    SLIMES - WHAT TO DO

I had horrible slimes as soon as I got home from surgery and for months afterwards. I had to carry a cup with me everywhere I went, especially if I was going to eat. Yes, you have to spit it out. If you swallow it then it only causes pain and makes it worse. The good news is that with time it will go away. I've been slime-free for about 2 months now.
  2. I didn't make a big deal out of it. My sister thought I was going to die though. However, I did dread the supposed pain of the gas that everyone keeps talking about. In reality I had zero gas pain. It only felt like I got punched in the stomach. Very minor. It was a breeze.

Am I going to be starving?

It's going to be 6-12 months before your hunger will return. Try now to learn the difference between head hunger and actual hunger. The key to know the difference is that with head hunger you have to have a specific food. With actual hunger any food will satisfy it. So once you know the difference then you can easily fight head hunger and when you are actually hungry then just eat something healthy.

    Reflux and gastric sleeve

As others have pointed out, you may have a hernia. Also, just being obese can cause it. However, don't feel surprised if you have to take something like omeprazole for life.
  5. Yes. I hate it. I hate the feeling of struggling to regain consciousness. However, the good news is that it's only temporary. You will be fine. Believe it or not, for most patients gastric sleeve surgery is a breeze. It's plastics to remove excess skin that is the major, and most painful surgery to really worry about.

    A few pre-op questions

    1. Go on YouTube. There are multiple videos of people explaining their surgery experience. 2. There's nothing you can do to prevent hair shedding. When your weight becomes stable your hair will begin to grow back. For most people hair shedding is not drastic and many people don't even notice it. 3. There's nothing you can do to prevent excess skin. If you have large amounts then plastic surgery will be your next avenue to explore. 4. Can't help you there as I'm a guy.
  7. I had mine in Tijuana. My sleeve was $4,500 and then $800 to have my gallbladder removed at the same time. Other than that I paid $1400 for 2 first class round trip flights and then brought about $1,000 in spending money just in case.
  8. I have gone back to the pre-op diet in order to break a stall. You can google, "5 day pouch reset" for more info. In a nutshell it's just going back to pre-op diet for 5 days.

    Pouch test

Yes, you can try. Or just go back on your pre-op diet. I recently broke a long stall by going back to pre-op. Lost 6 lbs in 3 days on it so far. So yeah, it might be what you need to break through it.
  10. Technically, no it can't go back to being what it was before as 80% of it has been removed and the stomach does not regenerate. However, what can happen is that with time and poor diet you can create a new sense of what "full" is by overeating. You can reverse this by going on a 5 day pouch reset or by doing your pre-op diet again.

    Subway Salads

So before my surgery I loved eating Subway. So now that I'm post surgery I of course can't have the sandwiches because of the carbs. However, I've found a substitution, Subway salads. They are awesome! I tend to get a veggie one and add pepper jack cheese and possibly a meat, usually either ham, turkey or bacon. For dressing, I love their chipotle. It takes me 2-3 days to eat the whole thing but it's good. If you are going to get one I would recommend you skip the tomatoes as they tend to leak their Water content which ruins the salad. Don't get salt and pepper on it either as the salt draws out the water as well.

    I HAVE DECIDED!

You have nothing to fear from the surgery. It's a breeze. It's the plastics that will be a major surgery that will take some time to recover from. Most people can go back to work in just days after gastric sleeve surgery. My surgery was almost painless. It just felt like someone punched me in the stomach.

    Sleeve to RNY?

Sounds like a stricture but you said they didn't find anything. I would get a second opinion just to be sure.

    Lap band vs Sleeve? HELP!

Talk to your doctor. Most doctors are moving away from the band as it has too many complications and requires additional maintenance. I agree with the other person who said it looks like you are seeking permission. It doesn't matter what anyone says or thinks. All that matters is your choice. You have to do what you feel is right for you.
  15. Any updates? I had the sleeve and in 7 months I've lost 142 lbs. So I would like to compare that to your bypass. I've head that you lose more with bypass. Congrats!
  16. @ProudGranny I haven't quite got to 170 lbs loss yet. So far I've lost 142 lbs. I will eventually though! Yeah it would be interesting to study the different attitudes toward weight loss surgery among the sexes. I know for myself I've never viewed weight loss surgery as shameful or something to hide. I think what is shameful is the lengths we all went with regard to binging and hiding our eating disorders from people. Eating a whole box of twinkies or an entire birthday cake is shameful. Taking steps to become healthy is not shameful in my book. And I don't want to send the wrong message to other obese people who are struggling. But to each their own.

    post-op poops!

You might try magnesium supplements. However, if I don't do laxatives once a week then I can go weeks without a BM. And when I do finally have one my entire digestives feels like it's cramping. I then usually have to throw up at the same time I'm on the pot. But laxatives once a week makes it so that it doesn't hurt like that.

    Bummed out

What kind of juice are you drinking? If it's fruit juice then you are sabotaging your weight loss because fruit juice is mostly sugar. Did you do a 2 week pre-op diet? Most people who do a 2 week pre-op diet tend to lose more weight than those who do not. Get a notebook and log every single thing you eat. You really need to pay close attention to your carbs as they can really sneak up on you.
  19. You can probably go but you will have to explain why you aren't eating or drinking anything and why you act lethargic. I really don't understand the female mind frame of always trying to keep weight loss surgery a secret. Men usually don't have this problem.

    Slipped

Go back to the pre-op diet for a while. Also, increase your exercise. Make sure to cut out the carbs because they will sabotage your weight loss.
  21. Go ahead and prepare yourself mentally that you are going to have loose skin. It's just a side effect of losing weight and there's nothing that can be done to prevent it. The answer is plastic surgery after you have reached your goal weight.
  22. Not quite sure what you mean? Do your best to avoid temptation entirely. You got guts to do it so close to the holidays when temptation is it's strongest.
  23. To each their own, but losing weight slowly does not prevent saggy skin. You can blow up a balloon to max and slowly let out the air and it will never go back to being in the same state as it was prior to being blown up. My personal opinion is that as long as you get below 25 BMI then you are fine. If your goal weight puts you over 25 BMI then you are still considered overweight.
