The "In case I get fat again" part of my closet...
Proud2BMe replied to AvaFern's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
OMG, I just packed up my fat clothes and put them in storage. I was going to donate them to Goodwill but thought "just in case" and put them in storage. I'm going to take them out and donate them this weekend! -
I had my surgery in Mexico. I was instructed to quit smoking before the surgery but I had already quit smoking 2 years ago. I did not disclose that I was a vaper. I brought my e-cigs and vaped right up to the morning of my surgery. I remember chain-vaping in the two hours before my ride to the clinic. Once there I underwent an x-ray and the lady showed me the damage to my lungs that 20+ years of smoking caused. I was shocked because I feel fine and breathe normally. After my surgery I didn't feel like vaping until I arrived home and even then I only took 3-4 puffs all day long. Fast forward to today and I'm vaping as normal. I think this whole bias against nicotine is absurd. It's smoking cigarettes which is harmful, not vaping.

I switched to Krill oil because my fish oil pills are massive. Too scared to even try to swallow them.

As others have said, there is no cream that can be effective in removing or preventing stretch marks. There is a laser treatment available I'm told. However, I haven't researched it.

Hair Loss Post-Op
Proud2BMe replied to Life is Good in WY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is one of those questions that keep getting asked over and over again simply because people are anxious about it. hair loss after weight loss is not due to Vitamin or Protein deficiency. Instead, it's caused by hormonal changes brought on by the stress of losing weight. There's nothing you can do to stop it. The good news is that it's temporary. As your body adjusts to the weight loss and your weight stabilizes your hair shedding will stop. Eventually it will grow back. Cut your hair short so your hair loss won't be as noticeable and so you wont get freaked out in the shower with all this hair in your hands after shampooing. -
So lately I've been stopping at a gas station before going to work. I hadn't been to this one in months. There was a gal who worked there who used to give me a hard time. We weren't friends or anything and I don't even know her name. It just happened to be her last day as well. So I walk in and when I get up to the counter to pay she says, "You just keep wasting away.". I was like, huh? And then she says, "You keep getting smaller and smaller every time I see you." I chuckled and told her that I had weight loss surgery. She was surprised. That comment made my day. So, what was your first non-family/friend compliment that really made you happy you had the surgery?

It's broken down and travels in the blood stream to the cells that need the fuel.

The struggle is real cutting carbohydrates from my diet!
Proud2BMe replied to Nikkip35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing about carbs and even sugar is that if you stop eating them you stop craving them. I no longer eat bread, pizza or starchy vegetables and I'm doing just fine. No cravings for carbs at all. -
How do you "remind" yourself to eat?
Proud2BMe replied to J170's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless you are diabetic or hypoglycemic you should be fine. Most of us forget that we have enough fuel on us to last us months. For me, when I forgot to eat I was reminded by feelings of faint and dizziness. -
Primary physician not thrilled
Proud2BMe replied to Gina.marie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Mexico and had a wonderful experience. My surgery was relatively painless and I had zero complications. If you go to Mexico just make sure you do your research before picking a surgeon. Get a doctor here who agrees to see you for your post-op stuff before you go. Good Luck! -
Frustrated and depressed
Proud2BMe replied to dem16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you do the 2 week pre-op liquid diet? Because the people that have lost the most are the people that did this diet. I consistently see patients whose doctor didn't require it complain about not losing enough weight or that the weight loss is slow. I lost 25lbs on my pre-op diet and I've talked to people that have lost 30+ lbs on theirs. So it does help. Keep a close eye on your carbs. If you eat too many you will not lose weight. -
Go back on the pre-op liquid diet for a couple of weeks until you begin losing again. Once your weight loss resumes then keep a very close eye on your carbs.

I had a prior history of gall stones so I had my gall bladder removed at the same time as the sleeve. I would recommend others do that as well. You really don't need your gall bladder.

Much of the info we receive is well meant but wrong. Straws are perfectly fine and it's up to you if you want to use them. I was also told never to drink carbonated beverages again because it will stretch my stomach and cause me gas and pain. I learned just from trying it that it's not the case at all. The only drawback is that I burp more when drinking them. So the rule of thumb is to try to experiment and see if it's okay for you or not.

Hair loss question
Proud2BMe replied to emilyphoenix74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any hair loss from weight loss surgery is temporary. It will eventually grow back. There's really nothing you can do to stop it. Despite what people think, hair loss from weight loss surgery is not from not getting enough Protein. It's actually related to hormonal changes the body goes through when there is a massive or sudden loss of weight. -
I didn't notice any swelling. I also didn't have gas pains either. To me it only felt like someone had punched me in the stomach, so very tolerable. However, each person is different. For me, the worst pain was when they removed the drain. My entire abdomen cramped up something fierce.

How do you get your veggies and still get your protein
Proud2BMe replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
V8 is a wonderful suggestion. I love baby carrots, baby corn, snow peas and cherry/grape tomatoes. I often will buy a small veggie tray and snack on it throughout the week. If you are drinking Protein shakes you don't need to worry much about protein. A couple of the shakes I drink give me like 60 grams of protein. So when I eat I can eat veggies if I choose. However, I avoid fruit as it's too sweet for me. -
Weight Gain 2 Years Post-op
Proud2BMe replied to Idairene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say just the opposite. Limiting your calories will slow your metabolism. You need to become more active and exercise and move more. Our bodies adapt to our situation. For the 15lbs gain, I would go back to the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and see if I could drop that quickly and then work on maintaining the weight loss. -
Not Happening After all …
Proud2BMe replied to ellie123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay positive. Use this time to lose more weight. If you stay on your pre-op diet for the next 6 weeks you might just surprise yourself by how much weight you lose. -
I was Sexually Assaulted at the Obesity Good Bye Clinic
Proud2BMe replied to a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I don't know how I liked this or how I can take my like back but I truly didn't mean to like what you said and actually am very disgusted at what you said and will pray for you and I hope one day nothing happens to you or any of your kin and someone questions your authenticity , you are the reason many people that are sexually abused refrain from telling others, humble yourself There's nothing wrong with what I wrote. This thread is full of shrill harpies just waiting to attack anyone over the slightest of perceived offenses. A normal, sane person would know that my comment was showing compassion while at the same time saying I don't know what happened. Because the truth is that none of us knows what happened. I hope this woman is able to get the law involved. Otherwise, you and others here need to think twice before you start attacking people. clearly you are delusional, I pray for you last night and will do so again tonight I'm not keen on individuals thinking they need to pray for me over a normal reply that any sane person would make. The number of drama queens in this thread is growing by the minute. -

Stomach stretching
Proud2BMe replied to Gabi Calin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The belief that the stomach stretches after surgery is a myth. The reality is that with time your body adapts to the surgery by keeping food in the stomach for less and less time. I was watching a video a doctor made where he said that by year five most patients can eat a normal size plate of food. -
Try logging your carbs. You may be surprised by how much you are truly eating. The pre-op diet is not designed for long-term use. It's just to jump start the weight loss process and shrink the liver. Since your didn't do a pre-op diet you missed out on this. Also, note that your exercise and activity level also plays a part. (Note: My doctor said no more than 50 grams of carbs on the pre-op diet.)
-
Try speaking with your doctor. Most likely you are consuming too many carbs. Did you go on the pre-op diet and if so, for how long? From what I can tell the patients who lost the most weight went on a 2 week pre-op diet before surgery. I lost 25 lbs just on my pre-op diet alone. Now, when I hit a weight loss stall I immediately go back on the pre-op liquid diet until the pounds start dropping again.

Did you do a pre-op diet? It seems the patients who have lost the most weight are the one who did a 2 week pre-op diet. How many carbs are you eating in a day? Eating too many carbs will prevent you from losing weight.
