There is nothing you can do to prevent loose skin. When you inflate a balloon and then let the air out the balloon can never go back to it's original pristine shape again. The same with skin. The amount of loose skin you will have will depend on many factors such as how obese you were and your genetics. One can always have plastic surgery to remove excess skin if it is a concern.

No hunger or cravins...nothing sounds good to me
Proud2BMe replied to Tappy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. Enjoy it while you can. Don't be like some people here and think this is bad. Focus on losing as much weight as possible because your honeymoon phase will not last forever. Your hunger will return in a few months, maybe 4 or 5, possibly longer. -
3 months after surgery. The first drink burned like hell but every drink after that was fine. However, alcohol effects you differently after surgery. Some lose tolerance. Some gain it. For me, I gained too much tolerance. Before surgery just one drink would cause me to flush and be hot and buzzed. Now I can drink multiple drinks and not feel a thing.

Who Started This "Bone Broth" Nonsense?
Proud2BMe posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's called stock. Stock is made when you boil bones. broth is made when you boil meat or veggies. -
This is funny to me. As sleevers, one of the benefits of being sleeved is that we can go to Sams Club and have our meal consist of just the samples they give out on Saturdays. I just did this this weekend! So, want a free meal on Saturdays? Head over to Sams Club!

Fitting in a plane seat
Proud2BMe replied to futurecrna08's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Yes, no need to pay for a seat belt extender. If you fly first class you will be more comfortable. You are only requested to purchase an extra seat if you need more than one seat belt extender or if your body spills over into the space of the person next to you. If you don't want to purchase a second flight in those instances they may ask that you take a later flight that has more room. -
No food dreams for me. But when I quit smoking almost 3 years ago I started having smoking dreams and still occasionally have them. It's a guilt thing because when I wake up I always feel guilty and "so stupid" for giving in and smoking a cigarette and then it dawns on me that it was just a dream.

19 days post op , frustrated
Proud2BMe replied to scottyg143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your doctor. By Day 19 you should have long been over any pain from the surgery. Don't put it off because it might be a leak, especially if you are running a fever. -

Yes. You should steadily improve from here on out. If you have concerns then speak with your doctor. -
Drinking with meals?
Proud2BMe replied to Adina's_Journey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not sure why this is difficult for you. It's relatively easy to go without drinking for 30 minutes. As far as meals go, if you don't prepare yourself a drink then you won't be tempted to drink it while you eat your meal. When dining out, order just a Water and then don't drink it. Or order nothing. Or order water and then pour salt into it to make it unappealing. -
Call your doctor. It might be a blood clot or an infection from the IV.

Ending a stall - Blood Letting ?
Proud2BMe replied to MIMISAN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds as much legit as sacrificing a virgin by throwing her into a volcano. With stalls you just got to make sure you are absolutely doing the diet correctly and are getting in exercise. If you are eating too many carbs then cut them out. If you are doing everything as you should then remain calm and patient and eventually your stall will break. -
All it means is to go back on your pre-op diet, which for most patients was a liquid diet. My pre-op diet was as follows: Week 1: All the Water, tea and sugar free drinks you like All the broth you like All the sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles you like 2 Protein shakes (Breakfast and lunch) dinner is lean non-breaded meat on a bed of greens Week 2: The same as week one but Dinner is replaced with another Protein shake.

How much are you trying to drink at a time? You should be taking small sips all day long. Not just here and there but literally every couple of minutes. Carry a Water bottle with you everywhere you go. You will eventually be hospitalized if you don't drink enough liquid. So do try to sip all day long. Were you prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs?

Any problems with Salad?
Proud2BMe replied to ididit34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 months out and I eat it all the time. I really love Subway's salads with the chipotle dressing. It could just be too soon for you. -
Pissed off! Need to vent
Proud2BMe replied to A New KK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go on a modified pre-op diet of drinking Protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and a normal small meal of lean meat and non-starchy vegetables. You should notice you will drop weight quickly. -
Am I loosing weight too fast?
Proud2BMe replied to stepbill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No such thing as losing weight too fast when you are obese. Also, please realize that you are in the honeymoon phase. It will not last forever and you will soon begin to hit stalls and then your weight loss will eventually stop altogether. So for the first 2 years, especially the first year, you should focus on losing as much weight as possible. If you get below weight you can then increase your calories but cross that bridge when it's needed. -
You are correct. We are far more likely to gain fat by eating carbs than by fats or Protein. It's because insulin works by removing excess blood sugar when our levels spike, such as after eating carbs. Insulin takes the sugars and deposits them in fat cells.

Nope. No bread as it's too many carbs. But lettuce wraps, yes.

My goal is 200lbs weight loss. I refuse bypass. Has anyone lost beyound the 60% doctora expect with sleeve?
Proud2BMe replied to Munecagirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. I have exceeded it by 32 lbs so far and am still losing. I'm riding it all the way. The best advice I can give you is give it your all during the first 2 years, especially the first year and try to lose as much weight as possible during that time. I see posts by some people here about how they think they are losing too fast during their first year and then they try to actually slow their weight loss down. Those comments freak me out because these people have no clue about the honeymoon phase and how that weight loss will eventually stop altogether. -
The official BMI for underweight is under 18.4 and your BMI is 18.2 so you are technically underweight but by only a smidgeon. You can easily correct that by adding stuff like nuts to your diet.

It was a mixture of drinks, mostly shots, a jager bomb, a red headed slut, and crown and diet coke. At most it was probably 800-1000 calories as they are about 90-100 calories a drink. Look, it was my choice. I chose to have fun that night and I had a blast. However, it did not get me drunk but it did to my friends. I did not gain anything. In fact, I lost 4 lbs this past weekend, bringing me down to the weight I was in High School and officially making me only overweight and not in the obese category any longer. If you are going to bitch about me over something then chose the holidays. I gained 3 lbs over xmas but I turned around and lost that in about 4 days. It's okay to live a little!
-
My experiences are completely opposite. Before surgery, on drink would have got me buzzed with red cheeks. After surgery I can drink like a horse and practically nothing. Not even red cheeks. This weekend I went out and had 8-10 drinks and was not drunk. My friend who went with me and who had the same number of drinks but does not have the sleeve was wasted and was falling and puking everywhere.

2 day liquid diet before surgery?!
Proud2BMe replied to Laura Lopez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 day pre-op diet means that he wants you to burn your stored sugar levels in your liver to shrink it somewhat. When you diet or fast your body burns the stored sugar in your liver called glycogyn first. Most people have a 2-3 day supply of this sugar that has to be used up first before they begin to burn fat. However, and I'm saying this from observation, those patients who go on at least a 2 week pre-op diet appear to be more successful and lose more weight than those who do not. When you go on a 2 week pre-op diet you lose a lot of weight before your surgery and you are also over your carb withdrawals.
