats for fuel. Because glycogen needs a large amount of Water, the loss of it results in weight loss and your liver shrinks. During the beginning of ketosis you will experience temporary side effects such as irritability, headache, and feelings of faint. However, your body will adapt to this in about 2-3 days, assuming you do not consume anymore carbs. If you continue to consume carbs you will never get pass that stage. If you ride it out then you will notice you will return back to normal.

I hear you. My job is easy but extremely boring. I constantly daydream about quitting but it's my first job with my own office and I have extreme flexibility with my hours and when taking off. Salary as well. I also want to go back to school this fall so I know I can't quit. Just wish I got paid more. And you may know the secret about working salary jobs is that you always try to work as few hours as possible. So I do my best to take 1-2 hour lunches and then leave a hour early or come in an hour late each day. If the pay was better I would be more excited but it's okay for now.

It's very common for couples to break up or get divorced after one member has the surgery. There are a variety of reasons why, but mostly due to insecurity on the spouse who did not have surgery.

What I hate is when their subjects lines don't match the content of their posts.

Yeah, check the laws on spousal support. In my area you have to be married for a minimum of 10 years and is usually only given for around a year. It's not like it was in the past where women were allowed to collect until they decided to remarry.

When will I stop regretting this surgery?
Proud2BMe replied to LadyJustice007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As others have stated, you need to speak to a professional. Your feelings are not normal and may indicate an underlying issue that needs to be addressed. Many obese people suffer from depression and after surgery these people no longer have access to the one thing they used to gain comfort, overeating. So their symptoms can worsen. Otherwise, most people seem to be overjoyed about losing weight. I know I was. I love my sleeve and think that it's the best decision I ever did for my health, other than quitting smoking. -
Anyone else experience this?
Proud2BMe replied to con con's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've reached the point where your hunger has returned. After surgery you will have about 6-8 months of not being hungry but then your body adapts. It sucks. So that's why it's so important to try to lose as much as possible during that time frame. -
Having some trouble...
Proud2BMe replied to Lizardlady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ignore your NUT, is what I would do. You haven't had the surgery yet and should not have any stipulations on liquids and Proteins at this point. But how could you not get enough liquids on an all liquid diet? Or are you not doing a pre-op diet? -
interesting. I find that it a little bit stuffs me and I stay with that full feeling a long time, it is not a slider food for me. but it will not be a regular snack either because of the stuffed feeling after just a little bit. Well, you are only a couple of months outside of surgery. Wet popcorn in your mouth and see how it dissolves. In the future you will be able to eat a good deal more than you can now and that's when it will be a problem.

Article about Biggest Loser Ali Vincent
Proud2BMe replied to sharkgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Saw it on FB and I commented that she needs weight loss surgery and not Weight Watchers. People came out of the woodwork to attack me with the standard misinformed and ignorant crap about the surgeries. I'm really despising Oprah and how she is fooling people for profit. She isn't in control of herself and needs the surgery too. -
Anything I should know?
Proud2BMe replied to Janiegirl1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No pain. Just felt like I was punched in the stomach, so very tolerable. The only true pain I felt was when they removed the drain, and that was a whopper! My whole abdomen cramped up something fierce but it only lasted for a few seconds. Absolutely no gas pains at all. I was so freaking worried about it as so many people seemed to imply it was a standard. -
Popcorn is a slider food so it should be avoided. It has no nutritional value and is just empty carbs. You need to be very careful with popcorn, chips, crackers, etc., as they produce almost no restriction, meaning you can end up eating a ton of it. Too many carbs will sabotage your weight loss. I speak from experience. To my horror I allowed myself to eat popcorn at the movies and even though I was just a few months out from surgery I was able to eat almost an entire large tub of popcorn.

The Great Arse Face Experiment (Or - Does Haemorrhoid Cream really help with your turkey neck?)
Proud2BMe replied to KindaFamiliar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't think the cream even works for what is meant for. My friend keeps telling me to use retin a on my neck but I keep telling him that it won't work. There are neck exercises you can try but honestly, once you stretch skin out the only way to fix it is through plastic surgery. -
Having some trouble...

I don't drink Isopure. I think it tastes nasty. I use Protein shakes to get my require protein in. I do 2 shakes a day, breakfast and lunch, and then eat a normal meal for dinner. Occasional snack every now and then but nothing habitual. As far as I'm concerned any liquid ingested counts toward your Water goal. If you eat Soups or broth you can also count that as well. -
The best thing for back pain is to walk and move around. I know it hurts but trust me, it's the only way. It's common to experience back pain when either losing weight or gaining weight. Your body is adjusting to the new changes.

Congrats! You have come a long way and should be proud of your accomplishment! My one year surgiversary is coming up on May 12. I won't be at goal but I have come so very far!

Depressed & Can't meet H20/Protein goals
Proud2BMe replied to fullyalive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't have to mix Protein shakes with milk. You can use Water. Remember any liquids you drink count as water intake. So just three Protein Shakes will give you a minimum of 24 oz right then and there. -
For women, one of the things they notice is to be able to cross their legs. I know this because even though I am a guy I used to always joke about as a man sitting European-style, which I can now do. When I was huge I tried and almost tore my leg out of my socket. I would love to be able to get back to how I was about age 17. I was so freaking flexible. I exceeded almost everyone in my gym classes They always did this test in gym where you sit one the ground with your feet flat against a wall. The goal is to reach forward and plant both palms on the wall. Most people can't do this. If you can do it you are exceptionally flexible. I was always the only one in my class who could do it. I'm going to keep working until I can do it agian. lol

Insurance will not cover
Proud2BMe replied to feelfatnomore's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Same here. Went to Tijuana. Had a great experience. No complications and practically no pain. Would do it again in a heart beat. -
It depends upon what stage you are in. At goal you can increase your carbs slowly to maintain your weight. During the active weight loss phase you should eat as little carbs as possible with the emphasis on Protein. For my pre-op diet I was allowed up to 25 grams of carbs a day but I likely didn't even come close to that as I was very careful not to eat carbs.

You will likely need time to get to know the real you. The weight before acted to repress you and so you may have never met the real you before. You will probably be a mixture of delighted and disgusted with the real you, so just keep that in mind.
-
To me it sounds like anxiety hunger. Like many of us, you probably turn to food for comfort and now you can't and so it's making it a bit worse. Just be strong. You will get through it.

How long did you sleep on your back?
Proud2BMe replied to SEVENTYSIXGIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sleep on my side. In the hospital I was forced to sleep on my back but as soon as I got home I returned to sleep on my side. No pain for me. -
Can we add a little fruit to our protein shakes?
Proud2BMe replied to ld33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can try bananas. Now, I wasn't allowed fruit once I got to normal food. It has too much sugar in it.
