  2. I'm guessing you are using milk to make your shakes. You might be lactose intolerant. Try making them with Water instead.

    National Donut Day

Are you sure he wasn't trying to sabotage you? Also, just because you didn't like it now doesn't mean you won't love it later on. So do be careful. I remember three months out of my surgery I swiped icing off of a piece of cake and ate it and then threw up. I too thought that I would never be able to eat sweets again but I can now eat a full slice of cake. Luckily I only eat such on holidays or birthdays.
  4. So I've always had a strained relationship with my father. All my life he's called me "fat a**" when angry with me. Even up to just prior to my surgery those words would come out of his mouth. Then even after I lost the weight he accidentally let it slip once and I just busted out laughing in his face because those words have no impact on me anymore. This said my Dad actually gave me a compliment. He saw me walk down a flight a stairs and he said for a split second he thought I had went back in time and became a teenager again. He said I look just like how he remembers me from when I was 15 or 16 and before I started packing on the pounds.

    Calories

Immediately after surgery you are going to struggle to even get 500 calories a day. You will then likely work up to about 800-900 a day. About a year out and I'm eating about 1200 a day. However, in all honesty you really don't need to count calories. Just stick to your diet of Protein first and then non-starchy vegetables, stopping eating when you feel restriction.

    Ketogenic Diet

I was told the active weight loss phase was the first 2 years after surgery and so it was stressed for me to make sure to lose as much weight as possible during this time period. The ketogenic diet is high in fat which is not approved for diets associated with bariatric surgery. My best advice would be to return to the diet plan given to you at your time of surgery, with little to no carbs and emphasis on lean Protein and non-starchy vegetables. If you consume too many carbs you will sabotage your weight loss.

    How many ounces?

When you first start out eating normal food it's going to be around 2-3 ounces. I used an empty plastic pudding container to portion my food. However, as time goes by you will be able to eat more. I'm one year out and can eat more than a cup of food.

    Snacks /deserts

No fruit for me, too much sugar. No deserts period, even "sugar free". I decided to break the mental enslavement to the idea that somehow it's normal to have deserts every day when in reality it's not normal at all. Instead, I have normal treats like cake, ice cream, Cookies, and candy only on special occasions such as holidays and birthdays. I was actually told to avoid snacking entirely during the active weight lost phase and then incorporate Snacks while in the maintenance phase.
  9. Technically, yes. In reality, no. You will be pressed hard to find a doctor willing to do a reversal without a very good excuse as to why you want it done. And on top of that your insurance may not pay for it, especially if it's not life-threatening.

Net carbs vs actual carbs ....

Total carbs for me. The net carbs do produce a slight blood sugar spike so they are not neutral as some people may think.

    Does anyone dance for exercise?

Dancing is good for aerobics. However, keep in mind that you can't depend on it for your only form of exercise.

    Food

Your only 2 days out and drinking Protein shakes? I had to do one week of Clear liquids. I didn't do Protein Shakes post--surgery until week two when I was to start on full liquids.

    Shakes

Nope. I could barely sip water just 2 days out. Let me guess, you didn't have to do a pre-op diet, did you?
  14. Learn to love yourself. If you don't then you won't be happy with your new body. I knew we all used to daydream about how perfect our lives would be if we only lost the weight but we know deep down inside that reality is far different. Love yourself every step of the way so that you can enjoy your new life.

Breaking a stall at 2 yrs out?

I was told the active weight loss phase is pretty much over with after 2 years and that I needed to be very dedicated to make sure I came as close as possible to reaching my goal during that time, with especial emphasis on the first year where you will quickly lose a large amount of weight. As a result of such I'm now only 14 lbs away from my goal and just a tad bit over a year out of surgery. Not speaking to you directly, but it saddens me to read other people who were not told similar information as I was and it seems they do not lose enough or do not get as near their goal as they should. I am especially concerned with people who post about eating large amounts of carbs and who claim they have the NUTs blessing. All I can say is that only the end results count. If these people think it's okay to do that and they can reach their goal, then power to them. If not then they will learn the hard way that they were wrong.
  16. I posted on this as well. Ideally the goal weight would put it between 18.5-24.9 BMI, the normal weight range, but most people here have their goal weight still above 25, in the overweight range. I just happened to stall right at hitting 25 BMI, which is annoying. I so can't wait to finally be in the normal weight BMI range.
  17. Talk to your doctor. It does look like an allergic reaction but it might be an infection.
  18. I've never heard of such. Unless you are already severely unhealthy then it should not be a problem where you would have to take disability. You can return to a desk job within a few days after surgery. A job that requires you to be on your feet all day is different.

    Natural Sweeteners

Good information. However, please keep in mind that most of the cancer causing claims of artificial sweeteners have been debunked. Turns out they have never been proven to cause cancer in humans. In fact, manufacturers are not even required to put a cancer causing warning on these products anymore. In a nutshell what was found was that in studies artificial sweeteners caused bladder and urinary cancer in mice. However, it was later revealed that mice have a completely different urinary system than humans and the reason why they developed cancer is because of their unique urinary system. No such cancers have been linked in humans. Also, keep in mind that "natural" does not equate to better or safer. Many naturally derived substances are poisonous or toxic. All this aside, stevia and monk fruit show great promise as use in sweeteners.

    Food mistake

Be careful of too many carbs. If you eat too many it will sabotage your weight loss. My doc did not allow any carbs from crackers or crisps at all. The only carbs I could eat are from non starchy vegetables. Rice carbs are particularly bad because they are empty calories with little to no nutritional value.
  23. Constipation is normal. I had to take laxatives for a couple of months before my body got back to normal. If you are like me then I suggest you take the as well. At first I waited until I naturally went but it was extremely painful and felt like my whole digestive tract was cramping up. I was on the pot doing business and vomiting at the same time. So you might try the laxatives to avoid the pain.

BMI calculator is a real *******

Yep. Well I just had to hit a stall right exactly on the 25 BMI. Just one or two more pounds of loss would put me in the normal BMI category of weight and now I'm pissed. LOL

    Need reassurance/advice

The slimes eventually go away. With me, I first got them every time I ate. Then it was only when I ate too much. Now slightly over one year after surgery I only get them once in a blue moon. If you are concerned, do what I did and carry a disposable cup with you in your car and around with you so you can spit in it and then throw it away.
